A Pinch of Cinnamon

Chapter Christmas Special

Spencer’s POV

“You ready sweetheart?” I hear Richard suck in a breath as he rounds the corner. “You look beautiful.” Tears threaten to fall from my eyes as I watch him choke on his emotions.

“Thank you for this.” I squeeze him tightly into a hug.

“You have always been like a daughter to me. I’m so proud of you and I am honored to accompany you.” He gazes at me lovingly.

His words hit my heart. This whole day is going to make me an emotional mess. But Richard knows how much I long to have my parents with me. Knowing he could at least be by my side has made this bearable.

“Okay, okay. Enough waterworks. We best get walking or Nicholas might have a conniption.” I chuckle. I’ve been nervous and jittery all day. I can’t imagine how he feels.

“Mommy! You’re so pretty!” Jayden comes zooming in, looking dapper in his jeans, boots and vest. A tan, leather coat with wool fibers is thrown over his shoulders to keep him warm in the snowy outdoors. He looks so cute.

It has been a little over a month since Nick’s birthday. We decided to get married just before Christmas.

Richard offers me his arm just as I hear the music starting. The doors are opened as we begin to make our way down the aisle.

It’s perfect. Beautiful lights strung along a snowy path leading from Richard and Judy’s back doors. An altar stood at the very end covered in lights. But my eyes were immediately drawn to the man standing next to it.

His eyes never left me. First taking in my dress and appearance before locking onto my eyes. He was smiling widely, matching my own, and I could see the tears in his eyes.

All our family and friends were there supporting us. It was a small, intimate affair. I could see Judy dabbing her eyes with a tissue. Jayden was bouncing excitedly on Sadie’s lap for the moment he was called to bring the rings.

This is it. I would finally be married to the love of my life.

My dress flowed softly behind me as I made my way down the aisle. It was beautiful and I had fallen in love as soon as I tried it on. It flowed from just under my bust and hid my just barely noticeable baby bump. A white, faux fur shawl covered my shoulders keeping me a little warmer. Nick’s outfit was the same as Jayden’s since he wanted to match his daddy.

Nick and I both had tears running down our faces by the time Richard handed me over, but we didn’t care. It seemed like it was just the two of us.

I barely remember saying vows as I was totally enraptured by him.

It was time to begin our forever, and I couldn’t be happier I was spending it with him.

Nick’s POV

Why is this taking so long? I continued to pace anxiously in front of the altar while Sadie watched on in amusement. She loved seeing me nervous.

I just want to see her. No, I need to see her. I haven’t seen her since yesterday and I’m physically aching for her.

This is it. I’m finally marrying my soul mate. I would have done it a month ago if she had let me. But she wanted a ceremony and who was I to deny her? She holds my heart and my soul, completely.

My heart lurched as the door opened and Jay slipped out, looking exceptionally dapper. He was so excited when he found out he would have a job in the wedding. And I’m so proud that he wanted to look just like me.

He runs up to me wrapping his little arms around my legs before I pull him into my arms.

“Daddy, mommy is an angel.” He whispers in awe. I can feel my heartbeat quicken just thinking about how she looks.

“That she is, son. Why don’t you sit with Aunt Sadie before you get called to bring the rings? You remember what to do?” I set him down.

“Yes, Daddy.” He runs over to sit on Sadie’s lap just as I hear the music begin.

My head immediately snaps over as the doors open. A vision in white, my beautiful Spencer, steps through gracefully. My dad leading her proudly.

He was astonished and truly touched when she asked him to walk her down the aisle. I knew this time of year was hard for her. I asked if she would rather have the wedding another time. But she was determined. She wanted this time to be a happy memory from now on.

I let my eyes drift over her, watching as her dressed moved with every step she took. My eyes began to tear up, just knowing what was hiding under that belt of that dress. The belt that made it flair out just enough to make her bump unnoticeable. Our child.

I couldn’t get over how beautiful she looked. She truly did look like an angel. Stepping towards me to begin our future together. She’s all I’ve ever wanted. She’s all I’ll ever need. Just her, Jayden, and our future children.

The ceremony flew by as Spencer and I got lost in each other’s eyes. It’s like we could communicate without saying anything.

The after party was being held just inside my parents’ barn that they converted just for the wedding. It was heated and filled with lights and the dance floor. We had buffet style food so people could eat whenever they wanted to.

The part Spencer and I were waiting eagerly for, was cutting the cake. We had a special surprise in store. It was a beautiful two-tier cake. However, it was decorated with pink and blue flowers cascading from the top of it.

No one knew about the baby yet. Today, we reveal the gender.

I clinked my champagne glass drawing attention to us. Spencer and I were both drinking sparkling cider. I felt bad drinking when she couldn’t so I decided I wouldn’t touch any alcohol until she was able to have a drink again. I wanted to support her through this pregnancy in whatever way I could.

“I just want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who was either involved or came to support us. It means the world to me and Spencer.” I weave our fingers together and pull her more securely to my side.

“We wanted to cut the cake a bit early as there is a surprise hidden inside.” Spencer adds. Everyone begins to look quizzically at each other while Spencer and I have huge, face splitting smiles.

Spencer and I grabbed the knife together before making the first slice. After the cuts were made, we slowly take the piece from its spot before putting it on a plate.

I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing through the entire process. A half laugh and sob escaped me as Spencer gasped, tears forming in her eyes as we saw the color. We turned to our family, holding the plate, before screaming.

“We’re having a baby girl!” Everyone looked completely shocked before Sadie broke the silence it with a giant shriek. She lunged towards Spencer hugging her fiercely as applause began once everyone’s brains caught up.

My mom came up openly weeping, enveloping us in her arms and thanking the universe for this gift. Jayden took off his vest (we had already told him) and under was a white shirt saying, I’m going to be a big brother!

He was so excited.

I pulled Spencer into my arms before leaning down and laying a passionate kiss on her lips.

“A girl.” I whispered against her. She grinned and nodded.

“Guess you’re getting your badass cowgirl princess after all.” I grin.

“The first but definitely not the last.” I turned to walk towards my dad who was motioning for me.

“Wait, what?” Spencer called after me.

Five is a good number. Yes, I’m thinking five children.

“Nick!”

This is going to be an amazing journey.
