Moonville Series 1: Secret Lovers

Chapter 30

Bryan felt more nervous as he saw his parents' reaction at his revelation. Raul is the one who looked more shocked, as Helen also looked at her husband to see his reaction.

"Dad, I'm sorry. I know you warned me about them. But, it just happened."

"Why?" was what Raul managed to say.

"What 'why'?"

"Why Angel Martinez? Why not just another girl?"

"I just can't choose whom to love." Bryan looked away. Here comes the hard part, where he needs to lie to his parents.

"Do you talk to her? I told you to stay away from her, from their family."

Raul is strangely calm. He's not angry, though he's obviously not glad and smiling. His face is just seriously looking at Bryan, and it puzzles him.

'I can't," he told Raul. "She's my classmate. During first year, most of our classes are the same. Then, now that we're in third year, she is my classmate in all my subjects. And you know the rules in CPRU. You don't get to choose your schedule. They are the ones who decide what class you will attend based on the subjects you enrolled. But we're always together. I think that's definitely fate."

'Only a few gets in the BS Accountancy program of CPRU, so it's not impossible that you're classmates in all your subjects," Raul said.

'But Dad, even my close friends have classes that are different than mine. But Angel is different. I just... I cannot ignore the fact that maybe fate is trying to pull us closer to each other."

"I didn't know you were that romantic," Helen commented. 'Raul, maybe Bryan just can't avoid falling in love with Angel, so he pursued her."

"Exactly, Mom!" Bryan was glad his mother supported him.

Helen suddenly became excited. "Is she someone who makes your world stop? Or just slow down? Like what you see in the movies. When you see her, it's like there's just you and her and everyone else just disappears."

Bryan winced. His mother's incurable romantic persona stroke again. But right now, he needs to ride onto it to make his father believe him.

'You did not avoid her?" Raul is seriously looking at him.

Bryan felt even more nervous. Her father doesn't seem to believe him right away. Well, he's not an accountant if he does. It seems like Raul is using his thorough examination that has been honed in his long years as external auditor in a large auditing firm in Manila. Bryan realized he needs to do or say more to prove that he's really in love with Angel.

That made him even more worried. What will he say to his father? He thought of Angel and searched for anything he could say to his father that will prove his supposed love for her.

"I just can't help myself but be drawn to her," Bryan started. Then suddenly, words continuously came out of his mouth. "It's like, every time I see her, I could not help but notice her. She's not the friendliest in class. I actually don't consider her friendly. But I think that's one of the reasons why I became interested in her. She's just so mysterious. And each day that I'm with her, I discover a lot of new things that makes me like her more. I just can't help but fall for her." "Oh my..." Helen looks like she's watching a romantic movie.

"It's actually... weird... When I'm with her, my mind is fixated on her that I cannot do anything anymore. By just looking at her, it's like I lose focus. She makes me come undone. Always."

"Oh my!" Helen exclaimed. "Raul..." She looked at her husband.

Raul sighed. "Well, we can't do anything about it anymore. It has already happened."

"I'm sorry, Dad. I know you hate their family."

"I don't actually hate them," Raul said. "If there's someone who's mad, I think it would be Benjie. You already met him?"

"No, I didn't," Bryan said. "But he already knows and he's not happy with what he found out."

"Just as I've expected."

"Dad, what really happened between you and Angel's father?"

"Well, I guess you really have to know everything now," Raul said. "Benjie and I used to be friends. Best friends, actually. Together, we conceptualized this accounting firm we wanted to establish here in Tarlac. But then, we took the review and eventually, the board exam in Manila. We were hired in an auditing firm, and then I met your mom. I fell in love with her, and I didn't want to leave her. That's when everything started falling apart between me and Benjie. He was mad, and I understand him. I admit I left him hanging."

'But Dad, I don't think that's enough to cause this 20-year grudge between you."

'Because of his anger, I told him a lot of hurtful things. Of course I was also mad, so I countered all his accusations against me. He resigned from his job, then he went back here in Tarlac. We haven't talked again after that. I was hurt, and I feel like I'm not the only one who should apologize. He also needs to humble himself and ask pardon for everything he told me."

"When pride and ego collide," Helen commented.

'Bryan, my son, for you I am willing to settle things between Benjie. If I need to be the first to reach out to him, I'll do it. Just to show you that I and your mother supports you. I know what you feel right now for Angel is hard to suppress. I know because that's also what I felt for your mother. And that love I felt was the reason why you and Angel are going through difficulty right now."

Bryan felt relived. It seems like his plan was a success.

"Actually, Dad, I have a plan."

'Alright. Tell me what it is," Raul said. He looks determined in helping is son.

'Because of my love for Angel, I decided to join Mr. Business School."

"What?" Raul frowned.

'Really?" Helen asked. He suddenly looks very excited again.

"Yeah..." Bryan scratched his nape because of embarrassment. "I'll tell you all about it next time. But for now, I have to ask you a favor. Especially you, Dad."

"I just want Angel's parents to know that you support me and our relationship. That's why I thought of including you in my talent presentation. Please, Dad. Perform with me." "Hon," Helen said to her husband. "Please help your son."

"But, what will we do? You won't make me eat fire, will you?"

That made Bryan laugh. "No Dad. You just need to play your guitar."

"That would be easy," Helen said as she hugged Raul. "Come on, Hon. Help Bryan."

'You suddenly became sweeter, huh?" Raul said to his wife. 'Fine! I will perform with you to prove that I am okay with your relationship with Angel."

"Thanks Dad! You're the best!" Bryan went to his father and hugged him.

"Where's my hug?" Helen asked.

Bryan also embraced his mother, who returned the gesture more tightly his bones almost broke.

"Mom!" He struggled to get out of Helen's embrace.

"Sorry. I just really miss you," Helen said to him. "Sleep with us tonight, will you?"

"No!" Bryan was able to go away from her. "I'll go now. I'll tell you the details about our number, Dad. I need to think first what we will play. For now, go take a rest. Good night and sweet dreams!" And before Helen can do more, Bryan immediately went out of the master's bedroom.
