Chapter 13 - Part 2, Battle of Blue moon.
I know at points of the night I had been nodding in and out of sleep and I know I wasn’t the only one when I could hear a faint snore here and there or someone all of a sudden jerking themselves awake...
The sun was peeking through the sky now, I decided to sit up and coupe in the tree to stop myself from feeling too relaxed and tired. I took out Matt’s phone to see it was now 5.00am, the birds were suddenly chirping away luckily not too close to us so it couldn’t deter our hearing. There was a slight mist in the air this morning proving today was going to be cloudy and foggy. It was still really humid though and at a moment like this I wish it had been autumn or winter cause at least we wouldn’t all feel so hot and suffocated in our armor, I could feel beads of sweat dripping down the back of my neck and from my hairline all the way down the side of my face and I had barely even moved yet.
I was just leaning on my knee when I felt a sudden chill whip through me and a faint smell of dirt mixed with sweat, blood and damp like old musky water. That smell was too recognizable, I knew what it was and as my eyes widened in alarm, I turned to Matt and held my fist up to signal him, they were here! even though we were a little distanced from each other I could see his face fall just for a mere second when he managed to regain himself. As I was not part of a pack anymore I couldn’t mind link anyone if there was more than a few yards of distance between us and Heath was too far for me to connect with, So Matt did it instead, He’d mind linked Heath and all of their Pack warriors, Heath would then warn Layton and the other Alpha’s that had joined our fight… in turn they would all warn the warriors from all of their packs.
I turned from Matt to face the forest again, I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and listened for every sound and I could sense… them growing closer and at a quick pace, like a slow jog.
As I reopened my eyes I could see silhouettes in between the trees ahead, when they gradually became more and more visible by the second and I could tell who were men and women, what colour hair they had, what they were wearing... they were all dressed shabbily like your typical rogues, ripped trousers and some of them with their torso’s bare, their clothes were ripped and looked as though they’d been overworn and now threadbare, dirty and blood stained… guessing from all their brutal training and hunting!
By now the warriors behind me would be able to sense and see them too, I waited for the right moment, I wanted them just below us so we could attack unexpectedly from above. I pulled up my hood put on my mask and held up my fist in view of Matt again and held my fingers up straight. As they got closer, I put each finger down counting down from five to one to attack...3-2-1... I slid off the branch and let myself drop, and the warriors followed suit. Taking out my sword mid-air, one by one we all landed on top of the rogues. Our landing alone broke the necks and backs of the ones we landed on and within seconds I was slicing and cutting flesh, the blood splattering across my armor and the trees around us.
Blood covering the faces of the rogues trying to attack. I didn’t stop, I didn’t dare stop for a moment or slow down, sliding and moving from here to there before they could catch me, slicing one after another, cutting the stomach of one and the neck of the next. As I sliced the back legs of a rogue readying to lunge at a warrior, I spun around, grabbed a dagger and hurled it at the rogues back. When he fell to the floor I ran to him, relieving him of my dagger and using it to stab another as I sliced with my sword in one hand and stabbed with my dagger in the other simultaneously.
As bodies dropped around me I looked for a second to see the rogues we were fighting were only a small number, perhaps no more than 100-150, I looked to the right of our fight in the distance to see a throng of rogues running toward the boarder where everyone else was waiting unable to see them coming and even unable to see our fight, maybe if they saw we were only a small number they could anticipate more coming from the right..
I swiped my sword across more torso’s as I fought my way through the crowd of bloodied rogues when I caught sight of Yen... “YEN” I called ”THEYRE GOING TO ATTACK FROM THE RIGHT”… He glanced quickly to the right and I saw his eyes fade over to mind link Heath to warn him. I ran to Yen to protect him while he was partially blind, I had only had to kill a couple before his eyes were back to normal and resumed his fighting!
Our small fight was subsiding and the rogues that were still alive were starting to run to join the others that were heading toward the pack from the right… ”HEAD BACK TO THE BOARDER" I shouted to the warriors that were still alive and from my brief view it looked as though most of them were still intact and ok. They turned around in anger and hurried to the boarder. Mitch quickly glanced back to see me still in my place his brows frowned in confusion “I’ll hold the rest off” I told him then I swung my sword to the last remaining few that were headed toward me.
They looked at me menacingly and wide smirks on their faces which only gave me more courage and made me feel rather cocky as I laughed inwardly to myself… ”they don’t know who they’re fucking with”, I held my stance and when they came in, I swiped, left right, across their faces, daggers pulled out to stick in their chests and to throw at their heads as they tried to take me down. I double flipped back to put space between us. I high kicked the one that got to me first and swung my sword to another on my right.
I dropped to my knee and spun as I sliced the legs off the last one standing, his claws just barely missing my face before he crumpled to the floor in pain. I ran to the bodies that still had my daggers stuck in their flesh and removed them all, not bothering to wipe their blood off I stuck all the daggers back in my sheath as I hurriedly ran toward the boarder. Now that I wasn’t fighting, I could hear the battle ahead. Screams, roars, the ground vibrating with the pounding of feet, wolf paws and bodies falling to the floor.
I got to the edge of the boarder as I saw the fight before me. It was something that could render even the toughest person speechless and shaken with fear! It was the stuff made of nightmares. Blood pooled the ground, body against body slammed against each other as Some fought in human form and others as their wolves, tearing flesh and ripping necks. I could spot the rogues skinny wolf bodies and matted fur compared to the broad, muscular and tall warrior wolves and all of a sudden ahead of me I saw Gabel, a sword in one hand and an axe in the other as two rogues lunged at him, one at his back and one on his front. My adrenaline rushed through like a surge of venom, my whole body shook with anger and a thirst for the fucker’s blood! My feet took off into a run as I held my sword firmly beside me, I kicked off the ground and jumped high, coming down hard, I took my sword in both hands and swung it through the head of the rogue on Gables back before it could tear into his neck. Gabel punched the rogue on his front, and I pulled my sword out of the fucker’s head and quickly sliced it across the other rogue’s neck, I sliced so deep, his head was practically rolling off, holding on only by the bone.
Gabel looked to me, but I quickly turned away and fought through the collision of cut and bloodied bodies. The metallic copper smell of everyone’s blood stung the air and stained the ground beneath our feet. One body after another being swiped by my sword and stabbed by my daggers. My hands now covered in warm blood, my once black armor now looked more maroon. My hair that was hanging loosely out of my hood was soaking wet and clumped with sweat and blood. If anyone was watching right now, I’d guess they would believe no amount of rain, snow or thunderstorms could wash away the blood the was being spilled all around us.

Time passed by as the sounds of thrashing, roars and skin being torn was deafening, more and more enemies and warriors falling to their death.
But the sounds started to lull as I kicked a rogue that was hanging off my sword, his body flew and heavily hit the ground. I took a second to take in my surroundings, to look for anyone that was outnumbered and needed help, there were dead bodies littering the ground, almost unrecognizable as if they didn’t even have faces or full bodies. I could see the broad bodies and the armor of many warriors still standing taking down the last of the determined rogues.
My eyes caught a glimpse just ahead of me in the treeline where our land met the forest, there was a skinny figure under a black cloak with a black hood, blonde hair falling out of it. I squinted my eyes as the figure started to run in the other direction, I quickly moved and darted toward the way the person had gone, I ran through the treeline and caught sight of it hurrying through the trees. I sped up toward it and taking a dagger out of my sheath, I aimed for its calf and tossed it, causing the person to fall on their front, face down into the dirt. I heard a yelp, and it was definitely a female. although the blonde hair was already a giveaway. I ran over and grabbed her by the arms I flung her onto her back slamming my knee onto her chest, so she was trapped but the face before me shook me to my core and my blood ran cold as my eyes widened in disbelief, my mouth agape. ”What the fuck are you doing here Zara? You could never fight for shit, so tell me why your here and not in hiding with the rest of the villagers?” My hands went to her shoulders as I pinned her down threateningly, my body tensed when I caught her scent, she smelt of rogue.
“who the fuck are you?” she groaned under the pressure of my knee. I pulled down my mask for her to see who I was.
“How the fuck are you even still alive?” she scorned at me, her face curled up into a look of disgust. I pulled up, taking my hands off of her shoulders, threw my arm back then slammed a hard punch into her snidey skinny face knocking her out. I ripped off a piece of her cloak and tied her hands together. Grabbing a piece of the materiel in between her wrists I dragged her along behind me, taking her back to the pack.
Pulling my mask back on, as I got the grounds, I could see that the battle had ended, and warriors drenched in blood were walking amongst the dead bodies checking for any that were still alive. I glanced up to the sun to see it was high in the sky which must mean it was now mid-day, I looked back to the men and women when I saw familiar faces looking at me with relieved smiles, Heath and Adeena both held each other’s bloodied hands as they quickly made their way over to me and I felt a wave of relief to see they had both survived.
"We couldn’t see you, we were scared you were hurt” Adeena said with watery eyes, I could see her petite frame was slightly shaking, now the fighting had stopped the reality of what we had all done was obviously setting on her just like it would with the rest of us.
I shook my head ”no, I had to go after a traitor” I spoke through gritted teeth as I tugged at the cloth on the bitch’s hands behind me.
I caught glimpse of Gabel a few yards behind Heath and Adeena “excuse me” I went to move past them but gave them a quick grateful look ”you have no idea how relieved I am that you’re both ok” then I looked away and headed toward Gabel.
He turned to face me as I dropped Zara’s body next to me on the floor. He looked at me then to her ”She’s a traitor… she was involved in the attack" I informed him angrily, his eyes widened in shock and fury and his jaw clenched as he stared at her, when two men approached and stood beside him “Alpha” Gabel spoke ”It seems we had a traitor all along… our enemy has been bought to us"
My eyes widened at the title Alpha that Gabel spoke and the hairs on the back of my neck shot up, my eyes went to one of the men who came up next to Gabel and it was Layton... Layton! My heart dropped through my body and into the ground, my breathing hitched as I took in the man before me who had looked at Zara and frowned, then looked to me, he eyed me up and down, trying to figure out who this warrior was that was wearing their armor. “That woman is Zara Maven” his voice boomed deep through his lungs his strong aura radiated around him. His big chest rising and falling with each deep angry breath he took “what is your name warrior?”
My eyes flickered and my heart jumped at his question when I heard a sudden whine of pain, my eyes went to the place it was coming from when I saw a light brown wolf with a gold tail lying on the floor ahead of me, its paws twitching, my face falling in fear. I forgot where I was as I ran to it, knowing who’s wolf it was. My legs felt like jelly as I dropped to my knees beside her and held her furry face in my hands, her eyes flickering open to look at me as she whined in pain.
“D” I whispered “stay strong...” I looked to a dead body close by and quickly tore of a piece of cloth that was part of their blood stained t- shirt and I pressed it against Dakota’s wound just by her ribs, her eyes widened as she stared at me her whining increasing, she tried to move her head closer to me, so I lowered my face to hers and let her touch my face with her snout, then I looked into her eyes. I felt myself wanting to hold her and cry all the tears that I felt, as if they were locked in my throat cutting off my air supply… she knew...she knew it was me!
“DAKOTAAAA....BABYYY...... WHERE ARE YOUUU” I heard whimpered screams. My face shot up to see Sam, his face looked tortured as he was trying to find Dakota then he looked my way and saw her wolf on the floor, he was just about to run over when his eyes clocked me. I looked from him to the others that I now realized had been watching me the whole time, their suspicious confused eyes on me.
I looked to Heath who nodded. I quickly pressed my face to Dakota’s snout again as Sam was now running over to where we were. I let go of her face and ran… I ran as fast as my legs could go, back beyond the trees until I climbed up a tree that separated the forest from the pack’s boarder, one that was almost outside their territory. If they came I could leave, only a few yards in front of me did their land end and they wouldn’t have any authority over me.
It wasn’t till I finally sat down on a thick branch that I allowed myself to exhale the breath I hadn’t realized I had been holding onto. I unstrapped my sheath, unzipped my armor to get some air and stretched out my legs out in front of me and leant against the tree’s trunk as my shaky breaths passed through my body.
In the space of a few minutes, I had seen so much and felt so much emotion. Dakota, Sam, Layton and Gabel all in one moment! My body felt as if it was weighed down with feelings I couldn’t understand... the pain and anguish of how much I had missed them aching in my stomach like I had just been sucker punched.
