When fate plays its hand Chapter 750

Chapter 0750

Sophie sneered, “Go ahead. If I go down, you won’t get away unscathed either!”

“Fine, I’ll go right now…!

“Tina, have you forgotten how you even got into graduate school?”

Tina stopped in her tracks as Sophie chuckled. “You didn’t make it originally. If I hadn’t let you in through the backdoor, do you think you’d even be standing here now?

“Go ahead and report me. I won’t stop you. We’ll all go down together. If I’m fired, you’ll also be exposed as a fake graduate student who bribed her way into graduate school through corrupt means. Sounds fair, right?”

Tina was trembling with rage. “You vile old witch!”

“Vile?” Sophie scoffed, “You’re no better yourself.”

Without extra credit from research, Tina’s grades in her final exam were abysmal. She failed three courses, and her average score for the rest of her coursework was around 70.

Her grades were so laughably bad that even Hank, the lap dog, scored better than her!

Whenever Evelyn asked about her final exam grades, Tina stammered a vague answer until she couldn’t keep it hidden any longer and finally told the truth.

Not only was Evelyn obsessed with higher education, but she also had a fixation on grades. In her mind, since her exceptional daughter had made it into Bedford College’s graduate program, exams should naturally be a breeze for her. Unexpectedly…

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Evelyn exclaimed.

Tina panicked and made up an excuse. “The final exams for the professional courses were really difficult this time! A lot of people didn’t do well, not just me.”

“What about Miranda?”

Tina didn’t have a response.

“Answer me!”

“She got perfect scores.”

Evelyn was at a loss for words.

Lately, Yasmine hadn’t been doing well either.

First, dealing with Sophie was incredibly difficult. She tried to be as cautious as possible around her, but she still ended up being scolded every time. Even after getting scolded, she didn’t dare to cry.

Sophie was her aunt, yet she didn’t even treat her as a person.

Secondly, she had no way to produce any academic output…

The lab was under rectification, and she didn’t dare claim Joli’s thesis as her own. After all, it was impossible for her to draft a thesis out of thin air, no matter how talented she was, now that no one could use the lab.

Moreover, Joli’s own research project was on hold. He couldn’t produce any papers either.

Luckily, Yasmine still had a few earlier papers to fall back on, so her final exam grades were much better than

Tina’s.

However, that wasn’t a long–term solution. Without new research papers, how could she maintain her reputation as a genius girl?

She messaged Joli, but he ignored her. She went to complain to Sophie several times, only to get a harsher scolding.

Now that the college was officially on winter break, most of the postgraduate students chose to stay back in order to keep up with their research projects. Everyone else had labs they could use and projects in hand, except for them

They stayed back in college, but there was nothing to do. They were like strays wandering the streets without a home to return to.

Yasmine had tried suggesting to Sophie that they might as well let everyone go home since the lab was still under renovation. After all, there was nothing to do here anyway.

Unsurprisingly, this led to another scolding by Sophie. “Is this all you amount to? If you want to go back to that small county town, you shouldn’t have applied to Bedford College back then!

“I gave you so much recognition, titles, and even taught you how to fight for resources. Yet, now you’re telling me you want to go home?”

That time, Yasmine left in tears. What was so wrong with wanting to go home? Would they have done better if they wandered around the college doing nothing and wasting time?

Unfortunately, Yasmine could only scream these words inwardly as she didn’t dare to say them out loud.

Among the team, the one who had it easiest was none other than Willow.

She wasn’t like Tina, who had to do everything possible to get a spot in a research group. Nor was she like Yasmine, who needed continuous academic output to maintain her fake persona as a genius.
