Katherine's POV

"Do you need help to get rid of Emma?" Xavier asked as he drove back home.

"No!" I answered in a whisper.

"Why not?" Xavier asked, and he frowned upon hearing this.

I could see Xavier becoming anxious and disappointed with my answers. I knew he just wanted to help, but I needed answers.

"I just don't want to hide under your protection all the time," I said tiredly.

I was sent here to complete a prophecy, and keeping myself out of harm's way wouldn't solve the problem; it would only increase complications to get to my goal.

"The more I am hidden and protected, the more external resources will try to break us apart," I tried to explain.

I raised my head and looked at Xavier. I didn't want him to get hurt. I loved him so much.

"I need to rely on my abilities to defeat what is coming," I continued. "I need to fulfill the prophecy so that we can start a life together, and hiding and protecting me the whole time will only delay the process."

Xavier pinned my gaze; his eyes lit up, but there was worry behind those blue eyes.

Xavier knew that once a decision was made, the chances that I wouldn't back down were slim. He would have no other choice but to sit back and relax.

However, I knew it wouldn't be easy for me to gain a foothold in these mixed circles with my own strength. That is where Xavier will need to help me.

"Okay," Xavier said, "no matter what you decide, I will support your decision unconditionally!"

I knew there would be some conditions to his promise, and that is what I loved about Xavier-we could negotiate terms.

"But..." he said after a moment.

There it was, the conditions, and I internally chuckled. I knew Xavier too well.

"You have to promise me one thing," he said seriously.

"Okay," I said, knowing I wouldn't get out of it so easily. "What?"

The corners of Xavier's mouth twitched; he was surprised that I gave in so easily.

"Don't get hurt, and don't be brave," he said. "I will intervene when necessary, but I want you to come to me in person if you get into trouble. I will not allow my future wife to fight this alone, and you shouldn't be scared to ask for help. Agreed?" My heart wailed at Xavier's words, and I nodded.

Xavier dropped me off at home, but before he left, he grabbed my hand and looked at me.

"I believe in you, Ms. King," he said, smiling.

I watched as he drove off, taking a deep breath.

The tiger inside me was scratching to be left out, and I was ready to scratch Emma's eyes out for the embarrassment she had caused me.

I walked into the King's Residence with my head up high; I had nothing to be ashamed of.

I followed my nose to the living room, seeing Emma sitting there crying.

"This is all an act," Kia growled in my mind; she was just as pissed as I was at Emma.

"Why did you do that?" I yelled at her, and her head snapped toward me, and she jumped to her feet.

I took a seat on the couch, my gaze not leaving Emma's. I was furious and wanted to strangle Emma.

Emma stood frozen with her head lowered and her fingers twisting on the hem of her shirt.

"Cousin, Kate," she whispered, her long eyelashes drooping slightly, covering up the cautiousness in her eyes," I didn't do it on purpose... I have heard from others that you killed my dad; that's why I followed you," she said, and her voice broke and tears spilled over. I couldn't help but frown.

What was it with this girl?

One minute she acts like a mouse, the next moment like a snake. Something is definitely wrong with this picture.

"Your father has been buried in the City cemetery; you can go and visit him there," I said. I have received a copy of the death report, and I am convinced that it is indeed John's body.

I looked at the girl standing before me. Some days she acted crazy and irresponsible, others she was submissive and timed; the question was, on which side was Emma playing? What was she really doing here?

"Why didn't you bury my father's body in the Pack Cemetery?" Emma asked, wiping her tears.

"He was responsible for the former Alpha and Luna's deaths," I said coldly, and Emma raised her gaze, looking at me. "The pack decided that he was not worthy of being buried on the sacred ground."

"Why didn't you argue...?"

I cut her off with a roar.

"He killed my father and my mother!" I growled darkly at her, and she took a step back. "He also almost ran the King Company into bankruptcy. Do you think such a heartless person is qualified to be buried in the Pack Cemetery after he betrayed his Alpha, Luna, family, and pack?"

Emma's eyes were wide with shock. She was surprised by my words and coldness.

"I think you are heartless!" Emma managed to whisper.

"Heartless?" I asked, frowning. "Emma, if I were as heartless as you claim, I should be punishing you for your father's crimes."

Kia expanded my aura, and Emma couldn't help shrinking her neck into submission. She didn't dare look at me; she couldn't.

I didn't bother to further explain or confront her; she was just a silly, naive girl, just like I once was. She can't fight against me.

When I find out the reason behind Emma's visit and will deal with her when the time comes!

I got up, gathered my things, and went back to my room.

I couldn't help sighing helplessly.

I have just brought the real culprits for killing my parents to justice and taken full control of the King's company. Now new claims are popping up from the shadows. When will this end?
