Finding Bailey

Chapter 8

Nelson had taken longer then he originally planned. He had called to check how the boys were holding up with Bailey after the car seat had been installed into his car and was informed she was still sleeping. Nelson decided to finish the shopping while Bailey slept so she wasn't pulled around the shopping centre.

Nelson had headed to target to buy clothes and toys for Bailey as she literally had nothing. He also brought plastic plates and bowls for her along with sippy cups for her to drink water. Then he headed to Woolworths to stock up on child friendly snacks and different foods that would be easy for Bailey to eat. He brought more nappies and formula, along with baby shampoo, creams and a few more bottles. He also grabbed a kids tooth brush and toothpaste and a baby brush for her hair. The trolley was overflowing with things for Bailey. As he was packing everything into his car Bodie called begging his father to hurry back because Bailey had woken up and no one could settle her.

Blair and Brax were trying to comfort Bailey but nothing was working. They took the nappy off thinking it was wet and tried washing her in the sink like there father had done but that didn't help. They tried giving Bailey the pots and spoons but she wouldn't take the spoon. Blair also tried giving Bailey a bottle but she just choked on the milk. Bodie was at a lost of what to do. Brax held Bailey and tried to sing to her but the only song he could think of was "I'm a mother fucken woman". This didn't help at all and only caused Bailey to cry louder while Bodie was chastising his older brother for swearing in front of a baby.

When Blair heard his father's car pull into the drive way he sprinted outside throwing the drivers door open and yelling at his dad to hurry up. "Blair calm down, we have to get all this stuff inside" Nelson stated but Blair just dragged him into the house. Bailey was screaming hysterically and choking on her own saliva.

Nelson quickly walked over to Brax and took Bailey into his arms. Bailey looked at Nelson and buried her head into his chest. She was visibly calming down just by being held by Nelson. Bailey was worried he had left her. Bailey liked being with Nelson, he was the first person that had been kind to her and given her food.

"Dad how did you do that?" Bodie asked seeing his sister calming down. "Da da" Bailey whispered. Nelson looked down at Bailey, he couldn't believe what he just heard. Brax and Blair hadn't heard what was said but Bodie did. "Did she just call you dada?" Bodie asked alerting the other two. Nelson was looking at Bailey who was now looking at him.

"Da da" Bailey said again smiling up at Nelson. Nelson had tears in his eyes. "Hi princess, I'm right here" Nelson responded to Bailey. He gently wiped her tear stained face and kissed her forehead. "She called you dada. Was that her first word? Bailey say Blair" Blair stated walking closer to his sister. She was looking at Nelson with so much love in her eyes that she didn't even turn to look at Blair.

"Come on princess let's get you a bottle while the boys unpack the car" Nelson told Bailey. "Da da da da" Bailey chirped out towards Nelson. Nelson couldn't wipe the smile off his face and just nodded along to Bailey not taking his eye off her at all. He was just as in love with the little girl as she was with him. "Geez it's like we don't exist at all" Bodie called out as his dad disappeared into the kitchen with Bailey who just kept repeating "da da".

Brax shook his head before exiting the house to unpack the car. He couldn't believe the amount of bags that were there. It took the three boys two trips each to get everything inside. "The cot and chest of draws will be here on Monday" Nelson told the boys as he headed back into the lounge room with Bailey in his arms drinking her bottle. "You mean there is more? How much stuff can someone so small need?" Brax asked.

Nelson shrugged his shoulders, so he may have gone a little overboard with what he brought but he didn't regret it at all. Especially now with Bailey calling him dada, that was the best thing he had heard in years. "Well she needs somewhere to sleep and then somewhere to store her clothes. Plus she needs toys and snacks" Nelson told his sons. The boys were unpacking the toys in the lounge room and couldn't help but open a few before Bailey was ready to play.

Once Bailey had finished her bottle Nelson burped her and then sat on the ground with her. Bailey wouldn't let go of Nelson at all, she didn't want his disappearing again. Bodie sat opposite his sister showing her different toys and encouraging her to say his name but all she did was say "Da da" and look at Nelson.

Blair and Brax unpacked all the food there dad had brought for Bailey and took the clothes upstairs, putting them in the spare room for now. "Do you think Bailey will be ok?" Blair asked his eldest brother as they unpacked the clothes looking for something to put Bailey in to wear. "I think she has a better chance of being ok with us then with that poor excuse of a mother. Besides she is totally in love with Dad and I think he feels the same about her" Brax answered. Blair laughed, he knew that Bailey had Nelson wrapped around her little finger and all it took was saying dada.

Bailey had a teddy bear in her hand while holding onto Nelson's pants. She was trying to bite the ear. "Bodie there is a teething ring in one of the food bags, get that for Bailey. It seems the little princess is getting more teeth" Nelson told his son. Bodie returned with a teething rusk handing it to Bailey who refused to take it because she didn't want to let go of the bear or Nelson. Bodie put it to her mouth and Bailey began to chomp on the rusk. When Bailey realised what it was she dropped the teddy and held the rusk moving it around her mouth and smiling at Bodie causing dribble to run out the side of her mouth. Bodie couldn't help but laugh at his sisters face.
