A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 11

Chapter 11
Nathan was startled by the beautiful woman’s reaction. He could not understand why she was so excited.
There was no way Mary could maintain her composure.
In her life, she gave birth to three sons and a daughter. Her eldest son was 29 years old, and her second son was 27 years old. Both of them did not even have close friends of the opposite gender, let alone have plans to get married. Her two younger children were the same.
She considered herself open–minded, so she never pressured them to get married. However, now that she had the reason to do so, she could not remain unruffled.
“Young man, don’t be afraid to speak up. I’ll definitely stand up for your sister and let Lucas take responsibility!”

Upon hearing that, Nathan shook his head as Annabelle did not plan on having Lucas take responsibility.
Mary noticed his hesitation, but she did not urge him. Instead, she pulled him to the coffee shop next door to continue the conversation.
After a while, he could no longer withstand her persuasion and told her everything.
“Helping her get out of the house will not solve the problem. Her parents will still be her parents. If they ask her to return home, she’ll have no choice but to obey. Being confined is only a small punishment. What if your parents arrange for your sister to marry someone else? Annabelle will be forced to live the rest of her life miserably. However, it will be different if she marries my son. The baby in Annabelle’s body is our family’s bloodline. At the very least, we won’t mistreat her for the sake of the baby.”
“Your family?” It was only then Nathan realized that he had forgotten to ask an important question.
He had told the woman in front of him everything about his sister without even asking who she was.
At that moment, he felt extremely frustrated and dejected. “I am indeed a useless idiot who can’t do anything right! I don’t even have the power to solve the problem of Anna’s confinement and have to resort to asking an outsider for help,” he thought.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself!” Mary chuckled in embarrassment. Then, she sat up straight and said seriously, “My name is Mary Johnson, and I am Lucas Walker’s mother!”
After hearing that, Nathan looked at the woman in front of him in shock, and his jaw dropped. “Am I considered lucky or unlucky? Is it okay to let her know about this?” he wondered.
“Don’t worry. We will never allow irresponsible people to be in the Walker family. Since Lucas was the one who caused this, he naturally has to take responsibility. We will visit your parents as soon as possible to have him admit to his mistake and ask for your sister’s hand in marriage.”
Dumbfounded, he pondered, “Is this going the way that Anna wants?”
Later, Nathan left Pearl Building in a daze. It was only after the taxi that was driving him arrived at his house did he regain his senses.
In an attempt to steady his nerves, he rubbed his face before he opened the door and entered the house. It was the weekend, so Braxton, Madeline, and Ashley were all home. They were chatting merrily in the living room when Nathan entered the house. All three of them were surprised to see him.
Madeline’s smile instantly disappeared. Then, she looked at him and asked coldly, “Weren’t you out to visit your sister? Why are you home so early?”
The resentment he had forced himself to suppress surfaced the instant he heard her casual remark. “How can she be so nonchalant about it?” he wondered.
“Mom, it is illegal to confine someone and take away their freedom!” Nathan uttered grimly as he looked at his mother. In truth, Annabelle could actually leave the Ross manor. However, she still cared about her parents and their pride, so she never considered resorting to such an extreme way to leave. His sister feared she would become enemies with Braxton and Madeline if that happened. It was not an outcome she wanted when they had pampered her for 28 years.
Madeline did not expect Nathan to bring up Annabelle’s confinement suddenly. Her face immediately darkened, and she snorted. “I am her mother. I forbid her from leaving the house because I am worried about her health. However, if she wants to leave, I can’t stop her. Doesn’t she have a phone? Can’t her computer connect to the internet? How am I taking away her freedom? Stop talking nonsense!”
“She has everything, but she still stays at the Ross manor obediently. Mom, have you ever wondered why? Or do you know the reason but choose to use it to your advantage?” At that instant, Nathan was beside himself with disappointment.
“Aren’t familial connections supposed to be Anna’s strongest support? Why is Mom using that as a way to hurt Anna?” he thought.
Madeline choked in anger. Clenching her teeth, she squeezed out, “You… Are you going against me as well?”

“Nathan, how can you speak to Mom like that?” Ashley, who had been quiet all the time, finally piped up. She gave a glance of disapproval to Nathan and helped Madeline sit down. In a gentle tone, she consoled, “Mom, Nathan is still young. There are many things that he doesn’t know about, so he can be easily fooled! He is not provoking you on purpose!”
“Stop trying to sow discord! Anna didn’t lie to me,” Nathan roared. At that moment, he had long forgotten about Annabelle’s reminder. “It is all your fault. We used to be a harmonious family, but everything changed after you came along! You are the bad guy!”
“Enough!” Braxton barked, his expression ugly. “What is with all this nonsense? Where are your manners?” With that, he glanced at Nathan and demanded somberly, “How can you talk to Ashley like that? Hurry up and apologize to her!”
Ashley looked pained, but she waved her hand generously and said, “It’s okay! I know that Nathan didn’t do it on purpose!”
Seeing her enduring the pain, Braxton and Madeline felt distressed.
With a darkened expression, Madeline looked at Nathan, who had been quiet, and yelled, “Nathan Ross, apologize to Ashley immediately!”
After Nathan said those words, he felt regretful for a moment. However, when he saw how caring his parents were toward Ashley, he thought about Annabelle, who was alone at the Ross manor, and he immediately straightened his neck in defiance. No matter what they said, he refused to apologize.
Infuriated, Braxton and Madeline wanted to hit him, but Ashley stopped them. She even pushed Nathan, who was still grumpy, up the staircase before mollifying her parents in a soft voice.
Seeing that Braxton and Madeline had calmed down, Ashley asked anxiously, “Maybe… I shouldn’t have returned?”
Madeline instantly became agitated. With reddened eyes, she hurriedly replied, “We are your parents, and this is your home. Where else should you be other than here?”
When Ashley heard her words, she could no longer restrain her feeling of grievances and fell into her mother’s embrace. In a tearful voice, she said, “I just think the peace in our family has disappeared since my return! Anna, she…”
“She brought that upon herself!” Madeline interrupted. Then, she gritted her teeth and said, “It has nothing to do with you. It is her fault for not having self–respect. She fooled around and got pregnant with a bastard child. Thus, she has to face the consequences herself.”
She thought, “I admit that I planned everything. I gave her phone and computer, forbade her from leaving the house, and refused to let her visit the obstetrics. This way, she’ll learn the consequences for disrespecting and disobeying me.”
“Mom, don’t be mad. Sooner or later, Anna will realize her mistakes. Don’t get too worked up. It’s not good for your health!” When Ashley saw that Madeline was so furious that she could not breathe normally, she ignored her own sadness and comforted her, “Once she recognizes her mistakes, you should ask her to come home. After all, we can’t let her stay at the Ross manor forever! In the end, a woman should find and marry a reliable man!”
