Her Revenge Contract

Chapter 140

Xavier's POV

The drive back home was a bit too quiet for my liking. I was already missing Kate.

I shook my head, annoyed.

Everything was going well until Emma spoiled our evening.

I stopped the SUV in front of the pack house, gave the keys to one of the pack members who knew where to park the car, and walked toward my quarters. My heart pounded worriedly in my chest when the familiar scent hit my nose.

"F*ck!" I growled under my breath. I didn't expect her to come here, and I wasn't in the mood for her now.

I opened the front door, and the scent intensified, and I followed my nose to the dining room, finding her sitting and stirring a cup of tea at the table. "Grandma Maggie," I said, "this is a surprise!"

"Xavier," she said, smiling, but the smile never reached her eyes. "What is going on?"

"Grandma shouldn't listen to the nonsense that woman said," I argued, knowing what she was referring to, and I went to her. "Kate is definitely not what that woman claims she is. I have been with Kate; she is my mate. I know what kind of person she is." Maggie looked at me. Her eyes were dark and tired. Something worried her, and I knew this wasn't just a regular visit.

"Kate has suffered too much to avenge her parents," I continued. "She is a girl who needs to be loved; she has suffered so much pain. I will not allow anyone to slander her name like that!"

The old woman looked at me and nodded slightly. She looked quite satisfied with me being with Kate.

"Xavier," she said, pinning my gaze with her dark eyes. "Although Kate is your mate, you can find a more suitable and stronger she-wolf to be at your side."

"I am not going to take another mate, Maggie!" I lashed out, frustrated. "Not after Brenda..."

"Mmm," she said, taking a sip of her tea, "she came to see me."

My gaze snapped toward Maggie, and I balled my hands into fists.

"What did she say?" I asked.

Maggie lifted a gray eyebrow and slowly looked at me.

"She claims that she has birthed the next Black heir," Maggie said, setting the cup down.

My gaze was pinned on Maggie's, reading the uncertainties in her eyes.

She knew something, but what?

"Yes," I answered, "but..."

Should I tell Maggie what the report says?

Could she explain the findings?

"But?" She asked, shifting her head to the side.

"I did the paternity test," I said, holding her gaze. She flinched but recovered quickly.

"Oh," she said, pulling her lips in a thin line.

Did she think I would just let Brenda claim he was mine?

"The test claims that I am only 80% a match," I said, "which means..."

"Your brother is the father," she said, and all the blood drained from my body.

"Brother?" I choked on the word.

I have a brother I didn't know of.

"Yes, Xavier," she said calmly, "you have a younger brother."

"How?" I asked, "How do I not know about this?"

The old woman became quiet, and I boiled at where I stood.

How could they keep this from me?

My whole life was a bloody lie!

Maggie took a deep breath before she spoke again.

"Your mother had twins," she said, "but on the night of your birth, your brother was taken."

"What do you mean taken?" I asked.

"He was stolen, kidnapped, whatever you want to call it," she said, "but he became lost to the pack. Your parents did everything in their power to find him, but it was a lost cause." "Why did they stop looking for him?" I asked and sat down at the table.

I couldn't believe what Maggie was telling me.

"They didn't," she said; "they came so close to finding him that they lost their lives."

"Who would take him and why?" I asked.

Maggie sighed, and her face turned tired.

"The prophecy stated that the white wolf's mate would be born from twins," she said slowly, looking down.

"So they wanted to take me?" I asked.

Surprise crossed Maggie's eyes, and she lifted a finger. "Is Kate?"

"Yes," I said, "she is a white wolf; she is the white wolf."

Maggie let out a long breath and nodded.

"Was Brenda ever my fated mate?" I asked Maggie.

"I can't tell you what you smelled," she said, "but I believe that many false mates will come and claim the white wolf's mate."

"What do you know about the white wolf not marking her mate?" I asked.

Maggie flinched at my question, and worry crossed her eyes.

"Another can claim her," she said, "making him the rightful King over all the werewolves."

King?

That's why the group is called King.

That is why her surname was King.

"She is royalty?" I asked.

"Xavier," Maggie said, reaching out and taking my hand in hers, "the Wilsons are returning to town. I suggest you go and see them."

I scrunched my eyebrows together, confused.

Why would the old woman change the direction of the conversation and refuse to answer my question? Was she deliberately doing this, or didn't she hear my question?

"When I have time," I said, "I will visit the Wilson family and introduce them to Kate."

If Maggie thought I would look at another woman, she was mistaken. My heart is already set on Kate, and I have already marked her.

My hand reached my nape, and worry sprouted through my body.

The Wilson family were relatives of Tara, and I haven't seen them since the day the fire consumed Tara's home. Seeing them might just open old wounds.

What was Maggie playing at?

The old woman looked a little dissatisfied when she heard what I said, but she didn't say much after that. She knew how I felt after I lost Tara, and when Brenda suddenly left and rejected me, I never really got close to anyone again.

"Grandma, I want to marry Kate the human way," I said. I wanted her to understand what I felt and how serious I was about Kate.

"No!" Maggie said, shaking her head, "I will not give you my blessing."

My heart stopped in my chest, and I gasped for air.

Without Maggie's blessing, I couldn't take Kate as my Luna in my pack, and I would lose the Alpha position if I got marked by her.

"Don't worry, child," Maggie said calmly, seeing my horrified facial expression. "I will give you my blessing as soon as I know more about Kate. I will make sure she is suitable for you or not, then I will allow you to get married the human way and become the Luna of the pack!"

I felt relieved.

Although I did not get the approval of the old lady as yet, she might still agree in the future.
