Finding Charlie Rose

Chapter 8

When Charlie woke up in the morning she was still laying on Byron. She tried to wake him up but he wouldn't wake up and she was sad Bee was just like mummy. Charlie walked out of the room crying. She didn't want Bee to go live in the sky like her mummy did. She didn't know where anyone was. It was early and there was no noise in the house. She didn't even know where the phone was so she could call 000 to get help. Charlie sat at the top of the stairs crying. John heard a little cry and a small pitter-patter of feet and quickly got out of bed. He was worried Charlie would fall down the stairs. He exited his room and saw Charlie sitting on the stairs crying.

John walked over to Charlie sitting down next to Charlie. "Hey pretty girl why are you crying?" He gently asked her not wanting to startle the small girl. "J, I need to call 000 Bee not wake up like mummy" Charlie sobbed. She needed to phone for help and she hoped that J would help her. "Charlie Bryon is sleeping. He will be up soon" John told her. "Nuh-uh, he said he no wake up" Charlie replied. "Mummy no wake up and now Bee" Charlie wailed getting more upset because clearly J wasn't going to help her. Sam who was a light sleeper heard Charlie and quickly ran out to see what was going on. John was trying to comfort Charlie but she was inconsolable and getting louder by the minute. Oliver also came rushing out of the room followed by Liam. Byron slept through the noise.

When the boys saw Charlie crying they attempted to find out what was going on. When John explained the reason behind her tears Liam got angry where as Sam felt sorry for his sister. She must have been so scared when she couldn't wake her mum and she was all by herself. "Hey baby girl how about we go get some strawberries?" Sam asked, but Charlie just wanted to call someone for help.

Liam marched into Byron's room pulling him up by the ear. Byron woke with a fright "What the fuck Liam?" Byron asked. "You go out there and you explain to your little sister that you are not sleeping like her mummy who didn't wake up" Liam fumed. "What the hell? I told her I wasn't waking up. Oh shit, where is she?" Byron rushed out when he realised he had told Charlie he wasn't waking up and she had just seen her mother dead and not waking up. He rushed out of the room seeing his sister sobbing on the ground broke his heart.

"Charlie I'm sorry I'm awake. I'm not sleeping anymore" Byron said. Everyone was glaring at Byron for his poor choice of refusing to wake up this morning. Charlie looked up at Byron with her big blue watery eyes and tear-stained cheeks. Byron felt like absolute shit at this moment. "Mummy wake up now too?" Charlie asked hopeful that if Bee woke maybe her mummy could too. "Mummy isn't going to wake up Charlie. Mummy is living with the angels now remember we spoke about this? She is in the sky baby girl" Sam told her again. This brought on a fresh batch of tears from Charlie. "Come here, baby girl. Let's have a cuddle in my bed while Byron makes you some breakfast" Sam said glaring at Byron "he will even cut you some strawberries to go with your toast" Sam told his baby sister before picking her up and taking her into his bed.

Sam lay on his bed with Charlie lying on his chest and decided he needed to tell Charlie their mum had died because he didn't want her to be upset if people were sleeping. "Charlie, you know how you found mummy sleeping and called 000?" Sam asked his sister. Charlie nodded her head yes. "Well baby girl, mummy wasn't sleeping. Mummy fell and hurt herself really bad. The police and paramedics tried to help her but Charlie, mummy died. She wasn't sleeping, she had a really bad ouchies that couldn't be fixed" Sam said trying to keep things simple but also be honest with his sister.

Charlie lay there quietly processing what her brother had said. "Charlie, do you understand what I'm saying?" Sam asked. Charlie nodded her head yes "Mummy not sleeping, mummy got ouchie and died" Charlie said. "That's right baby girl. Your mummy loved you very much though. She is with the angels now in the sky and will always watch over you" Sam added. When their grandmother had passed away, Sally had told the boys that she was now with the angels so he wanted to use what his mother had said to help Charlie understand.

"Charlie love mummy" Charlie mumbled getting upset, in her little mind she didn't know who would love her now that her mummy was in the sky. "I know baby girl and you know what? I love mummy and Charlie too" Sam said. He truly loved his mum even though he hadn't shown it before she left, he just hoped his mother had known. He also loved Charlie, she had brought back joy into his life and they had only been in each other's life for less than 48 hours. "Really? I Charlie" Charlie said getting excited because that meant someone loved her. "Yes, baby girl. I love you so very much and I'm very happy you are here with us now. I am never letting you go. You're my baby sister" Sam replied hugging Charlie firmly to his chest.

Charlie wiggled out of his hold and moved up towards Sam's face. Charlie placed her worm next to where Sam was lying and took Sam's face into her tiny hands "Prickles" she whispered but Sam heard and couldn't help but laugh. "Charlie love Sammy" she said before leaning in and kissing Sam's forehead just like her mummy used to do to her when she told Charlie she loved her.

Sam couldn't help but let the tears fall. His mum would always kiss him on the head after telling him she loved him. Charlie reminded him so much of his mother. "Sammy sad?" Charlie asked. "No baby girl, mummy used to kiss my head just like you did when we said I love you to each other" he replied. "Me too" Charlie said and let go of Sammy's face picking up her worm again and snuggling into his chest. Laying on her brother's chest was Charlie's new favourite thing to do.
