Chapter 2544
A few minutes later, the taxi driver dropped the three of them off at the entrance of the manor.
"Here you go, folks, we've arrived. Who's paying the fare?"
The two cousins got out of the car, lost in their own thoughts.
They were only there to bolster Carrie's confidence, so they did not want to reach into their own pockets to fork out more expenses.
They were no longer the pampered young masters of wealthy families. They had bidden farewell to their days of extravagant spending. Now they worked regular jobs, earned a few thousand bucks a month, and had to support their wives and children. They needed to be frugal.
Unlike Carrie.
Despite her bitter feud with Camryn, she was still a young lady of the Newman family and had a share in the family's wealth.
Once she returned to the Newman family and reclaimed her bank cards, phone, and car keys, she would have endless wealth.
This taxi fare had to be on Carrie.
Observing her two cousins getting out without any intention of paying, Carrie muttered a few choice words under her breath and reluctantly paid up.
The driver collected the money. After she got out, he swiftly turned the car around and headed down the hills.
Derrick suddenly said, "Hey, driver, don't leave just yet. Wait here for a bit. We'll need a ride back to the city later."
There was no chance to hail a taxi here.
While the York family had many vehicles, they would not provide transportation, especially for the likes of them.
Edward and Carrie realized that they wanted to keep the taxi driver around, but he had already sped off. He stepped on the gas pedal with no shred of interest in doing business with them. "Why's he running off so fast? Is he rushing to the loo or something?"
Failing to keep the taxi driver, Carrie let out a string of curses. "Okay, we'll get an Uber later."
Edward said, "Carrie, you really need to control your temper and accept reality. Your father was imprisoned, and Camryn is now the head of the Newman family. If you continue to be like this, you'll end up at a huge disadvantage, and nobody's going to help you.
"Even if you have to pretend, you should at least make some effort to be on Camryn's good side. Otherwise, you'll keep finding yourself locked out of your own house. How are you going to live like that?"
Edward and Derrick could not afford to take care of this cousin of theirs with such a bad temper.
Although six months in jail had made Carrie less of an idiot, her temper was just as foul as ever.
In the early stages of her imprisonment, her arrogance landed her on the receiving end of many beatings, which taught her to suppress her bad temper, making her appear well-mannered. However, she regained her foul temper once she got out of prison.
Old habits did die hard.
Carrie said, "You all are well aware of the long-standing conflict between Camryn and I. We've had a strained relationship since we were little. She had never treated me like her sister, and I don't consider her as one either. Even if I were to show humility in front of her, the bad blood between us won't magically disappear, and our relationship certainly won't improve."
Carrie was crystal clear on this.
"I am the second daughter of the Newman family. The family's wealth was left for me and Trenton by my parents, it's not Camryn's to inherit. Listen well, my cousins. As long as you help me regain control of the family, I won't forget to reward you.
"You've been working at Newman Enterprise for so many years and have put in so much effort. But as soon as Camryn took over, she drove you out of the company. How heartless!
"If I take her place as the head of Newman Enterprise, I will immediately hire you back into the company and appoint you to be executives. That way, you can help me with managing the company." Carrie was making some empty promises.
