A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 13
Chapter 13-
“Which other Walker family in Dellmoor do you think would dare to claim that they are the Walker family?” Madeline smiled as she spoke.
There might be many families with the last name Walker in Dellmoor. However, there was only one Walker family that everyone always talked about – the wealthy, powerful, and prestigious Walker family that was at the top of the upper–class society.
Clang!
The car key in Ashley’s hands dropped to the floor. She slowly looked down at the car key that lay next to her feet as she murmured, “How’s that possible?”
“It’s sheer dumb luck!” Madeline did not realize that there was something amiss with her daughter and casually added, “Don’t concern yourself with that. After all, her marriage to the Walker family will only be beneficial to our family.” As for the kind of life Annabelle would lead in the Walker family, she could not care less.
After raising Annabelle for so many years and even marrying her off to the Walker family, Madeline felt she had gone above and beyond her duties as a mother, especially when becoming a Walker was something many would trade their lives for.
“You choose the kind of life you want to live. Whether it’s good or bad depends on your ability,” Madeline thought.
“Which… son?” Ashley summoned all her strength to regain her composure, but she could not stop her voice from turning hoarse.
“Lucas!” Madeline declared.
“Even though our family isn’t on the same social standing as the Walker family, everyone knows everything about the Walkers. Lucas might be the second son of the Walker family, but he’s now controlling the reins of power in his family. That’s why Annabelle is really lucky to be able to marry him. However, he must be cursed to be entangled with a woman like her,” she mused inwardly.
Ashley could no longer listen on and rushed out of the house without saying goodbye.
“No way! I’ll never allow them to get married!” she thought. “Annabelle’s such a fool. How can she be married to Lucas? Only someone as exceptional as I am is worthy of marrying Lucas!”
Ashley stomped on the accelerator along the drive and ran numerous red lights. When her car finally pulled up at City Hall, she saw Annabelle standing at the side in a daze with a marriage certificate in her hands but did not see the man she was looking for.
Sitting inside her car, Ashley stared at Annabelle intently. To be precise, she was staring at the paper in the latter’s hand, wondering if she was too late.
Annabelle failed to notice her sister’s arrival, merely looking at her newly–obtained marriage certificate dumbly. She had just turned from a single young woman into a married woman, yet her husband left her alone with his driver right after
registering their marriage.
However, she did not feel disappointed. After standing in a trance for a while, she took a deep breath and put her marriage certificate away. Then, she turned to the driver, who had been waiting for her silently, and said politely, “Let’s go.”
According to the message that was relayed to her by the driver, she would be moving into the Walker residence after collecting the marriage certificate.
Therefore, she needed to return home to pack her things.
The driver thoughtfully held the car door open for her and waited till she settled into her seat before closing the door and walking toward the driver’s seat at the front.
While she was packing her things, Annabelle felt quite at peace. Upon arriving downstairs with her suitcase in tow, she saw her mother and opened her mouth in an attempt to speak, but Madeline’s indifferent attitude deterred her from doing so. In the end, she headed out of the house without a word, dragging her suitcase along with her.
When the driver of the Walker family saw Annabelle, he scuttled toward her and took the suitcase from her. Just as she was about to enter the car, an ear–splitting screech from a braking vehicle was heard. In the next second, a familiar–looking car came to a grinding halt beside her.
Annabelle was stunned for a while before she met Ashley’s pair of scarlet red eyes.
“Annabelle, are you addicted to stealing my things?”
She could not hear Ashley but could understand her clearly.
However, she could not fathom how the latter could say those words.
“It was her appearance that messed up my life. How is it that I am stealing her things?” she thought.
“Mrs. Walker, you may get into the car now,” the driver said gently while holding the door open for Annabelle.

Upon returning to her senses, she smiled and thanked him before getting into the car.
Ashley did not alight from her vehicle, so the driver only nodded–at her as a greeting. Then, he got into the driver’s seat and drove steadily out of the Ross residence.
Throughout the entire journey, Annabelle contemplated Ashley’s matters and only became nervous belatedly when the car stopped at the gateway of a large compound.
“Have we arrived at the Walker residence?” she wondered..
As the driver drove into the compound after the gates were opened, she could see many people standing in a neat line at the entrance of the house from a distance.
For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
When they departed, the driver had contacted the Walker family. Contrary to Madeline’s expectations, the Walker family, at least the elders in that family, regarded the sudden marriage with utmost importance. Lucas‘ grandparents, Donald Walker and Susan Freeman, gathered everyone in the family to welcome Annabelle when they received the message from the driver. Regardless of how the others persuaded them, the elderly couple refused to wait inside the house. Lucas‘ parents found it acceptable because they understood how Donald and Susan felt. However, Elizabeth, the only daughter of the Walker family, was displeased.
She did not think Annabelle’s arrival warranted such a huge commotion as she believed the latter had planned and carried out an elaborate scheme to conceive her brother’s child.

Amongst the crowd who welcomed Annabelle, Elizabeth was the only one with a scowl on her face. The only reason she was there was that she wanted to see what her sister–in–law was made of.
What she saw astonished her.
A young woman dressed in a light pink puffer jacket with a beige–colored shapka on her head that had two furry balls dangling on both sides was staring at them timidly like a pitiful little bunny.
Elizabeth was stumped for words.
While she could barely maintain her scowl, the rest of her family already melted at Annabelle’s cuteness. Even her younger brother smiled foolishly and exclaimed, “My sister–in–law is so cute!”
Elizabeth was astonished.
“Are you Annabelle? You must be cold! Come in, quick!” Mary stepped forward and affectionately held Annabelle’s hands, which had probably turned chilly because of the cold weather or nervousness. Instantly, the former decided to introduce her to the family after they had entered the house instead of doing it right there and then.
The rest of the family did not think too much of it, entering the house together with Annabelle.
Elizabeth, however, rolled her eyes at what had just happened.
“Is there a need to be so over the top? This is not even welcoming a new daughter–in–law home. This is more like welcoming some bigshot,” she grumbled inwardly.
The moment she thought about how Annabelle had Lucas, who was an exceptional man, wrapped around her little finger, she resolved to maintain her hatred for Annabelle and make life difficult for her no matter how adorable the latter looked.
In the house, Annabelle removed her hat and coat with Mary’s help. Her belly bump was clearly visible as she was wearing a beige–colored knitted dress.
When Donald and Susan saw her belly bump, they were elated. “This is our great–grandchild!” They thought in glee.
Mary, who looked glamorous, led everyone into the living room. There, she introduced the members of the Walker family to Annabelle, starting with Donald, Susan, her husband, and herself.
Annabelle was originally so nervous that she could barely walk like a normal person. However, she gradually began to calm. down, probably because all the elders of the Walker family were smiling kindly at her.
As Mary introduced them, she greeted each member of the family.
“Don’t forget about me!” Seeing that everyone else was having a jovial time as though they had forgotten about him, Benjamin Walker quickly walked forward and introduced himself, “I’m Benjamin. Annabelle, you can call me Benny!”
