Chapter 2
Blair and Nelson looked around the house again trying to see what the hell they could do or who the little girl might be. "Let's go sit in the car, this is no place for a baby. We can read the letter and work out who this is" Nelson stated seeing the little girl was now asleep in his arms. Blair nodded and headed out the front door. Nelson closed the door as he left and then headed down to the car.
Blair sat in the drivers seat while Nelson sat in the passenger seat still holding onto the little baby who was wrapped in a dirty towel, they hadn't even found any clothes for her in the apartment. "What's the letter say?" Nelson asked his son. "I don't know, should I open it?" Blair asked. He was so unsure of what to do, he wanted to know what the letter said but he also didn't want to. This was the only connection to his mother. Nelson nodded at his son, they needed to know what was in the letter. Nelson hoped that the letter explained the baby.
Blair opened the letter and began to read it to his father.
Dear Blair
I am so sorry I left the way I did. I was lead astray by a man I once loved who promised me the world. He spoke of needing me and at the time I didn't feel I was useful. He was my first love and convinced me we were meant to be. He made me promise to leave my old life behind including my children so we could have a fresh start together. I was stupid and unhappy at the time and followed willingly.
I started using cocaine and got hooked quickly. I worked to pay rent and buy drugs. I got clean when I discovered I was pregnant with Bailey. Tyrone left me and I did it myself. When Bailey was a few months old, he came back. I got hooked again. We are in trouble and are on the run. I can't have her with me, I can't take care of her or keep Bailey safe from her father. Please Blair I'm not a good mother and she needs someone to take care of her. Her name is Bailey Nelly Williams. She is 18 months old and I want my boys to know there sister and her to feel love because I can't give her that.
I love all of my children enough to know I'm not good for them. Take care of each other and tell your dad I'm sorry.
Don't look for me, it's to dangerous.
Love Melanie.
Blair and Nelson sat in silence for a few minutes both absorbing what they had just heard. Nelson couldn't believe Bailey was 18 months old, she was so small and didn't look like she could stand. He would of guessed she was maybe 12 months at most. "Bailey's birth certificate is in the envelope too" Blair stated looking at his father who nodded his head.
"Dad, what do I do? I can't raise a baby on my own. I can barely look after myself" Blair stated. "Call your brothers, they need to be involved in this decision. Tell them to meet us at home in 30 minutes" Nelson stated. He knew all three of his sons would need a say in this. If it was up to him he would care for Bailey because she was his sons little sister and no child deserved to be in the state she was in.
Nelson ordered himself a car with a car seat in it to get home. He would of driven but it was not safe to have Bailey sitting in the car without the proper car seat. He also sent a message to his other two sons informing them of a family emergency and to get home asap. "Blair you drive my car, I have ordered a car with a seat for Bailey" Nelson stated earning a nod from his father. "On your way I need you to stop and get some nappies for Bailey. I would get the 12 month size as she is quiet small. She needs nappy rash cream and wipes. Also get some formula step 2. She will need to have something in her stomach and I have no idea if she has been eating solids. Grab some baby bottles too" Nelson added.
Once the car pulled up, Blair took off towards the supermarket with the list of things his dad had asked him to get for Bailey. Nelson held onto Bailey as she was still sleeping while the guy put the baby seat in rear facing as the little girl was so small. Nelson attempted to put Bailey in the seat without waking her but the minute he let her go, she became hysterical. Nelson sat beside her and was speaking calmly to her attempting to calm her down. Bailey was looking at him crying and wouldn't settle, she just wanted to be back in his arms.
Bailey was scared, she didn't want to be left alone again. She was also so hungry and thirsty. She missed being held by the strange man who had kept her warm. She kept her eyes on the man as he spoke with her. Nothing was calming her down though even though she gripped onto Nelson's finger like it was her life line.
The driver took them straight to Nelson's house. He was concerned with how distressed the baby became when she was out of Nelson's arms and assumed he was her father. "Your little girl doesn't like the car?" The guy asked. Nelson wasn't sure how to answer, Bailey wasn't his little girl but that would just cause more questions which he could not answer at this point. "No I guess she doesn't" Nelson finally stated.
As they pulled up at the house, the guy jumped out to help Nelson get the little girl out of the car seat. The minute she was in Nelson's arms she began to settle down. "She is a daddies girl" the man stated. Nelson hummed in agreement, she had certainly taken a liking to him. Nelson wasn't sure if it was because he had been the first to hold her or if it was because she felt safe with him. Either way he wanted to keep Bailey safe and happy. He didn't like seeing the little girl upset at all.
