Chapter 65 The Passing Ghost
"The red paper's barely holding back this eye anymore. Looks like it's almost at its limit," Michael muttered, wiping his face in front of the mirror. He noticed the red paper on the back of his hand starting to crack. Yep, a clear crack. This red paper was no ordinary thing. It came from a Vengeful Ghost. Normally, he couldn't just tear it apart with brute force; only the spirit's power could do that.
"Is it because I used the Ghost Realm today? Or is the red paper just wearing off over time?" Michael wondered, touching the back of his hand.
The eye beneath his skin was getting restless.
No obvious changes yet, but he could feel the Vengeful Ghost's eye starting to wake up again.
His body seemed to be turning into a host for the ghost's eye, with the eye growing stronger as he edged closer to death.
'But it's cool. As long as I find a way to keep the ghost from waking up, I'll be fine,' Michael thought.
After dealing with a bunch of supernatural stuff, he wasn't as scared of dying anymore.
But when he saw the stack of dark brown human skin paper next to him, he froze for a second.
Parchment, the creepiest thing in Michael's eyes.
Just to be safe, he opened the parchment to check for any recent changes.
'Better hit up a jewelry store and get a box made for this thing. Just in case this human skin isn't just an object but a ghost, I don't wanna end up dead because of it,' Michael thought. But as he checked the parchment, a line of words suddenly appeared on it.
"Today, after taking a shower, I checked the parchment and discovered it has a special ability. It seems to be able to seal other ghosts, and after sealing a ghost, I learned a shocking secret." "I found out a real secret to survival from the parchment."
"This feels like a deal. I'm considering whether to make this deal. Looking at this strange parchment, I'm hesitant."
"Only an idiot would trust you. Henrik got tricked and killed by you," Michael cursed, folding the parchment and looking away.
This parchment always seemed to know what you wanted most, using your desires to manipulate you.
But the reason Michael hadn't ditched this human skin parchment was that everything it said was true.
Without the parchment's info, he would've died even after becoming a Ghost Handler back in school.
So, even though he knew it was weird, he couldn't help but keep it for survival. He wanted any chance to stay alive.
"I'm back, Michael, you still here?" Jane's voice suddenly called out.
Michael walked out of the bathroom as the door opened, and he saw Jane carrying a big bag, panting as she walked in.
"How'd you get back so fast after shopping?" Michael asked.
Instinctively, he walked over and took the heavy bag from her.
Jane said nervously, "It's so late, I didn't wanna stay outside alone for a long time. What if I ran into a ghost again? I ran all the way from the elevator."
"Ghosts don't care if it's day or night. If you're unlucky, you can run into them during the day too," Michael said.
"Yeah, you're right. But you gotta save me then," Jane laughed. Seeing Michael made her feel safe, not nervous or scared at all.
"Come in." Michael suddenly felt something weird in his body.
It wasn't his own body that felt off, but the demon's eye inside him. It seemed like the demon's eye was out of control at that moment.
Almost involuntarily, it forced open the skin and opened.
On the back of his hand, behind his head, on his body, a total of six eyes, instantly reaching the limit he could handle.
'What's going on? Why's the demon's eye acting up like this, just like when that Ghost Baby bit me?' Michael's face went pale.
This sudden weirdness was something he'd never dealt with before. The only other time was when that Ghost Baby attacked him at school, making the demon's eye wake up. But now, it was happening again.
"Come in, close the door," Michael said, pulling Jane inside and shutting the door quickly.
"I haven't even showered yet, don't rush me," Jane said, a bit shy.
Michael covered her mouth, silencing her.
Seeing Michael's serious and intense expression, Jane immediately knew something was wrong. Her eyes widened in fear, "Are you serious? Another ghost?"
"It's not here, it's outside the neighborhood," Michael replied.
The demon's eye behind Michael's head saw flickering lights outside, coming from not too far away.
He ran to the window and looked out.
On a small path just outside the neighborhood, a gray world appeared. Even the streetlights couldn't light it up. Everything that touched that gray world seemed to get swallowed up, becoming part of it. "What is that?" Michael's expression changed, and several eyes on his body looked in that direction.
But after just a few seconds, all the demon's eyes that looked over closed simultaneously.
Yep, they shut on their own without Michael's control, like they were covered by red paper, staying very quiet.
'The demon's eyes don't dare to look?' He was shocked.
But with his naked eyes, Michael could tell that the gray world was a Ghost Realm, covering a huge area.
From west to south, it formed a nearly endless gray zone, like a line of death, splitting the whole city.
If it was a ghost's Ghost Realm, the level of terror of this ghost was unimaginable.
It must have reached an S level, catastrophic level.
'Luckily, the Ghost Realm just passed through the middle of the road and the neighborhood wasn't affected. The demon's eyes probably just sensed the commotion in advance,' Michael thought, feeling relieved. If the Ghost Realm had passed through this building, he would probably die tonight.
"What happened? Is there another ghost?" Jane asked cautiously, barely breathing.
"It has nothing to do with us, just a passing ghost. It should leave soon," Michael replied, seeing the Ghost Realm starting to fade.
The gray world gradually became clear.
With his understanding of Ghost Realms, he knew the ghost had left. It was hard to tell where the ghost was when the Ghost Realm appeared.
After all, within a Ghost Realm, a ghost can pop up anywhere.
However, just as the Ghost Realm was about to disappear completely, Michael saw a phantom scene, showing a corner of that gray world.
A flickering candlelight in the gray world, emitting an eerie green flame.
Under the white candle was a golden candlestick, in a modern European style, probably made recently.
Under the candlelight, a pair of hands were reflected, smooth and flawless.
These hands were pierced by the other end of the candlestick, but no blood flowed out.
Finally, as the candlelight flickered, Michael saw that the hands belonged to a woman, but only her outline was visible, with no face or features.
Mysterious, unknown, or maybe terrifying.
The scene disappeared and the Ghost Realm was gone.
Michael took a deep breath and thought, 'Gold is used to seal ghosts. Those hands, that woman, did a Ghost Handler confront this thing? But it seems they failed.'
'A ghost of this level wouldn't be handled by just one Ghost Handler, it must be a team effort.'
'But the ghost wasn't captured, which means the Ghost Handlers are all dead.'
