Chapter 404 Look Like A House Husband
"So what? She left because in her heart, she never wanted to be with Zack. She is ill-tempered and stubborn." Zed shook his head as he made his point. Hearing Zed's disapproving words for Magnolia, Jean fell silent.
Now, she had more or less understood why Zed had been acting abnormally and weirdly today.
'Yes, once you miss the chance to convince the person you love to stay with you, life will never give you a second chance.
No matter what Zack and Magnolia went through, or how long Zack waited for her, the chance to stay together only comes once. If you miss it, it will be missed forever. Then, there will be no chance to make up for your mistake.
This is why Zed has changed his state of mind. No matter how angry he is with me, he is trying hard to seek forgiveness.
Clearly, he doesn't want to lose me just because of the misunderstanding between us.'
Mulling over these thoughts, Jean was overcome with affection for Zed.
Underneath Zed's tough exterior was a soft and tender heart. Jean realized that he greatly cared about her. As he found out that Jean was looking at him lovingly, Zed sported a pleasing smile in a flash and asked, "What do you want to eat? I will cook for you." "You cook?" Jean was surprised. She just couldn't believe it was possible for Zed to cook.
"I feel it would be a great honor to cook for my wife. Of course, I can only cook something simple, may be spaghetti and toasted bread,"
Zed replied embarrassed.
There were times when Zed had cooked, though being born with a silver spoon had never let such a situation come up except when he was on foreign land.
"Then, just cook spaghetti!" While she was saying these words, Jean's eyes suddenly gleaned and she stared at Zed full of expectations.
"Okay. Sit there and relax. It'll just take a couple of minutes." Zed kissed Jean's forehead and looked deep into her eyes. Then, without further delay, he walked towards the kitchen.
Instead of just sitting there, Jean closely followed him and asked, "Why don't you ask Zelda to cook?"
"I have asked her to take a holiday before I came back. So now it is only the two of us at home." Zed put on the apron. He opened the fridge and searched for the ingredients as he chatted with Jean.
"Why?" asked Jean flummoxed by such a decision.
"I was not sure about you forgiving me. I knew you were very cross with me." Zed took cheese and bread out of the fridge and put them on the counter. Then, he briefly looked at her.
Jean, on the other hand, was beaming with pride and self-importance. Finally, she said, "How rare this is! I never thought that you could also do something without absolute certainty."
"Now, I am going to do another thing without any self-confidence. Therefore, can you please go out first? My cooking skills are poor and I am afraid of being nervous in front of you. I won't be able to apply any skills if you stand beside me..." Zed pleaded earnestly.
"Apply your skills?" Staring at Zed, Jean burst into laughter. Seeing how serious he was when he said this, she realized that Zed was not joking. To no longer wait and fulfill her desire of eating something cooked by Zed, Jean shrugged her shoulders and said, "Okay, okay. I am going to wait outside."
Zed gently shoved Jean out to the dining room, handing her a carton of milk from the fridge. "You drink it until the food gets ready. Anyway, I'll be out in a jiffy."
Zed smiled broadly and walked back to the kitchen.
Jean shook her head sideways, amazed by what Zed would surprise her next. She started to drink milk and walked towards the garden.
The fact that she and Zed were still together after all the rough patches their relationship was hit was commendable. It was not only because of the compromises they made, but also because after all, true love was the foundation of their marriage. Frictions were unavoidable between lovers. Misunderstanding and rash acts were more common.
Jean didn't know what kind of situation other couple got in. She wondered if other couples also dealt with each other like her and Zed.
But she was very certain about one thing. That was, Zed had tremendously changed ever since she got to know him.
For example, today he was cooking for her. Jean had never imagined that in her wildest dreams.
Even though he did it only to please her and seek forgiveness, as CEO of the Qi Group who was well-known in the H City, this gesture spoke volumes. Jean was really moved by what Zed had done for her.
And today, it was only Jean and Zed in such a big house of the Qi Family.
Jesse, the one that Jean had been cribbing about the most, had left the Qi Family. Jean felt relieved at the thought that now it was only her who could enjoy life with Zed calmly and cozily.
From now onwards, they would neither get bothered nor quarrel with each other for anything.
At the thought of this, Jean subconsciously began to smile.
"Jean, the food is ready. Come and eat." Zed stepped out of the kicthen and hollered at Jean who was standing in a daze in the courtyard.
Jean came back to reality and walked towards Zed who looked quite a funny sight dressed in an apron that had cartoons. One wouldn't hesitate to call Zed a house husband. Seeing this side of Zed, Jean drew closer to him as she took jaunty steps. With a dazzling smile, Zed stretched his hand and took Jean's in his. Then, the two of them walked with intertwined fingers, feeling the warmth of each other.
Two plates of spaghetti were laid on the opulent table. To Jean's surprise, the spaghetti just looked like the one she would see in the restaurant.
"Was this really cooked by you?" Jean asked him, feeling a little startled.
"It looks very appetizing and delicious!"
"Hmm." Zed nodded and said, "Take a seat, my dear, and let's eat!"
Jean was already drooling at the sight of it and couldn't wait to dig into it. Without any delay, she sat down and started to fork the pasta.
After tasting it, Jean looked up at Zed dumfounded and asked,"Did you just say that your cooking skills are very poor?"
"Yes, I can only cook select dishes." Zed stared at Jean nervously after Jean asked him this question again. Without realizing what Jean thought of it, he asked her a little uneasily, "Is it yucky? Then, don't eat it. We can dine out."
"No......" Jean shook her head, looked up at Zed and gave him a big thumbs up before she said, "It is very delicious. I am sure that you cook as good as any chef, though I seldom eat spaghetti."
"Really?" Zed laughed happily on hearing Jean's compliments. He added, "I didn't specially set out to learn cooking. But I liked eating my food when I stayed abroad. At times, I got hungry and worked too late in the night, leaving me with only one scenario for dinner- cook on my own. Thus, I cook only very few dishes."
"Zed, how can you be so multi-faceted?" Jean stared at Zed and said, "You cook occassionally, but your skills are so excellent that others could easily get jealous of you. They will surely spill blood if chefs know that someone like you is so excellent at cooking." "Okay. That's enough. Don't flatter me anymore with words. I will cook for you again if you really like it." Zed smiled.
"That's great! You said it yourself!" Jean replied happily when Zed promised her that he would cook for her in the future.
"Hmm! Hurry up and eat it, or else it will get cold," Zed spoke to her while starting to eat too.
Jean ate up all the spaghetti on her plate. But, she wished for another serving of the lip-smacking pasta. It wasn't that she wasn't full, but her heart's desire was to savour more.
She felt that what she had just eaten was the most delicious food in the world.
Looking at this Jean, Zed felt funny. At the same time, a sense of pride filled his heart.
The woman he loved spoke so highly of his cooking skills. Zed felt happy to have cooked for her, although it had taken him a long time.
"Come and eat some fruits," Zed spoke to Jean after he presented the fruit sorter, another preparation that he had made for their dinner. But before Jean could follow him, her mobile phone started ringing.
