"Understood," Timothy responded.
As soon as Xavier arrived at his office at Nova Group, he saw Sarah waiting on the couch with a document.
Sarah immediately got up once she saw him. "Xavier, why are you so late today...?"
Her voice trailed off as she spotted a scratch mark on his neck. Half of it was exposed, while half of it was hidden by the collar of his shirt. Her heart sank.
"I was busy," Xavier said. He took the documents from her and strode past her to his desk.
He opened the file and began working, not glancing at her again.
Sarah walked over to his desk and said, "Can I take half a day off this afternoon? I have an appointment with the home renovation company."
"Finish your work, and then you can adjust your schedule accordingly," Xavier replied without looking up at her.
"Don't you want to join me? It's your house, after all," Sarah said while propping her arms against his desk.
She gazed at him with anticipation, hoping that he would go with her. The impact would be much greater if both of them showed up in front of Lily. That way... Xavier would never again have any traces left by Lily, right? Seeing that scratch mark drove her crazy with jealousy.
"I'm busy," Xavier said, as dealing with Lily had been a handful lately.
He wasn't interested in anything else aside from work.
Sarah's gaze dimmed, but she feigned indifference and said, "Well, then I'll just implement the style I like."
Xavier hummed in acknowledgment.
After leaving the CEO's office, Sarah called Nadia to confirm the contract signing with the renovation company in the afternoon.
Seeing that Lily hadn't finished sorting out the materials, Nadia immediately agreed.
Lily arrived at Lupier at 8:30 am sharp. As soon as she got to her desk, Nadia approached her and said, "I've told you that you can't leave work if the materials aren't finished." Lily frowned, but she nodded nonetheless "Sorry, there were some unforeseen issues last night, and 1 didn't manage to stay overtime. But I'll finish everything today."
Nadia gave her no room to negotiate. "It's too late!"
"In that case, a sincere apology is the best I can do. You can't fire me because of this," Lily said bluntly.
On her way to work, she had decided that she wouldn't compromise if Nadia made an issue out of this.
Tension hung between them, and people couldn't help but glance over. They were flabbergasted by how Lily, who was merely a newbie, actually dared to stand up to Nadia, who was her direct superior.
They all broke out in a fit of cold sweat for Lily.
Unexpectedly, Nadia didn't burst into a fit of rage and escalate the situation. She simply said, "I'll give you one more chance. A client is coming in this afternoon, and you will be fully in charge of her case. You can stay if you satisfy the client, and I will never make things difficult for you." "Ms. Cooper, you're really putting me in a tough spot."
Lily didn't think this was an opportunity for her. How could she be tasked with handling a project on her own after only one day of work? She was just a designer assistant, after all. Lupier's clients were mostly wealthy and influential. The more famous the designer, the more pleased the client would be.
If she couldn't handle this and lost the deal, Nadia could easily place the blame on her, and she'd be at risk of getting fired.
"The company has no rule that interns get fired for failing to secure a deal. If you can't manage the client, it's my loss; if you can close the deal, you get the credit. I applaud you if you can truly satisfy the client. This is your only choice."
Nadia did ease Lily's concerns, but she had also driven her into a corner. If Lily didn't agree, she was worried that Nadia might make a scene. She would then be left in a very vulnerable position.
So, Lily concurred. She figured that since Nadia had already made it clear, she wouldn't be responsible if she couldn't secure the client.
In the afternoon, she went to the reception room with Nadia. Her expression immediately froze when she saw Sarah sitting at the head of the table.
