Chapter 19
The twins had fallen asleep on the way home in the car. They had been awake the entire shopping trip. All that was left to buy was beds for the twins and then they would set their room up. Daniel would do that tonight once the twins were in bed. He would just buy two single beds for now so they could be set up in the room together. He had brought all the bedding today with the booster seats, clothes, utensils, cups, toys and clothes. The boot of the car was packed with everything the twins would need for the next few months.
As they pulled into the garage at home, Hunter was waiting. He had missed his baby siblings while at uni and wanted to spend some time with them. Eddie was at football practice and wouldn't be home till later. Jamie had told Hunter all about the hose and he was sad to have missed it but grateful there was a video of it all. He was also concerned that the twins were so easily afraid of them all but he hoped in time that they would be ok.
Mitchell jumped out of the car as Daniel finished parking. "Hey just in time mate, help us bring this stuff in while the twins sleep" Mitchell told Hunter who nodded his head. He was a little disappointed that the twins were sleeping but he knew they wouldn't sleep that long and tomorrow he had no classes so he could spend the entire day with them. Daniel opened the back door of the car so he could watch the twins as his sons took the things inside. He refused to leave the twins in the car alone at all regardless if they were at home or not. It took close to 20 minutes to get everything inside.
Daniel began to wake the twins to take them to the house. Dakota was the first one awake glaring at whoever woke him up. Daniel smiled at that because he was just like his other sons. None of them liked to be woken when they were asleep. "Hey buddy we are home. I thought you might want to go play with some of your new toys" Daniel spoke gently to his youngest boy. Dakota just glared and rubbed his eyes. Daniel couldn't help to chuckle just as Hunter stepped out to help his dad get the twins inside. Hunter looked at Dakota glaring at his dad and couldn't help to chuckle. "Don't wake a sleeping Toms male" Hunter chuckled earning a glare from Dakota. Hunter threw his hands up "Wasn't me bud, take it out on him" Hunter told his brother who nodded and returned his glare to Daniel. Daniel shook his head smiling and then proceeded to wake Darcy up.
Darcy woke up slowly "Kota" she whispered opening her eyes to see her dad. She smiled at him and then began to look for her twin. Dakota was still glaring at Daniel. "Out" Darcy whispered trying to get out of the seat. Daniel unbuckled her seatbelt and Darcy quickly made her way over to Dakota snuggling into him and kissing his face and nose. Dakota began to play with Darcy's hair looking at his sister and slowly his glare disappeared and he calmed down. No one but Darcy was allowed to wake him up.
Hunter laughed watching Dakota smiling down at his sister with his hands buried in her hair. "Looks like if we need to wake anyone in the house up we send in Darcy," Hunter told his dad who chuckled and nodded. "I don't think any of us could be mad at being woken up like that" Daniel agreed. Hunter helped Darcy out of the car while Daniel helped Dakota and they all walked into the lounge room where all the toys were now on the ground. Daniel made a mental note to get a toy box and a bookshelf as well with the beds so there was somewhere to put all the new toys and books they had brought today. It had been a long time since the house was full of toys so there was nowhere to store them.
Mitchell had put the rest of the things in the room the twins would be moving into when it was set up. They had to shift the bed down to the other guest room by Friday which was two days away so the grandparents could have somewhere to sleep when they arrived. As Mitchell got back downstairs he saw his sister watching her sparkling red shoes again while walking. "She loves those shoes, I don't know how we are going to get them off her" Mitchell stated. Hunter knelt down in front of his sister and attempted to get the shoes off but Darcy stated "Mine". "I know sweetheart. Don't you want to take them off now you are home?" Hunter asked his sister. Darcy shook her head "Mine shoe" Darcy told her older brother getting upset that Hunter wanted to take her shoes.
Daniel chuckled at Darcy, she really liked the red shoes. Dakota had taken his shoes off the minute he got in the door but Darcy didn't want to. Mitchell laughed out, "Hey Hunter, no borrowing your sister's shoes mate". "I don't think they are my style" Hunter replied. "Leave them on for now, it won't hurt her," Daniel told his son who nodded. "Addy, Cc shoe," Darcy told her father while trying to walk towards him looking at her shoes. "Yes princess they are your shoes. They are very pretty just like you" Daniel told his daughter causing her to blush red. Even her little ears were red. Mitchell and Hunter gushed at the cuteness of her blush.
No one had called Darcy pretty at all. Daniel soon worked out that both twins liked to be praised. They seemed to respond well to positive reinforcement and also to being told what was happening. "Ok let's get some of these toys out to play" Daniel told the twins before he sat on the ground near all the bags. Darcy and Dakota came over next to Daniel watching as he began to open the different toys for them. Dakota and Darcy were both touching Daniel's arm while watching what he was doing. Hunter snapped a few photos before sitting down and playing with the different toys with the twins. Mitchell headed to the kitchen to get started on making dinner. Today has gone well and the twins were happy.
