Chapter 71
Chloe's POV:
Right there on our pouch, stood my grandfather and husband. They looked to be in a grave communication and I felt the shivers course through and settle at my knees. It felt like my legs were about to give out from under me and I struggled to hold myself up.
I moved towards them, listening carefully to every little word they exchanged. My grandfather looked collected, while Marcus looked like he was struggling to keep his fist to his side and not slam it into my grandfather's face. "Not. Happening," Marcus growled out. "Keep my wife out of whatever shenanigans you've got going on, I would not like to repeat myself!"
I watched as my grandfather's brow raised, his lips curving up in a smile. "If I were you, I wouldn't make an enemy of me. Let my grand daughter go and I won't fight you, rather I shall make peace and withdraw from war," he said coolly. Marcus scoffed. "It is funny how you think you can stake a claim on Chloe, she hates you and would not want anything to do with a person like you. It would be better if you forgot about making any relations with her!" My grandfather's head cocked to the side, "so... you want the war I suppose?' He asked (like he had not heard what my husband had just said). "Do you love her that much to sacrifice your life for her?"
Marcus growled and I scowled at him, holding myself back from hissing. "I will fight for her, I will die for her. If it's war you want, bring it on!" He moved closer to my grandfather. "Do what you want Dracula, you. Do. Not. Scare me!" My heart warmed at Marcus's words, making my heart race with excitement. He knew just the right things to say to make a girl spread her legs all night long.
"You heard that child?"
I tensed up, my eyes widening as Dracula seemed to be staring right at me. I slowly looked down my body to see that I was still invisible and when I raised my head up, he had a mischievous grin on his face.
"I see you," he said, raising his fingers to snap in the air and I stumbled forward, my invisible spell breaking. I looked up to glare at him. "I am master over these abilities, of course I can see you even when you are invisible." Marcus came to help me off the floor, cleaning me and checking my body for any injuries. "Do you hurt anywhere?"
I shook my head; no.
"Why are you outside, you are supposed to be asleep," he said in a scolding tone of voice.
Not feeling like exchanging words with him in front of my grandfather, I shrugged his hand off of me, walking away and going to stand in front of my grandfather. "Dracula, what brings you to my house?"
He folded his hands behind his back, his green eyes piercing deep into mine. "The moment you walked out through that door, you already knew exactly what brought me here." His face grew more serious, if it could with how serious he always looked. "I want you back in the coven."
"Never..." Marcus hissed beside me.
Dracula ignored him. "You have come of age, it is time to take your mother's place." He paused, as if waiting to let his previous words sink in. "Come and redeem our legacy and break your marriage with this dog, now that it is still early!"
His words pissed me off and I growled lowly, my wolf threatening to jump out and fight him. I restrained, taking fast breaths to suppress the anger that was about to explode from inside of me. It was a surprise that I of all people could do that, I wondered where the tolerance could have surfaced from.
"Make your decision," Dracula spoke up again. "Call me whenever you decide, your decision will determine what the future holds for us all." And with that, he disappeared.
"You did nothing to defend me," Marcus accused.
"How did you end up out here with my grandfather?"
He raised a brow and I raised one too in silent challenge. He couldn't turn the cards on me and make it look like I was the guilty one who was caught outside with the enemy in the middle of the night.
"I told you to stay away from him," I went and shoved him in the chest. "Do you know how dangerous he is? Dracula could have done anything to you!"
A muscle in Marcus's jaw ticked, and his eyes seemed to travel far. "How could I, when I opened my eyes to hear someone calling my name?" He asked. "I came out here and here he stood, telling me to leave let you go or he would go to war with me. Of course I refused," his face fell I, his disappointment doing nothing to hide itself. "That was until you came."
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes. I prayed for patience in order not to argue with him, knowing that it would be the absolute wrong timing for that. "Don't be too fast," I said, grabbing his hand and pulling him inside the house. "I know what I was doing. You need to see something, I will show you."
I led him up the stairs and into our bedroom. I pushed him down on the bed, taking his hand and placing it on my chest. I tried to shift my thoughts to focus on the dream I last had, showing him as much as my brain permitted.
He remained silent, all the while watching my thoughts. "You look so much like her," he whispered, passing me a little smile. He took his hand off my chest, then took mine in his. "Sorry I wasn't here when you woke up, you must have been really scared to death."
