Chasing The Broken CEO

Chapter 31

I can't help but think about that kiss we shared. It has an unfamiliar effect on my chest every time I think it replays on my mind. I brushed away my thought and reminded myself that what we have is just a pure business! That's right, Nathalie. Don't dwell on it!

Just like what Evan said, I called my mother. She answered my call immediately. All of a sudden, I became too weak when I heard her sob on the other line.

"Sweety! Oh, my God!" she cried. "I am sorry... I am glad that Evan was able to find you. That gave me a sigh of relief... I won't be able to forgive myself if something happens to you... Please, go home... I am really worried about you..." I sighed in defeat.

"I will, mommy..."

"Thank you, Nathalie," she said, still crying. "You have nothing to worry about. Your father and I would not ask you to resign from your work ever again. Just please... please... go home, okay?"

I felt my chest tighten as I listened to mom's cry. It feels like in just a few seconds, I no longer feel the anger towards her. It's like I don't feel mad at her anymore and I just want to hug her once I see her again. I realized that I can't treat them this way any longer.

I swallowed hard and nodded slowly.

"Yes, I will, mom. We're already in the airport," I said as I inhaled heavily.

My mother told me how sorry she felt. We talked for another minute and then I ended the call. I sighed heavily and sat on the chair quietly. Ash was still sitting beside me but he already stopped nagging when he felt that I am not in the mood to argue with him.

Evan sat beside me when we finally entered into the plane. As far as I remember, I knew how to fasten my seatbelt but he was the one who buckled it for me. I remained silent and didn't thank him though, as I didn't ask him to do it anyway. I was only looking at the window during the entire flight. I kept looking at the clouds and mountains while listening to the music I played using my earphones. Out of curiosity, I gazed at the man beside me.

Evan is already asleep with his eye mask on.

Since he's not awake, I was able to look at him carefully. I looked down to his lips.... It's red and kissable...

That sinful lips...

The memory of him kissing me replayed on my mind again. My heart thumped aggressively like it remembers the emotion I had when I felt his lips on mine. I swallowed so hard and looked away. Just damn it!

Why did he kiss me anyway?

I am not that naive, alright? I can easily tell if someone likes me or has interest in me. Based on how Evan and I argue, like it does happen most of time, I could tell that he doesn't have interest in me. But I am really wondering why he kissed me that day.

Was he trying to prove something? Or is trying to mess up with me this time? If that's the case then it's not funny! Nevertheless, I won't stay still and let him make fun of me!

"I will drive you home," said Evan.

We finally went out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He phoned someone and then a car suddenly stopped in front of us.

"I have to go now, lovers!" said Ash that made me glance at him. "I will see you again, Nathalie. It was so nice meeting you."

"I don't feel the same way Ash, but yeah, just take care," I replied grumpily.

He just laughed a bit because of my statement. He put his aviators on and then he patted Evan's shoulder.

"Until our next mission, brother!" he told Evan and then he finally walked away.

Evan didn't even say a thing, like he doesn't care about Ash's existence at all. His grumpy side was surely activated again. His face looked so grim and he didn't want to talk at all. He grabbed my luggage bag and then he put it inside the car's compartment.

I let out a heavy sigh and just hopped inside the shotgun seat. I immediately buckled my seatbelt, afraid that he might do it for me again, making me breathless and stunned. I don't like that feeling!

I remained silent the whole time as he drove the car on our way home. Evan answered a few calls while driving. Tired because of our flight, I let myself rest for a bit and took a nap with my head resting on the back of my seat.

Evan only woke me up when we arrived in our mansion. My mom ran towards me and hugged me tight as we entered in the living room. I hugged her too and told her that I was fine.

"Thank you very much, Evan." Mom told Evan who is just behind me.

"Anytime, Auntie Michelle..."

I turned to Evan. He stared at me too. I looked down immediately as his gaze felt electrifying.

"Uhm... Thank you," I shyly said to him.

Until now, I am still thinking about what happened yesterday at the light house! My goodness! What if he thinks that I am too affected? Holy cow! I'd rather just die! "Anything for you, Risha."

I gasped and met his gaze again. He smiled a bit and nodded at me.

"I will go ahead, Auntie. I'll see you again, Rish..." he said politely.

"Sure, Evan! Thank you so much!" Mom smiled at him.

One more glance at me and then he finally went out of our mansion. That was the only time I was able to breathe out.

That was just a simple kiss... I am not ignorant when it comes to that as I have been kissed by men before. I'm just not sure why I can't get it off my mind.

I don't know why it affects me so much!
