Chapter 41

Along the way, countless images flashed through Kamryn’s mind.

She couldn’t stop her thoughts from wandering. As she hurried along, a man’s voice suddenly sounded behind her.

“Stop right there!”

Kamryn stopped in her tracks.

She turned expressionlessly and saw that, at some point, Bruno rushed out of the crowd and ran after her, followed by Jenna.

The father and daughter faced each other for a good while without speaking. Finally, Bruno broke the silence.

“Why do you keep a straight face and say nothing? Why did you run away as soon as you saw me?”

“I don’t think you like me there, do you? What’s the matter?”

Bruno asked suspiciously, “This is where Jenna is shooting a TV series. Why are you here?”

He pressed Kamryn before she could speak. “You’re out of money, right? Or do you have a hard time? If you need anything, just let me know and leave Jenna alone!”

The way Bruno defended Jenna made Kamryn even more disappointed.

“Forget it. I don’t have any illusions about going home,” Kamryn thought.

Jenna “kindly” explained, “Dad, you misunderstood Kamryn! She didn’t bother me. She just happens to be an assistant here. I saw her in an interview, and I thought I’d better make her my assistant so I could take care of her, so I have her work for me. Don’t think too much about it!”

Jenna acted like a good person in front of Bruno. She smiled at Kamryn and said, “Kamryn, don’t take it to heart! That’s what dad is like. His bark is worse than his bite!”

“Jenna, you’re just too kind. We have nothing to say to someone like her! Hasn’t she shamed our family enough? Why don’t you keep a distance from her?”

“Dad.”

Kamryn interrupted Bruno calmly and said with a smile, “I didn’t come here to see you guys act. What the hell are you trying to do? First of all, I’m just working here. I’ve never asked you for food and clothing. All the money I earned, I worked hard for it. Secondly, I’ll be glad if you don’t bother me. I’ll never bother you. Thirdly, I was never the one who disgraced our family. You see the daughter of your mistress the apple of your eye but kicked the daughter of your wife out of the house. How can you be afraid of being humiliated after you did something like that?”

“Bastard!”

Bruno was furious. “How could I have a daughter like you?”

“You’ll have to ask yourself about that. You’re my father after all! You should be thankful that I don’t hate you for being my father!”

Kamryn’s retort made Bruno’s lips quiver with anger.

“Good! You’ve grown up, haven’t you?!”

Bruno couldn’t wait to run at Kamryn and slap her. “After all these years living alone, I thought you’d become a better person! But I didn’t expect you to be sharp–tongued instead of learning something! A filthy mouth cannot utter decent language.”

“Like father, like daughter. Are you cursing yourself?”

“Shut up!”

Bruno almost lost control of himself. “I don’t have a daughter like you. Don’t call me dad!”

With a red face, Kamryn blurted out, “I wish I didn’t have you as a father!”

Bruno stood looking at Kamryn with his mouth agape.

“Isn’t there a saying that a stepmother makes a good father bad?”

Kamryn suddenly sneered. “I didn’t believe it before, but now I have to! You don’t see me as your daughter anyway, so please don’t bother me again! I’ll thank you to mind your own business!”

“Jenna, why are you still helping her?”

Bruno had a pained expression on his face. “Look at her. Is she grateful to you? You think she’s gonna thank you for doing this for her? No, she’ll just see you as a bad person! Save your breath! Take a detour when you see this ungrateful person the next time! She hates you instead of thanking you!”

“Dad…”

Jenna said sadly, “A harmonious family thrives. Without Kamryn, there’s always one less person in the house. Dad, I want you to put the past behind you and let Kamryn go home!”

Bruno was so angry that he laughed. “Are you trying to get this jinx home to piss me off?”

Actually, she left the set early, but because of something on her mind, she took a taxi to the beach to relax.

However, her mood was much better when she saw Eugene.
