Finding Bailey

Bailey slept till 6am in the morning, she again needed to go to the bathroom and when she couldn't hold her bladder she wet her nappy crying out in pain. Nelson sat up with Bailey laying on his chest. Brax, Bodie and Blair were wide awake searching for danger. Nelson headed into the bathroom and took off Bailey's wet nappy. He filled the sink with warm water and sat Bailey in the sink to rinse her skin. "Shh sweet girl, it's ok. We will get this fixed up soon" Nelson assured Bailey.

Brax, Bodie and Blair were standing in the doorway watching there dad. "Why does she cry with a wet nappy?" Blair asked, he didn't quiet understand it. "The skin is irritated so when she wees on it, her skins burns and stings. Washing her takes away the burn. Usually without nappy rash it wouldn't hurt. Some kids don't like to be wet and will cry but this is because it hurts her" Nelson explained.

Once Nelson had washed Bailey he wrapped her in a clean towel and took her back to the lounge room handing her to Brax. "Get her dry and put a nappy on, I'll make a bottle. After she finishes that we will try some banana and see if Bailey here likes solids" Nelson stated before heading into the kitchen to start on a bottle as well as coffee for himself.

Once the bottle was made Nelson headed back to the lounge room to see all three of his sons attempting to put the nappy on Bailey. "Make sure the picture is in the front" Bodie stated. "Secure the tabs" Blair added. Brax nodded and concentrated on getting the nappy on Bailey. Nelson couldn't help but chuckle at his boys and the level of concentration they all held while putting a nappy on.

Once the nappy was done Brax picked Bailey up and sat her in his arms. He looked towards the kitchen spotting his dad who had a bottle. "I'll feed her" Brax stated reaching for the bottle to give to Bailey. Brax held the bottle to Bailey's lips and she began to suckle. This time she wasn't starving so took her time with the bottle. She was watching Brax's face while she drank from the bottle. Brax smiled at his sister "hey beautiful, I'm your big brother Brax. I'm not ever leaving you" Brax told her. Bailey smiled back at Brax causing milk to run out the side of her mouth.

"She is smiling" Brax stated before grabbing the towel and wiping Bailey's face. He had put the bottle down as the milk was just running out of her mouth. Bailey's bottom lip began to tremble, she still wanted her bottle of milk but Brax had taken it from her. "No she isn't she is going to cry" Blair stated after looking at his sister's face.

Bailey began to cry for her milk which in turn made Brax panic. He didn't know what to do when she was crying at all and seeing her cry was heart breaking. "Dad" Brax called out. Nelson picked Bailey up along with the bottle and sat down on the couch. Nelson held the bottle to Bailey's mouth and Bailey quickly latched onto the bottle and began to drink again. "She is hungry Brax, you took the bottle from her" Nelson told his son.

Brax felt like a fool, he didn't even realise he had taken his sister's food from her. He was just so happy about her smiling and then wanted to clean up the milk that came out of her mouth, that he didn't think. "Sorry" Brax mumbled while his other brother laughed at his embarrassment. "Don't sweat it, you are all learning how to care for a baby. Bailey is behind where she should be so it's tricky to know what she wants" Nelson assured his sons.

Bailey finished her bottle and Nelson burped her. Nelson sat Bailey on the floor and put some pillows behind her just in case she wasn't able to balance herself. Nelson headed into the kitchen to grab some pots and a wooden spoon. They didn't have toys for Bailey but she needed something to keep her occupied. When he returned he placed the pots on the ground and handed Bailey the wooden spoon. He also put down some keys and also a bottle half filled with water. It was the best he could do for kid friendly things.

Bodie sat down next to his sister and took one of the spoons in his hands. He began to lightly bang on the pot with the spoon with Bailey watching him. Bailey continued to watch Bodie and was studying his face. "Hey Bailey, I'm Bodie. Want to play the drums with me?" Bodie asked his sister. After a few minutes Bailey attempted to hit the spoon which was in her hand on the pot. She slightly hit the pot before looking back at Bodie who was smiling. "You did it. I'm so proud of you" Bodie stated while smiling at the girl. Bailey smiled at Bodie showing her four teeth that she had. Blair clicked a few photos on his phone and managed to capture Bailey's bright smile. Brax, Bodie and Blair were so enchanted by there sister that they wanted to spend all day just watching her.

Nelson headed to the kitchen to begin cooking breakfast. He would make some pancakes so Bailey could try some solid food. He grabbed the pancake shaker added water and started to shake the bottle. He poured the mix in the pan and then began chopping some strawberries and bananas to go with the pancakes. 40 minutes later all the pancakes were cooked and everything was on the table.

Nelson headed into the lounge room seeing his boys playing with Bailey who was smiling and he was amazed to hear a giggle come out of her mouth. He hadn't heard anything but a cry so far and hearing Bailey giggling was the sweetest sound ever. "Breakfast is ready" Nelson called out.

Nelson picked up Bailey and brought her to the table. He cut his food up and had a small plate of food for Bailey. Bailey watched as everyone around her ate the things on the plate. She wasn't use to having solid food, her mother gave her jars of food. Nelson handed Bailey a chuck of banana which Bailey squashed in her hand. Nelson then placed a little bit of the squashed banana into Bailey's mouth. She sucked on the banana and smiled at the taste. Bailey moved her hand to her mouth and began to suck the banana off her hands liking the flavour.
