Chapter 1664
“I have a couple of flashlights in my car.
I’ll fetch them.” A thought struck Rachel, remembering the flashlights she had received when she sent the car for maintenance.
She stopped and suggested, “It’s really cold without heating.
Since you have a fever, let me take you back to your room so you can lie down.”
Although it was dark, she could sense Alberto’s unflinching gaze on her.
“Mr.
Gibson?”
“Go get them.
I’m fine here,” Alberto commanded coldly, his gaze narrowing.
Rachel furrowed her brows and pondered for a moment.
Then, without uttering a word, she moved behind Alberto in the darkness, grasped the back of the wheelchair, and started pushing him ahead.
“Can you guide me to your room?”
She was not familiar with this house, so she cautiously navigated to avoid colliding with anything.
“Miss Bennet.” His tone suggested displeasure, signaling that he wasn’t content with Rachel’s actions.
“You are a patient.” Rachel didn’t mean to stop.
The implication was that since he was a patient, he should be obedient.
After a moment of silence, Alberto instructed, “First door to the left.”
Rachel’s lips curled into a smile.
Although Alberto didn’t look at her, he could feel that Rachel was in a good mood.
His eyes darkened and his mouth moved.
In the dark, no one could see the faint smile on his face.
Maybe out of concern for his well-being, the house had minimal furniture, making his room appear simple and spacious.
Rachel assisted him to the bed.
“Allow me to help you onto the bed.” As she spoke, she extended her hand to him.
“You can lean on my shoulders.”
Alberto observed her draw closer, the delicate fragrance she wore reaching his senses.
However, he remained still.
Usually, he needed two people to help him get in and off the car.
Now, he had to climb onto the bed, and her strength might not suffice.
After an extended pause and observing his unmoving figure, Rachel inquired, “Mr.
Gibson?”
“There’s no need.” His voice exhibited a degree of stiffness.
“Pardon?”
“I’m capable of getting onto the bed by myself.
You can go and get your things now.”
Confronted with Alberto’s stubborn expression, Rachel conceded reluctantly.
“Alright.”
“Then I’ll close the doors and windows.” After uttering those words, Rachel swiftly turned around and closed the window, determined to retain the warmth within the room for as long as possible.
At that moment, her cell phone chimed.
The call was from the delivery guy.
Rachel accepted the call, stealing a glance at Alberto, before exiting the room, engulfed in darkness.
The moment she gently closed the door behind her, she ended the call and placed her phone aside.
She turned around and looked at the closed door, quietly listening to the sound inside.
She understood that Alberto’s refusal of her assistance stemmed from his reluctance to reveal his vulnerabilities, especially in the presence of a woman.
Thus, she respected his pride and refrained from insisting on helping him, Bang!
A loud sound came from inside, as if someone had fallen to the floor with his wheelchair.
