Chapter 23: A whole week
After our first eventful week the three of us including Ian quickly fell into a pattern of sorts. I kept up my pack’s standards and made sure the den and surrounding area was clean and neat like DenMother would have liked. I think she would have been pleased and that thought alone made me work hard at it. At first Jane was no good at keeping her human things from laying around but she did start trying to at least.
At first we stayed in wolf form but in time to explain and demonstrate the use of human things we changed to human form. At those times I kept strictly to Ian’s explanation of how boys and girls acted around each other. I couldn’t help feeling immensely attracted to her but I could keep from showing how I felt and I did.
Through it all Grandfather also made frequent visits always brining a piece of furniture with him for the den and his mate Emily came often with human food hoping I would like it more than my normal diet and come and live in the main den with them. I was polite and ate it but the taste was really awful. And Jane politely accepted the gifts from Grandfather but would throw them in the back of the den more often than not refusing to use them.
Jane eventually followed me in my routines and I was proud of our little pack. We kept in practice with our hunting skills and I made sure we didn’t hunt out any one part of our little hunting ground. I even marked off an area for us just in case even though there didn’t seem to be any other wolf packs around.
I soon knew exactly what game roamed where and in what numbers. I knew what plants of what value to us grew nearby and noted the season for each. I wasn’t an Alpha yet but I made my every moment count.
We became as siblings in wolf form and after a week of me sneaking over to Jane at night to curl up beside her she finally gave up the pretence of sleeping apart and willingly slept next to me at night. She didn’t even complain as WindChaser had about my tail following him around in the hot summer months she actually seemed to enjoy our tails being entangled though it left her feeling a little silly as well.
Jane was always the ardent teacher brining me a couple of objects from the main den each day so I could get comfortable with them. Our den would have been cluttered with things if she had her way but I made her take some back in exchange for new ones. The easiest way for me to see what she meant was still using uncle Ian’s laptop and he left it for us to use. Jane was proud of me for learning human language quickly and I revelled in her approval.
I learned to wear human cloths but shirts were difficult for me to keep up with. They had a tendency to tear and eventually Jane conceded that shorts would do on their own. I caught her watching me oddly in human form at times and she would always smile guiltily and look away quickly when I caught her at it.
Other Werewolf’s belonging to the pack also stopped by to introduce themselves. On these visits Jane always had good reason to be elsewhere but I enjoyed meeting them and learning more about the pack. I was especially fascinated by the sports they enjoyed playing against each other but didn’t feel comfortable enough to join in yet.
We even visited the Compound on occasion with Jane keeping close supervision. When I’m visiting the compound I tend to lower my shield to absorb everything around me.
On one of these visits both Ian and Grandfatherstanding in the bathtub out of my way projected to me how to use the toilet. It was harder than it looked and Grandfathermate complained about my aiming afterwards so I kept to the woods when nature called.
