Chapter 141

Callá stopped a few steps away from Mercer and Sophie. She watched as the smiling saleswoman behind the counter introduced their products.

“Sir, miss, are you choosing wedding rings? We house world–renowned brands, top–notch designs, and premium diamonds.”

“I’d like to see this one,” Sophie said, pointing to a ring in the display case.

“Miss, you have excellent taste. This eight–arrow and eight–heart design symbolizes a perfect match. The main stone is 4.5 carats of pure quality. It’s our store’s treasure.

“It’s been here for over a year without a buyer because it’s so expensive,” the saleswoman explained while smiling brightly.

Call understood they were here to buy wedding rings. It looked like they were already preparing for the wedding. Her days as his wife were numbered!

Calla stared at Mercer’s profile for a few seconds before quickly turning to Alicia.

Alicia tried to console her, “Calla, let it go. He’s not meant for you.”

“Don’t worry. I have no feelings for him. Why would I be upset?” Calla sneered, then pointed to the diamond necklace Alicia had admired earlier. She told the saleswoman, “I’ll take this one!”

She then handed over a credit card to the saleswoman.

Seeing Calla about to buy a necklace worth 100,000 dollars, Alicia whispered, “Are you crazy? That necklace is so expensive.”

“Someone else is paying for it. It’s the last time, so I might as well treat myself.” Calla forced a smile, though she knew how heartbroken she felt inside.

Soon, the transaction was complete. Calla didn’t glance at the couple again. She took the card and necklace, then pulled Alicia out of the department store.

Meanwhile, Sophie put on the luxurious diamond ring. She looked up at Mercer with a smile and asked, “Mercer, what do you think?”

Mercer didn’t even glance at the ring on her finger. With a stern face, he questioned, “Didn’t you ask me for a birthday gift? How did it turn into buying rings?”

“…I was only looking. I didn’t mean to buy it.” Sophie hurriedly took off the ring and handed it back to the saleswoman. Her disappointment was evident.

The saleswoman took back the store’s treasure and placed it back in its original place. She pursed her lips and her expression showed disdain.

At this moment, Mercer received a text message. He looked down at his phone, frowned, and started looking around.

“Mercer, what’s wrong?” Sophie stepped forward to ask.

“Take this card. The password is my birthday. You can pick any gift within 100,000 dollars.” Mercer shoved a bank card into Sophie’s hand and turned to leave in a hurry.

“Mercer, where are you going?” Sophie called after him, but he didn’t look back. He walked quickly toward the mall’s exit.

Alicia accompanied Calla into a cab, which quickly merged into traffic.

“Sorry, I wanted to take you out to cheer you up. But I ended up making you unhappy instead,” Alicia said, feeling guilty.

“Don’t be silly. It’s not your fault.” Calla forced a smile.

“It makes me angry just thinking about it. We should have gone over there and taught that vixen a lesson!” Alicia said, cracking her knuckles.

Calla didn’t respond to Alicia’s words. If they had gone over, she figured she would have been the one humiliated instead of Sophie.
