Chapter 35: A Secret Revealed
-Celeste-
After Brendon had texted me, asking me to tell him where I was, it wasn't long before Tim and Gary showed up, smiling at me through the coffee shop I was in with Simone and Dora. "Oh no," I whispered.
"Oh great!" Simone groaned, hating me as much as I hated being watched over. The guys came over to us, flopping down on the couch beside me and Simone, while Dora had a chair beside the rest. "Did Brendon send you?" I asked, turning to Tim.
"He did," he replied, taking the cookie I had ordered and beginning to eat it.
"That was mine."
"Not anymore."
I rolled my eyes before turning to Gary, who was leaning very close to Simone, teasing her with his touches. I knew they had slept together a few times, but they were both free people, not interested in relationships. However, Simone always liked to play hard to get, so she swatted his hand away, which just made him chuckle.
"Why?" I asked him.
"Why what?"
"Why are you here?"
"Seems like someone snuck into our territory last night."
"Who?" I asked.
"Someone with a tiny dick who can't understand a no," Gary replied, making us three women roll our eyes while the guys laughed.
"Who?" I asked again.
"Probably Zack," Tim informed me, making me turn to him.
"Zack?"
"Yes."
"But why?"
Tim shrugged. "He wants what he can't have. It's pathetic."
I knew this bad feeling was trying to tell me something, but there was something else that began forming in my mind, something I had to have confirmed.
"I need to go pee," I told them, standing up and putting my coffee down. At least I had the freedom to go to the bathroom alone, but I didn't go to the bathroom. When I was out of sight, I turned, going for the other exit, and then I went to my car.
I knew I was taking such a risk doing this, but I had to confirm this. There was just something so odd about Zack suddenly breaking in, and I knew he wasn't going to show unless I appeared. Something in me just knew I had to go find him, even though I might risk my life.
Celeste, this is a bad idea, as my wolf informed me.
"The last time I was too slow to give you control, I won't be slow this time," I promised.
My wolf sighed, but as I neared the border, I slowed down. I parked my car at the side of the road, then I got out. I walked to my right instead of straight ahead, and then I just kept walking. I knew Zack would find me. It felt almost as if I were drawn to him, but not in the way I was drawn to Brendon.
I didn't have to walk for long before I heard a second pair of footsteps, and I stopped without turning. I took a deep breath, feeling as if I were back in my other life under his power. I shook away the feeling before I dared to face him. He smiled darkly as I finally looked at him.
"Zack..." I whispered.
"Hello, Celeste."
"W-What are you doing here?"
"You know."
"No, I don't," I snarled.
"You do, or you wouldn't have come out here with Brendon. But once again, he won't be able to save you. I swore I would make sure I would never bow to him again. No one would." "I don't understand."
"Yes, you do. So say it," he demanded. "Zack..."
"Say it! You already know!" he growled.
"You're a traveler..."
"I am," he confirmed. "I just didn't know you were. I should have, though. We were drawn to each other as travelers are, and I confused that drawing as if you actually belonged to me." "We don't? But in my last life-"
"Yes, about that..."
"What?" I asked.
"You see, Celste, I have traveled a lot, through many lives, but it was not to have you," he growled.
"Then what?"
"It was to fuck up Brendon and finally win over him for once. You see, in my original life, he has you, and he is damn fierce, as he has been in all my lives. I am a weak alpha in that world. I am not popular in the way I am now. I stand very alone, and he is the bully, together with your brother. You tried to be nice to me a few times, and I ended up getting my ass kicked for it. That's when I learned of my powers, because it made me so mad I accidentally traveled." "To where?"
"Another life, but even there it wasn't that much different, so I continued on and on, searching for a life where I could take the one thing from him that he loved more than anything: you," he informed me. "So, we do belong to each other?"
"Of course you do. Your love is fucking edged through time, and it is sickening," he snarled.
"But the last life..."
"Yes, it took me so long to find, but finally I found this haven where Brendon hadn't claimed you yet, and I ruined it for you two."
"How?" I whispered. "How is that possible?"
"Because travelers are drawn to each other, and when you turned 18, I made it so he couldn't be there on the dot as he usually is to claim you or at least to form a connection with you. I kept him away from you until I could step in, confusing you and attaching you to me," he explained. "And I finally had you."
"But why not just kill me?"
"It wouldn't have had the same effect. I wanted to taunt him with you. However, I sort of forgot why I took you, because we did fall in love, and you did change me." "But you still killed me," I reminded him.
"I did, because I remembered what I truly wanted. After destroying him, I wanted to ruin your brother too, and you were a distraction. I needed you gone," he replied.
"Goddess... You actually... Did you kill me that night?"
"No, you would have felt me coming. I sent someone else."
"And Serena?"
"Just a luna, I know how to control," he explained.
"But why are you here then? Why not just ruin that world where you had me?" I asked.
"I did want to, but you see, then I felt it. Travelers know, at least when they have discovered their powers, when someone else travels, and when you died, I felt it. I had to follow you and confirm it." "And... kill me?"
"Of course. I can't let you be with Brendon and let him win."
"Zack, don't you see how crazy this is?" I asked. "Why not just be content with what you have?"
"Because it isn't fucking enough!" he yelled. "I get sick just thinking about you two. No, he doesn't ever get a happy ending!"
"But if you kill me, I will just travel to a new place!"
"Have you not read up on your powers?" he taunted.
"What?"
"Once you die once, you get locked in."
I had forgotten that part, and I felt my heart freeze in my chest as I took a small step back.
"I see you do know. But this means I only have to kill you once more, and I can go back to my better world," he said, and he began coming closer.
But I had promised I wouldn't be slow this time. I changed right away, ripping my clothes and growling at Zack. He just laughed.
"I killed you once, Celeste. I will do it again," he mocked before he shifted, standing on all fours.
He charged at me, and we rolled over the ground, his teeth digging into my arm, and I screamed before clawing at him, getting him off me. I got up from the ground and we began circling each other, but just as he was about to pounce, a large growl echoed throughout the woods before I felt something flutter through my mate bond.
Brendon came crashing against Zack, taking him by surprise, and he did not hold back. I had to look away as Brendon completely ripped him apart, but leaving him alive, so when Brendon stepped back, only a tortured-looking Zack lay on the ground, spitting blood.
I shifted back, and so did Brendon, who walked over to me, bringing me closer to him.
"You're in such big trouble," he warned me, but there was no anger in his voice. He just pulled me to him, holding me close.
"Brendon, you can't kill him," I whispered.
"What? Why not?"
"He is a traveler," I informed him. "He will just travel."
"Then let him. I don't want him here."
"He could ruin another world."
"But he would be locked in in the next one. If I don't kill him, he will continue to travel," Brendon reminded me.
"Fuck..."
"The next Celeste and Brendon he meets will take care of him," Brendon assured me before kissing my forehead. "You might want to close your eyes."
I did, and I listened to the scream that followed shortly after.
