Chapter Chapter Seventeen- Kira
Albeit it seemed like I had the simpler task- go and retrieve my parents, it seemed all the harder. Eva had dropped me off at the airport, and now... how would my parents react? Would they be proud? Regretful? Sorry for hiding this secret? Or would they simply not care, like they had done before. Or was that all a facade... there were so many questions, and I didn’t even know where to start. Anyways, I was at the airport, with only a vague idea of where to go. Of course, I knew the destination my parents had given me- France, Europe, but that wasn’t exactly detailed. Who knew… maybe it was all a cover and my parents were somewhere in Egypt fighting century-old mummies? So far, we had received a mix of fortune and correct calculation, but there was no knowing when luck would run out. However, perhaps France at least had some records that would lead to my parents… The false documentation, along with a false birth certificate, allowed me to pass security with no drawbacks. If anyone noticed that I did not look like I was 23, which was stated in my documents, they did not comment. It was a wonder, what courtesy could do nowadays…
I boarded my plane, found my seat, and sat down for the ride. Perhaps it would have been conspicuous is I had gotten on with no luggage, and therefore me and Eva had stopped at her house and thrown some things into a suitcase, to make things seem more realistic. We couldn’t risk discovery, not now. As the plane took off, part of me wondered what Lance would do. Although I hoped he would be found, we had no time for it… meaning the time could be found, but he wasn’t exactly priority anymore. Not after he started judging people by what they are, not who, and decided his friends didn’t fit acceptable parameters. Although it didn’t seem to be just that. Perhaps there was something more… Before discovery, he had been a lot less tense. Something must’ve happened inside his head when Eva revealed the results of her surgery, and the voice inside her head. Except I didn’t know what…
The rest of the ride was uneventful. I was served disgusting airplane food and spend most of my time deep in a book about hacking and permanently changing lock screens. Quite interesting, although the concept was simple nevertheless. The plane touched down without a hitch, and I proceeded to think what to do. Something I noticed about the plans- they were never thought through all that well. However, in most cases the ‘heroes’ always had an organization backing them, or at least some practice in the superhero department. Us… no. So here I was, in a foreign city, and I didn’t know where to start. However, I did have a slight idea.
First, I checked into some non-descript inn. I didn’t know how long I would be in France, and therefore it wouldn’t hurt to err on the side of caution, especially with the false credit card I had provided to me. Next, I sat down at my laptop (which I grabbed from my house during the escape- wherever I went, it went) and started riffling through criminal databases. If my parents were doing nothing with their abilities, they wouldn’t have any reason to disappear so often. On the flip side, if they were doing something, they would most likely be next to hotspots of criminal activity. Therefore, I started searching through the files of people who had committed infractions against the law, specifically focusing on how they had been discovered. Although all the reasons seemed realistic, I soon started to realize a chain of events. The criminals who had been caught during the times my parents were away, corresponding to where they my parents had stated they were going, always contained some sort of anonymous tip-off or some sort of ambush. Unnatural… therefore, I knew my parents were not lying about their destination- they indeed were in France. I had a lead…
