A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Annabelle greeted Benjamin with a smile. At the same time, she noticed Elizabeth standing behind him with a hostile look on her face. In an instant, her expression froze.
Perceiving her reaction, Elizabeth rolled her eyes and snorted at her.
However, someone immediately gave her a tight slap on the back of her head. Huffing in anger, she turned around to see Mary glowering at her.
That made her feel aggrieved. “Before this person showed up, I was the only girl in the family, and no one dared to do anything to me. She has just entered our house, and Mom has already hit me. I’m sure my life will be tough from this day onward,” she lamented inwardly.
She then turned around to look at her father, Timothy Walker, hoping that he would stand up for her. To her dismay, he did not even spare her a glance. Instead, he was taking a card out of his pocket to hand it to Annabelle.
Words failed Elizabeth at the moment.
“This isn’t a cute little bunny! She’s obviously a vixen, bewitching everyone once she arrives at our house!” she complained in her mind.
Meanwhile, Annabelle was flustered when she saw the card before her. “I can’t take their money!” she exclaimed internally.
“Take it! Every child in the family has one!” Timothy gave her no chance to reject it, shoving the card into her hand. With an amiable expression, he continued, “Since you married Lucas, you’re part of the Walker family. We’re family from now on So, there’s no need to be courteous with us!”
Susan chimed in, “That’s right. Since we’re family, we must be loving and helpful toward each other. Annabelle, if anyone bullies you, you must tell us. We’ll stand up for you!”
With that, she handed a brocade box to Annabelle and said, “This is a gift from your grandpa and me. Take it!”
There was a pair of emerald bracelets inside the box. With the rich green color, they were evidently of high quality. Anyone could tell that they were valuable at first glance.
Annabelle’s heart began to pound hard against her chest. Although she was somewhat sophisticated and had a lot of luxury handbags and jewelry, she was still startled by Donald and Susan’s gift.
“There’s no way I’ll dare to accept–such a valuable gift!” she thought.
Elizabeth was green with envy again. “I have been asking Grandma for them for a long time, but she refused to give them to me. Yet, she gave them away so readily?” she exclaimed in her mind.
Mary took a seat beside Annabelle and pushed the brocade box into the latter’s hands. “It’s a gift for you, so just take it. It’s not a big matter!”
“Thank you, Grandma, Grandpa, Dad, and Mom!” After some deliberation, Annabelle accepted the gift at last but was thinking of returning them to Lucas that night.
“Hmm, we have known each other, and we have also given her the gifts. As for the other things, we should give her some time and take it slow,” Mary mused. As she was afraid Annabelle might feel uneasy staying with them, she asked thoughtfully, “Are you tired? Do you want me to bring you to your room so that you can take a rest?”
Annabelle hesitated for a second before nodding obediently.
Seeing that, Mary quickly held her hand and brought her upstairs. While walking, she continued to share the structure of their household, “As Lucas‘ grandparents are well up in years and it’s inconvenient to take the stairs, their room is on the first floor. Timothy and I stay on the third floor, whereas our children stay on the second floor. Bette’s and Benny’s rooms are on the right side of the second floor, while Lucas‘ and their oldest brother’s rooms are on the left. My eldest son stays overseas, and he seldom comes back. We’ve already informed him about you and Lucas‘ marriage. He promised that he’ll come back as soon as possible.”
Annabelle could only smile at her awkwardly. In her opinion, the marriage between Lucas and her was just a temporary solution to her problem, yet the Walker family was making a big deal out of it. It made her feel embarrassed.
As a kind–hearted person, she felt incredibly guilty for troubling the Walkers. After all, she had promised Lucas to steer clear of each other back then. However, she was the one who did not keep her word now.
Upon recalling the man’s cold countenance when they registered their marriage, she felt apologetic to him. Despite that, she had no choice but to cling to him shamelessly until she gave birth to their child safely.
“I’ll give him back his freedom after that, she thought.
As Annabelle knew that she would part ways with Lucas one day, in the face of the Walker family’s cordiality, she could not bring herself to accept their kindness at ease.
However, she could not tell Mary to stop her eldest son from returning. Thus, all she could do was smile silently.

Chapter 14
Under Mary’s lead, Annabelle arrived at Lucas‘ room. His room was spacious, and there was a big hollowed–out screen that divided the space into two regions – the sleeping area and a small living area. Everything in the room was either black or white, which was very characteristic of him.
“Every time I enter his room, I could feel a sense of coldness overwhelming mel” Mary could not help but complain to Annabelle. She then continued, “However, now that he has a wife, he can’t continue with his old ways. Annabelle, if you don’t like anything in this room, change it as you wish. You can even find someone to renovate this room!”
Annabelle, who had fallen into a trance because of the cold color scheme of the room, only snapped back to her senses when she heard Mary’s words. After figuring out what the latter meant, she immediately shook her head and answered against her will, “No need! I’m satisfied with this room!”
It was a big lie. Annabelle was not the least bit satisfied with the room as she liked warm colors, pink in particular. However, she knew her place well. Having troubled Lucas a lot, she could not change his lifestyle arbitrarily anymore. At the very least, she would not make any changes to his room without his permission.
Mary put on a stern face and stated, “You can’t be like this!”
Upon hearing that, Annabelle grew nervous.
To her surprise, Mary held her hands and continued, “You’re his wife. You should be the one in charge of the household! Otherwise, Lucas will be uncontrollable.”
Annabelle was dumbstruck when she heard Mary’s words, and she could not say anything in response. Inwardly, however, she exclaimed, “I’m the one in charge of the household?”
She then quickly shook her head as she did not think she was capable of doing so.
“You…” At first, Mary wanted to persuade Annabelle but swallowed her words when she saw the latter’s anxious expression. “It’s okay if you don’t know how to do it. I can teach you afterward.”
Seeing Mary beaming at her, Annabelle met her gaze silently for a moment. At last, her face flushed as she said in a soft voice, “Thank you, Mom!”
At once, the older woman gushed in her mind, “My son sure is lucky to marry such a cute wife, eh?”
Initially, Mary should be satisfied to have three sons and a daughter. However, her beloved daughter, Elizabeth, had always regarded her second oldest brother, Lucas, as her idol. As a result, she refused to be an adorable girl and had the ambition to be a successful businesswoman. “Hmph! Bette doesn’t even act like a child in front of me; she always speaks to me stoically. It’s as if she’s worried she’d lose her masculinity!” Mary grumbled inwardly.
The soft–spoken and shy Annabelle instantly won her heart.
“Don’t mention it. We’re family. It’s nothing!” With that, Mary took Annabelle for a tour around Lucas‘ room. “This is the bathroom, and the closet is here. This looks like a bookshelf, but it’s actually a door that leads directly to the study across.”
After introducing every corner of the room, she sat down on the couch in the small living area with Annabelle and asked her with a smile, “Do you need me to unpack your luggage for you?”
Annabelle quickly shook her head and replied, “It’s okay… Mom. Thank you! I can do it myself.”
In truth, it felt awkward to call Mary “Mom” when she had just known her. However, the uneasiness in Annabelle’s heart seemed to have vanished when she saw her warm smile and recalled how the latter had been showing goodwill toward her. “Okay. I’ll leave you to it then. Have a good rest. I’ll call you again when it’s lunchtime,” said Mary before leaving the room.
