Chapter Chapter Twelve
[Jace’s POV]
I could hear Jax start to growl and knew Lysander had given him back control. Guren and I were huddled around our little Mate trying to keep him calm. No one was going to even see Rain, I had him covered with my own larger body. I was told to protect him and that was exactly what I was going to do.
No one was getting to Rain/Orion until Lysander/Jax came back to let us know what was going on. I was a fucking Alpha too and right now my Mate was being threatened and there was no way I was going to let him be harmed in any way. They would be bloody or dead, depending on how they came at me. It could even be a bloody ass death if they pushed too far. I was game for either. I was far more violent than anyone ever gave me credit for because Jax usually took point.
My Omega was scared out of his wits and I could feel his shaking, turn into tremors as the voices got louder. I could hear pop yelling at Jax to calm down and back off, Jax growling as the female kept screaming for Kin. Amidst this entire fiasco Cassie came running into the kitchen, a very serious look on her face. She was scare too and it was more of a fear for Orion than of that screaming banshee in my home.
“Where is he?” she demanded getting us to growl at her. She cocked her hip to the side and rolled her eyes, not backing down “Get over yourself Alpha boy. I need to know he is safe; his mother is here looking for Kin. I don’t want that bitch to even know he is here.” she said her voice soft, as her eyes searched for her little pup. She only wanted him safe and I could appreciate that but its my job not hers.
While we understand their relationship a little better, we were still not going to let Rain be seen. ‘He’s safe. Has she even asked about Orion?’ I asked curiously. If she was any kind of mother, she would have noticed her youngest son had been gone. Or that he needed serious medical attention for his hind leg. Not Cilla Jones, she cared only for Kinder.
“Not that I heard. I didn’t stick around long. She appeared and I ran here looking for my pup.” Cassie said her voice very serious. “She will only look for Orion when she wants to punish him for something. There will be a target on my pup soon, she is pissed.” Cassie added still searching for him.
‘He is shaken up right now, so the best thing is for me and Jax to stay close to him.’ I said hearing Rain whimper as he buried himself further into me. My poor Mate was so terrified of his own shadow that he could barely function. Our Bond had barely had time to really form but I could feel Orion’s chaotic thoughts and the fear that drove them.
I wanted my twin to hurry up and get that beast out of the house. Rain needed to eat and get some rest. They both did. ‘Jax, what’s going on?’ I called out, hoping not to piss him off. I needed him to work with me not against me and I knew how he could get while he was this pissed.
‘This bitch is about to be mulch. All she cares about is getting Kinder back.’ Jax replied grimly. ‘She keeps sniffing around like a bloodhound and it’s pissing me off.’ He growled. He did not like Cilla trying to sniff out Kinder because he knew she was looking for other scents as well. Jax was no fool.
‘Just get her out of here. Our little Mate is going to shake right out of his fur if you don’t. She terrifies him, she hurt them for a long time and I don’t want her even this close to him.’ I said seriously, getting a nod of agreement from Guren. Jax growled loudly again silencing everyone around him for a moment.
‘I’m trying but as you can fucking see, pop is trying to get information from her.’ Jax growled, he did not want any of this. He wanted to get his enemy away from his Mates quickly. He wanted her dead to be really truthful but out of his house would be nice for now.
I sighed, there was no getting around this. I was going to have to go out there. ‘Rain, can you climb onto my back and hide there? I need to help Jax and Lysander.’ I thought hoping he would be willing to stay close even in the face of his abuser. I needed to make sure he was safe and while Cassie was a Beta in training she could not protect Orion and Rain, yet.
‘I try … For you …’ Came the soft reply as he wiggled under me. I shifted so he could crawl out from under me and climb onto my back to hide in my fur. He was small enough to completely blend in with my much longer fur.
‘That’s my good angel boy. Don’t worry OK. We got you now.’ I said happy he was trying to work with us a little. We were working together to show him that he was worthy of being loved and protected. And he was trusting us to do it.
Our bond was growing that much stronger with every little thing he gave to me and Jax. He was being so brave as he situated himself in my fur. He knew Cassie was there having licked her hand briefly before climbing up. I knew she was handling all of this pretty hard but she knew that Orion/Rain needed to get closer to us. We were his Mates and he needed to depend on us for when she found her own Mate. Orion and Rain could not fully depend on Cassie anymore and I saw the hurt in her eyes.
Cassie looked at me with knowing eyes, ‘Don’t worry about me, Alpha. I will be fine as long as he is happy and well taken care of.’ Cassie thought as she moved to help me get out of the room without jostling Rain too much. I didn’t want to hurt him anymore than he already was. His injured leg now always on my mind when around him.
Jax and I were going to get his leg looked at as soon as all of this was over with. I went out of the kitchen with Cassie in front of me. I huffed getting Jax’s attention. When he saw me, he rushed to my side to stand next to me, making sure no one could see Rain hidden in my fur. Always the lead Alpha, the strongest of us. The best of us because Jax just born that way.
Jax and I stood together our Alpha power shining around us as we looked at those before us. Cassie was already on her knees at our feet, pledging her life to us for the sake of Orion. She would be a good ally. A strong Lead Beta for us.
‘This has gone on for long enough!’ I said my Alpha Timbre rumbling in my voice and chest, Guren sitting in the forefront of my mind ready for anything that came at us. ‘Kinder has been dealt with as a Rouge. He was tested and found to have the filth of madness growing in his blood. According to the Laws of our kind he was dealt with accordingly.’ I decreed getting a wailing cry from the woman that was supposed to be a caring mother for all her pups. Her only concern was for the child that had slowly became a Rouge.
She looked like a harpy, the way she crumpled to the floor in grief. “That is not possible, my baby was a good boy!! It was that Omegas fault!!! I will find him and teach him to stay away from my children!!” she screamed jumping to her feet determined to find Orion and hurt him again. Her eyes were mad as they looked sharply around her, as if she already knew Orion was here.
Her words had our father springing into action, a growl tearing through his throat, “You will do no such thing!! The Darkness comes from one’s own faults no one else can influence the onset of a Rouges darkness!! You know this better than anyone Cilla!!” pop yelled at her, getting her to drop to the floor again. His Alpha aura overpowering her senses.
“He killed my baby girl and now he’s killed my prized boy, he was a curse from the day he was born. I should have never let him live!!!” Cilla shouted angrily as she attempted to come at me. Apparently, she knew Orion/Rain was hidden in my fur and she was determined to get to him. Fighting through her Alpha’s command was more than difficult it was treason.
I jumped back as Jax moved in front of me slamming into the crazy she-Wolf, pinning her to the floor. Jax was growling in her face his teeth bared and saliva dripping in her face. ’You will NOT touch our MATE!!!′ Jax and I growled at her our Alpha Timbre seething in our minds. Anger and hatred filling our words as we growled at her.
Cilla looked at us in shock as she tried to get out from under Jax. “He is a worthless little thing; he can do nothing and will never be good enough for anything. He is a disgrace to his bloodline and you should reject him. It would be the best for everyone.” Cilla seethed despite seeing the open maw of kanines in her face. She was not afraid to die and that only meant she believed her words to be true. She was turning like Kinder had been. It was like an infection in their blood.
I don’t think she was in her right mind at this point. I looked up to see Orion’s father just standing there by my dad speaking softly to him. I wanted to know what was being said but I knew that pop would tell us soon enough. I focused on keeping Rain safe for now. I could still feel him shaking on my back but he was doing so fucking well right now. He probably would have tried to run if I had not asked him to stay put no matter what happened. To trust that we would keep him safe.
He had seen Cilla coming for him and hadn’t moved a single inch. He had trusted his Mates to keep him safe. I was hoping Orion would get there soon as well. I knew it was still Rain in control because their eyes were a different color. Orion’s eyes were a splendid deep blue that I could lose myself in while Rain’s eyes were just as mesmerizing as the emerald green depths held me captive with every look from him. He was a very enchanting creature and I wanted to learn everything about him.
I was going to make sure Jax knew the difference between Rain and Orion but right now we needed to make sure he was safe. When the threat was over, we could all sit and have time where no one else mattered.
Pop was the one to speak next, his voice saying the final words. “Cilla Jones, you are to be put into the dungeons until further inspection of your own blood. Orion will be living here now as he will be the next Lunos of this Pack.” pop said getting Jax to step back to stand next to me. He nuzzled my neck affectionately as he wanted to reach for Rain, but wanted to make sure Cilla didn’t make another move for him. He was making a show of claiming us both his in front of the she-wolf.
“You cannot strip me of my rank!! I'm a Beta of this Pack and have served next to you, Grant, for years!! We are friends and have been such since high school!!” Cilla screamed as her husband picked her up from the ground. Red, my dad’s actual second-in-command appeared along with a few Warriors to take them both to the Cells for Rouges and other prisoners to the Pack.
Pop looked at her and shook his head sadly at her actions. “You have fallen Cilla; Justin has told me of how far you have gone. You are both to serve sentences for hurting an Omega of this Pack. They are meant to be treasured Cilla. You treated a precious Omega as trash and that goes against Pack Law. Things will be done properly or you will face the Council.” pop said getting Orion’s parents to flinch at the thought of facing the Elders of the Werewolf world. The ones that ruled over us all. At least as long as we had no King to rule us. The Warriors chained Cilla and hauled both her and Justin out of the house. Cilla was still screaming about how unjust this was and how Orion was going to pay for killing Kinder.
Once they were gone and everything had settled down, I took Rain into the kitchen where Cassie and mom had disappeared to finish cooking. They had set the table but Rain was not going to let Orion out just yet. Orion was not ready to face all of this just yet and Rain was keeping him asleep to make sure he didn’t have a mental break. Rain told us that when Cilla had appeared Orion had begun to shut down and he had to fully take over so nothing bad would happen to them.
Jax and I decided to stay in our Wolf forms so that Rain did not feel alone and we ate our dinner on the deck in the back yard. He was happy when Cassie, mom and pop came out and joined us in their Wolf forms. His tail wagged as they came out carrying their own food before shifting and joining us, yipping happily. He wanted to be included and was happy he was finally given the chance.
We ate dinner and Jax carried our Mate up to our rooms, were we let him settle in our massive bed. Jax and I shifted into our human forms to clean up before going to our little Wolf, a worried look in our eyes. We wanted him to be comfortable but he did not look like he was.
“Rain, sweetie how are you feeling?” Jax asked as we crawled into the bed up next to him. Hoping that if we were close to him, he would be able to settle.
We heard a soft whimper from him as he tried to snuggle into my chest a little more. ‘Tired.’ He whispered softly in our minds, wanting to reach us both.
Jax and I smiled and wrapped our arms around him, ‘Then let’s get some sleep angel.’ I said nuzzling him as the three of us all fell asleep.
