“Sir, I don’t know you. You probably got the wrong person.” Calla immediately pretended

not to know Mercer.

Mercer glared at her without saying anything for a few seconds.

Calla felt like his gaze was very sharp. It was like a knife that instantly pierced through her clothes and saw right through her.

For some reason, the memories of the night of passion they shared came back to her. Her cheeks were flushed immediately.

“You’re so heartless. You forgot about me as soon as you pulled up your pants? Have you forgotten about all the fun we had?”

Mercer brushed his fingers through her hair and looked at her with a taunting look.

Then, the elevator arrived at the 20th floor.

Calla felt like she had been humiliated. So, she raised her hand and slapped him in the

face.

Mercer didn’t expect her to slap him, so he was stunned. Before he could snap out of it, Calla shoved him with all her strength and pushed him out of the elevator.

Then, she walked out of the elevator and ran away. She was still a little shaken as she sat in her chair in the finance department.

She kept thinking to herself, “Please don’t let me run into that gigolo again.”

She was completely disgusted by gigolos at that point.

Alicia came up to her and whispered, “How can you be late on the first day? You’re lucky that our new manager, Derek Connaught, is at a meeting. Or else you would’ve been reprimanded.”

Calla sighed in relief when she heard that. It seemed like she was pretty lucky.

Simon noticed the swelling on Mercer’s face the moment he stepped into his office.

“What happened to your face, Mr. Garland?” Simon asked in surprise.

“Move the new employees‘ meeting to tomorrow. I have something else to do today.” Mercer didn’t answer his question.

“What?” Simon was stunned.

‘Go inform everyone else.” Mercer’s temper flared up when Simon stood there without moving.

“Yes, sir.” Simon left the office after he said that.

“Bring me some ice!” Mercer called out as Simon walked to the door.”

“Yes, sir.” Simon quickened his steps and walked away.

Mercer stayed in his office the entire day. He had cleared out his schedule for the day.

Only Simon entered the office a few times to hand him some things. He saw Mercer applying ice to his face. He had the urge to laugh but didn’t dare to do it.

He secretly wondered who would dare slap Mercer’s face.

Derek entered the office in the afternoon. He scanned the employees in the finance department.

Then, he said sternly, “I hope the new employees and the older ones can work hard together and do a good job.

“Also, I hereby announce a personnel appointment. Calla will serve as the assistant. manager of the finance department, effective immediately.”

Calla raised her head abruptly and widened her eyes. She couldn’t believe what she just heard.

Derek smiled at her. “Work hard. Do not betray the company’s trust in you. Okay, everyone. Get back to work!”

Derek went to his own office after he said that.

Alicia immediately went up to Calla and whispered, “Hey, why have you been so lucky. recently?”

Calla stroked her belly joyfully and whispered back, “My baby must be bringing me good. fortune.”

Alicia smirked. “I just heard about some incredibly satisfying news.

“What is it?”

“Peggy has been assigned to the front desk at the lobby.”

Calla was stunned for a moment, then she smiled. “She finally got what she deserves.”

Working the front desk wasn’t an easy job. She would have to greet people coming and going every day. She could never slack off because upper management might walk past her at any moment.

She could be fired for the smallest mistakes. The benefits weren’t great either. Usually,

the female interns were the ones who did that job.

“I bet she will resign after a few days and go back to working as an insurance agent,”

Alicia said.

“That suits her,” Calla said expressionlessly.

“That’s right. She’s just like her whore of a mother. They’re great at selling insurance to men. They manage to get their clients to get a divorce every time,” Alicia said with a raised eyebrow before walking away.
