Unsuitable

: Chapter 33

I can hear buzzing. For a moment, I think I’m back in prison, hearing the morning buzz that came right before my cell door would open, giving me that momentary freedom. The buzzing stops, but the click never comes.

And then I register the warm, hard body pressed against my back.

Kas.

Memories of last night flood my mind.

We had sex. Lots of sex. Insatiable, crazy, hot sex until we passed out in each other’s arms.

And, now, I’m here with his chest pressed up against my back. His legs tangled with mine. His arm slung around my waist. His hand possessively pressed against my stomach.

A smile lifts my lips. Happiness that I never thought I would ever feel spreads through me.

Then, I hear the buzzing again.

What is that?

Reluctantly, I move, turning in Kas’s arms, rousing him slightly. He lets out a sleepy groan as he rolls onto his back, pulling his arm from me.

I see his phone flashing and vibrating on the nightstand. I peer over a little further to see who’s calling. The display reads, Gate.

Gate?

It takes me a good few seconds to realize that it’s not someone called Gate, but that it’s actually someone buzzing at the main gates of the house.

Duh.

Instead of waking him, I decide to answer the call. I reach over and sweep up his phone. Pressing Accept, I say, “Hello?”

“Daisy, is that you? It’s Toby. I’m here for our appointment.”

Uh…Toby? Appointment!

Holy shit!

He rescheduled our appointment last week because he couldn’t make our usual day.

My probation officer is here. And I’m naked and in bed with Kas.

I’m so done for.

“Yes.” The word comes out sounding strangled. I clear my throat. “I’ll-I’ll buzz you in. Just give me a sex—I mean, sec! Give me a second.” I hang up the phone. “Kas!” I shake him.

His eyes flick open, startled and wide-awake. “Wha—”

“Toby is here for my appointment.”

He’s blinking rapidly, as though trying to process this information. I try not to get caught up on how adorable he looks in this moment with his hair all disheveled and this cute furrow of confusion on his brow.

I somehow don’t think Kas would appreciate being called adorable.

“My probation officer,” I say to speed up the process even though he knows who Toby is.

“I thought he came on—”

“He does normally,” I cut him off. “But he changed the day, and I forgot! Crap! We’re naked, and he’s out there.”

Kas’s eyes flash to the closed door of his bedroom, as though he expects Toby to be waiting on the other side.

“Outside the main gate,” I clarify.

He pushes himself up to sit. “Have you let him in?”

I find myself momentarily distracted by his bare chest and the muscles rippling over his pecs.

God, he’s hot.

“Daisy?”

“Mmhmm?”

“Have you buzzed him in?”

My eyes lift to his grinning ones. “Um…shit, no.” I blink. “Your phone was vibrating, and when I saw it was the gate, I answered. I need to go downstairs and buzz him in.”

“No need.” Kas takes his phone from my hand. He swipes the screen and then does something. “Gates are open,” he tells me.

“You let him in? But I’m naked!” I jump out of bed.

A low chuckle rumbles from him. “I can see that.”

I flush as his eyes slowly move over the length of me, making me blush.

“Stop it.” I can’t help the smile that forms on my mouth.

Kas’s lips tip up into a sexy grin. “I’m not doing anything. Yet.”

He reaches out and trails his index finger up my thigh, making me shiver.

I swat his hand away. “Behave. I have to get dressed. He’ll be at the front door in less than five minutes.”

He gives me a disgruntled look, which I choose to ignore.

I start running around, picking up my clothes and pulling on my underwear.

Kas is just sitting in bed, watching me, hands behind his head, like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

But then I guess he doesn’t. It’s not his probation officer who’s currently walking down the driveway and toward the front door.

Clothes on, I run into his bathroom.

Jesus, I have sex hair! It’s all mussed up.

I run my hands through it, trying to smooth it down. When I spy one of Kas’s hair ties on the sink, I borrow it and fasten my hair up into a messy bun.

I grab his toothpaste, squeeze some onto my index finger, and rub it over my teeth. Not the best way to clean my teeth but needs must.

“You could have used my toothbrush.” Kas comes up behind me, pressing his still very naked body against mine. His hands slide around my stomach.

Leaning forward, I spit in the sink, pushing my bum back against him. I feel him press up nice and hard against me, and my lady parts wake up to say hello.

Down, girl. My probation officer is on his way.

I grab the mouthwash and take a swig. I swish it around my mouth and spit it out. Finally, I respond to him, “I’m not going to use your toothbrush.” I run the tap, clearing the sink out.

“Why not?”

Meeting his eyes in the mirror, I say, “Um, because that’d be gross.”

“You’ve had this mouth”—he points a finger to his sexy and incredibly talented mouth—“and tongue”—he sticks it out, making me shiver—“on and inside your pussy, tasting you and making you come, for the best part of the night. You’ve had my cock in your gorgeous mouth. But using my toothbrush would be gross? Sure, that makes sense, babe.” He cocks a brow.

Holy Jesus.

I’m practically on fire. Burning up, I’m ready to drop to my knees and take him back in my suddenly watering mouth.

“Toothbrushes clean teeth.” My voice catches, and I clear my throat. “Tongues—”

“Lick,” he whispers. He gives me a good demonstration of what that magical tongue of his can do when he runs it over the pulse on my neck, sending my nerve endings screaming and making my knickers wet. Then, his teeth start to nip at my neck.

“Kas,” I say, but it comes out more like a moan. “We can’t…”

“He can wait. I can’t. I want you now.” One arm tightens around me while his other hand finds my face and turns it to the side. He kisses me. Lush and wet and deep.

I start to fall into him and the moment. He’s so goddamn addictive. I can’t get enough.

Okay, maybe Toby can wait.

His hand slides down my stomach and to the button on my jeans.

That’s when the piercing sound of the doorbell breaks the moment.

He sighs into my mouth.

I tip my head back. “Rain check?”

He rumbles out a sound of assent. Then, he releases me.

His hand swats my bum on the way out. I flash him a grin over my shoulder.

Then, I bolt down the stairs to answer the door. I swing it open. “Hey. Sorry. I was upstairs…cleaning…the toilet.”

Cleaning the toilet? Why couldn’t I have said I was cleaning the bath or shower? I guess the saving grace is that I didn’t say I was just cleaning the inside of Kas’s mouth with my tongue.

“Hi, Daisy.” Toby smiles at me.

Returning his smile, I step aside, letting him in. I close the door behind us.

I lead the way to the kitchen where we usually have our appointment.

“Coffee?” I ask.

Toby takes his usual seat at the kitchen table. “Please.”

I set about making coffee, wondering if Kas will want some.

He’ll probably come down. But he might be showering right now.

Wet Kas. Naked, wet Kas.

And, now, my mind is running wild with a naked Kas and all the things we did last night and all the things he did to me.

I can feel my skin start to burn up.

Stop thinking sex thoughts about Kas, or Toby will notice that something is off.

“So, how is everything?” Toby asks me.

“Great!” The word squeaks out, so I go for a quick subject change. “Biscuits?” I ask him.

“You know me”—he chuckles—“can’t say no to a biscuit.”

Yeah, just like I can’t say no to a very hot Greek man upstairs. Not that I’d ever want to say no to Kas. God, the things that man can do with his tongue.

As if conjuring him up, he appears in the kitchen. Barefoot, wearing light-blue jeans and a gray V-neck sweater, his hair damp from the shower. He looks seriously hot.

“Good morning, Kas.” Toby smiles at him.

“Morning.” The deep timbre of his voice ripples through me.

This man was inside me only hours ago.

Jesus.

I grab the biscuits tin and carry it over to the table, trying to avoid all eye contact with Kas. I’m fairly sure that, if I look at him, I’ll give the game away, and Toby will know that we’ve had sex.

“No uniform today?” Toby says as I put the biscuit tin on the table.

“Um, what?” I glance down at my clothes.

Fuckity fucking shit.

I have on the jeans and top I came in last night. I always have my uniform on when Toby sees me.

Oh God.

“Casual Friday,” I blurt out.

Casual Friday? What the hell, Daisy? I’m a maid. Do maids even have casual Fridays?

“Casual Friday?” Toby echoes.

“The staff all put in a little money to wear casual clothes today, and we’re donating the money to charity,” Kas says calmly.

My eyes flick to his. I see the grin in them. I quickly look back at Toby.

“Sounds like a great idea. Which charity?” Toby asks me.

My mouth goes dry.

“RSPCA,” Kas answers for me.

“We’ve never done that in my office. I’m going to suggest it at the next meeting.” Toby smiles, looking suitably happy with himself. He opens the biscuit tin and helps himself to one.

I turn, catching Kas’s eyes, which are still grinning at me but filled with heat, too. So much heat.

Crap.

Looking away, I nervously swallow down.

“Coffee?” I ask Kas as I move across the kitchen, heading back to the coffee machine.

“Sure,” he answers, his voice molten.

I grab three cups from the cupboard.

“So, how is everything with you, Kas?” Toby asks him.

“Good.”

“Business going well?”

“Yep. Daisy?”

I pause what I’m doing and glance back at him over my shoulder.

His face is impassive, but memories of last night are clear in his eyes. My stomach flips.

“Bring my coffee to me in my office.”

If you didn’t know him as well as I do, then you’d miss the suggestive curl of his lip and the sexual intent in his voice. But I do know him, and I know why he’s telling me to come to his office.

Heat surfaces in my face and my lady parts. “Okay.” I swallow.

I don’t watch him leave the kitchen because I’m too busy trying to control my raging hormones.

Somehow keeping composure, I finish making the coffees and carry them over to the table. I put Toby’s cup down in front of him.

“I’ll just take this to Kas.” I lift Kas’s coffee cup in gesture.

Toby lifts his eyes from the papers in front of him, and then he smiles and nods.

Seeing my case notes laid out on the table reminds me why I’m here.

I’m not here because I’m Kas’s girlfriend. Well, I’m not actually his girlfriend.

Look at me, getting ahead of myself. We’ve had one failed date and sex.

But, ultimately, I’m his employee, and I’m here because my probation deems it so.

Excitement dampened, I head to Kas’s office, coffee in hand. Reaching his closed office door, I knock.

I haven’t been in his office since he barred me from here, which was also the first time we ever kissed.

God, that feels like forever ago.

The memory of that kiss tingles through me, lighting me up, and so does the sound of his deep timbre when he tells me to come in. I open the door before shutting it behind me.

Kas is sitting in his chair behind his desk.

“Your coffee, sir.” I grin as I walk over to his desk and place the steaming cup down in front of him. “Is that all? Or do you need anything else from me?” My tone comes out sounding seductive even though I didn’t mean it to. Or maybe I did.

“There is something else I need.” He pushes to his feet and rounds the desk, heading for me.

Heat unfurls in my belly at his approach.

Curling his hand around the nape of my neck, he hauls me in for a kiss. His tongue runs along mine, and he hums a delicious sound in his mouth that sends shivers right down to my toes.

He tastes of mint and something so seductively him.

Kas’s kisses always send my body haywire, but being in here, with him, knowing that Toby is just down the hall in the kitchen, makes it feel naughty and dangerous, and it heats me up even more.

God, I want him right now.

Guess this girl likes her men with a side of danger.

My hands move over his broad chest, feeling the firm ridges. Going around to his back, I clutch on to him.

His free arm bands around my back, pulling me closer to him. He turns, so he’s leaning up against his desk, and I’m pressed up against all of his delicious hotness.

His kisses move from my mouth to my jaw until his mouth is on my ear. “The second Toby’s gone, I want you to go straight upstairs, take off all your clothes, and wait for me on my bed.”

Holy…shiver.

“Is that an order?” My voice is hoarse with excitement. But, seriously, who wouldn’t be excited after hearing that?

He kisses my jaw, and his teeth graze over my skin, making me shudder. “Do you want it to be?”

Hell yes. I tip my head back and stare into his lust-fogged eyes. “Only if it results in me coming.”

“Multiple times,” he promises.

“Then, yes, please.”

He growls. He actually growls, and then he’s kissing me again, devouring my mouth, and it’s hot as fuck.

But I’m also aware that time is ticking by, and Toby is in the other room.

I break from the kiss. “I have to go.”

I try to step away, but Kas keeps me there.

“Sooner I’m done with Toby, the sooner I’ll be upstairs, waiting on your bed—naked,” I whisper that last word.

His hand slips from around my neck and cups my chin. He firmly presses his lips to mine, gently sucking on my lower lip. “You drive me crazy,” he murmurs.

I take that as a good thing because he wraps his arms around me, holding me tight.

I love it when he hugs me.

I inch up onto my toes and rest my chin on his shoulder, and something very hard pokes me in the stomach. I giggle.

“What?” His questioning voice is a rumble.

I push my belly against his erection, and he chuckles deep and low.

“If it helps, my knickers are completely soaked.”

He groans. “No, that doesn’t fucking help at all.”

I laugh. “Sorry.” I press a kiss to the skin at the base of his neck.

As I lift my head, I notice something. “Hey, where’s the door gone?”

I feel Kas’s body instantly lock up beneath me, his whole demeanor changing. Gone is the warmth, and I feel a chill emit from him that I can’t explain.

But that chill has me moving away from him.

When I look at his face, it’s blank.

“What door?” His voice is as empty as his expression.

“The door that was there.” I point over his shoulder to the place where the door used to be, but now, it is a full wall-to-ceiling bookcase.

Curling his hands around the edge of his desk, he says, “There was never a door there.”

“Um…” I let out an unsure laugh. “Are you kidding right now?”

“Babe, no, I’m not kidding. Honestly, I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”

I rub my head. “The door.” I point at the spot again. “It was right there, where that bookcase is. We had an argument about that door. Well, kind of. I came in here to leave you coffee and muffins, and you were coming in through that door.” I point at it again. “You tore me a new one about coming in your office. I asked if I should clean that room. You bit my head off again, telling me no. It was also the first day we kissed.”

The look on his face is like he thinks I’ve lost my mind.

Have I?

No, there was definitely a door there.

“I don’t know what to tell you, babe, but there’s never been a door there. It’s always been a bookcase.”

“I…” I rub my head, confused.

He reaches out, pulling me back to him, and he softly brushes his lips over mine. “Maybe you’re confusing it with something else. The library maybe.”

No.

I want to argue that I’m not confusing it with the library. I remember that day clearly because it’s the day he kissed me.

Okay, the shitty before and after weren’t great, but it was the first time he kissed me, and I will always remember it.

I might not be the smartest person in the room, but I have a good memory. I remember details. Usually because I like to relay them back to Cece. But whatever. I specifically remember the disagreement Kas and I had, his reaction to my asking about the room behind that door, him banning me from his office, and then seeing him lock the door with a key.

There was a goddamn door there, not a fucking bookcase.

But I’m not going to argue with him because sense tells me that he’ll keep lying, and I’ve got Toby waiting for me in the kitchen.

“Yeah, you’re probably right.” I press my hand to his chest before stepping back. “I should go. Toby’s waiting.”

His eyes stay trained on me. I try to read them, but as usual, I get nothing.

I hate that I can never get a read on what’s going on in his head. He can so easily school his features and hide whatever lies behind his eyes.

Well, he can hide whatever he likes. But I do know for a fact that he just flat-out lied to me, and I don’t like that one bit.

The realization that Kas has just lied to me hits me, and my stomach sinks.

“Hey, you okay?” He smiles. It’s a gleaming smile, but something about it feels off.

Everything about this moment feels off.

Oh, how quickly things can change. I was happy a moment ago, and now, I’m trying to figure out why the man I’m crazy about is lying to me—over a door, of all things.

“Of course.” I give him a manufactured smile. “See you upstairs in an hour.” I pivot on my toes and walk out of his office with a bounce in my step, so he won’t know anything is off with me.

The second I shut his office door behind me, my smile drops from my face, and that sinking feeling in my stomach comes back full force.

Kas lied to me.

I can’t believe this.

He barefaced lied to me and made it seem like I was losing my marbles, and I want to know why.

I fell for a liar before. It didn’t turn out so well for me.

Fool Daisy once, stupid Daisy. Fool Daisy twice…yeah, not going to happen.

I won’t be so dumb to let that happen again.

So, I’m going to find out exactly what Kas is hiding from me because I won’t be anybody’s fool ever again.
