Chapter Monster
Damian
I wasn’t sure if my dreams were real anymore.
I drifted in and out of sleep constantly, hoping that I would be reunited with her in my mind, but there was nothing. Anything I did now was a mere blur, I was going on basic instinct, and that was to kill my enemies.
“What are we going to do with them Alpha?” Barak stood over the young warriors lined up on the ground. They were all Crimson scouts that my men found snooping around the border of our territory.
My pack, the ones that survived, all looked to me different now. I wasn’t sure if it was because I was on a violent binge, or maybe it was because they feared me.
I wasn’t the same, and I was changing in ways I never thought possible.
Was I becoming like Holden?
Revenge was the only thing on my mind. I’ll fucking burn this entire world down just to have her.
But after all the blood shed, I knew deep down this wasn’t me. I didn’t kill aimlessly unless it was absolutely necessary, but at the same time, they took her from me. They took my family, and now, my babies were in limbo.
I needed a few more days to gather the resources to rescue her, but I was growing impatient. Something wasn’t sitting right in the pit of my stomach, and I was losing control of my mind. The temptation of retrieving her by myself was appealing, but I couldn’t get myself killed.
I turned to my men hovering over the Crimson warriors. “Kill them.”
Eric looked away, obviously not pleased with my new found vengeful addiction. “We should keep some alive for questioning.”
“I already know where she is, it doesn’t matter now. We need to even up our numbers if we are going to take her back. This is the only way.”
“Since when does Fenrir “even the numbers?” We are always outnumbered, and we always succeed...”
I briefly looked back to my men standing with their guns pointing to the heads of the scouts.
I felt no guilt.
They all deserved to die.
How could they serve Holden knowing the things he does?
That’s when the yelling started. Barak took the first shot. Silver to the head. It was an instant death, and the warrior collapsed to the ground instantly. We were far enough away from the pack house to not be overheard by the others.
“Please no, no, no, no!” Several voices of the young men erupted as the gun shots continued.
One by one, the bodies fell to the floor, when finally there was only one voice left in the group.
“Please, I have kids, please, no…” The young man was pleading to Barak who was now holding his gun to his head.
His comment intrigued me. I turned myself towards them and looked down to the warrior begging for his life.
He was on his knees, looking to me for mercy. He was young, maybe mid 20s, he had blonde hair, and tears were falling from his reddened eyes. He was naked just like the rest of his dead comrades. They were captured in their wolf form and were forced to shift back for questioning.
“Kids?” I came forward to Barak and looked down to the young warrior. I pushed the gun down that Barak still held to the man’s head.
I’ve killed so many of them at this point, so why was I concerned if he had kids?
“Yes, I have 2 of them! Please, I can’t leave them… Their mother is dead. PLEASE Alpha!” He pushed his hands together and got down to the floor in submission.
My eyes sunk down. My heart was racing as I thought of Diana. What would she think if she saw what I had become? Would she look to me in the same way as Holden?
I turned back around and held my hand to my chest. I kept envisioning her alone, pregnant, without me, with not one, but two children. My heart felt like it was sinking to the bottom of the ocean, it was hard to breathe, and my chest was tightening up.
Was this guilt?
“You ok Alpha?” Barak came forward, then I put my hand out to stop him.
“YES, I’m fine…” I peeked over my shoulder one last time as the man continued to look to me with his eyes full of tears. “Let him go.”
Barak scratched the back of his head and raised his eyebrows, obviously confused with my command. “What? Let him go? But we already….”
I latched onto his collar and lifted him off his feet before he could finish his sentence. “I fucking said, LET HIM GO. Got it?” He reeked of fear as I held his collar tightly in my hands. I’ve never had to speak to Barak like this before today. He served me since I first became Alpha, and I’ve never laid a hand on him until now.
What the hell was I doing? What would my dad think if he saw me lose control like this?
As we locked eyes for a brief moment, I released my grip on him.
“Yes… Alpha.” He cleared his throat and slowly backed away.
I looked back to the warrior one last time. He still feared me even though I gave him mercy. He probably felt like I was lying, but I wasn’t. I wasn’t like my brother. I wasn’t going to give him freedom just to kill him soon after.
I wasn’t a monster… Was I?
“Alpha, let’s get back to the house…” Eric placed his hand on my shoulder and I immediately looked to him. He was looking to me in the same way everyone else was.
With fear.
My moods were obviously sporadic, and I was trying my best to get a handle on it, but ever since she left, and when he sent that file….
The file.
THAT FUCKING FILE.
That’s why they all deserved to fucking die!
I turned back around. The warrior was still on his knees. I whipped my hand out to Barak still holding the handgun nearby and took it.
“Please!! Don’t!!” He started begging with his hands clasped tightly together.
I pointed the gun to his head.
My hand was on the trigger.
My body was surging with adrenaline.
This was all of their fucking fault. I increased the pressure slowly as I watched the man continue to beg.
His hands inched towards my feet. “Please!!”
I kicked his hand away. “You fucking think you are getting out of here alive after you took her from me!” I pushed the barrel of the gun to his head.
“I am just following my Alpha! Please, you must understand!”
I laughed. “Following a murderous Alpha with no conscious. Your just like the rest of them.”
I held my breath as I dug the barrel harder into his skull.
“NO PLEASE! I had nothing to do with it!”
All I felt was pain, and now, they will all feel the same pain.
“Young man, you vastly misunderstand what it is to be a wolf... You ALL took her from me, and now, you must all be punished...”
“Alpha! Alpha!” Suddenly, Adonis emerged from the tree line. He was out of breath, and his face was lit up like he just saw a ghost. “It’s Hippolyta, she’s here! She’s…”
As soon as Eric heard Hippolyta’s name, he bolted from where he was standing.
Adonis stumbled towards me as he glanced back to Eric who already disappeared in the forests. “No! She’s not alone Alpha!”
“What?! Who?!” I dropped the gun and started running.
Just as I increased my speed, I heard Adonis shout out one last time. “She’s with him Alpha! She’s with Loki!”
“Fuck!” I started running faster. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do when I saw him. Should I kill him quickly or slowly? Or was Eric going to do it before I got the chance?
We were outside, but I could only assume they were near the territory border. Our entire property was under lock down. There was no getting onto my territory without me knowing about it.
…
10 Minutes Later…
I could hear a commotion beyond the forest line.
“What the fuck are you doing here Loki?! You should be dead!” Eric roared at the top of his lungs. It was strange to hear him so upset, yet again, I would be if I were in his shoes.
“Where is Damian?!” Loki snapped back.
I finally caught view of them. I was expecting just Loki and Hippolyta, but there was someone else with them. It was an unfamiliar scent, a man that I’ve never seen before. His hands were bound behind his back and his face dug into the ground like he was semi-conscious.
Both Loki and Hippolyta were wearing torn up Crimson warrior uniforms, and Loki was standing jagged, like he barely had any energy left.
Was he wounded?
I couldn’t tell from the mixture of blood and dirt that covered both of them, but the smell of fresh blood filled the air, and I wasn’t sure who it was coming from.
My men surrounded Loki. He was bigger than majority, but it didn’t matter, he was outnumbered.
Eric stood a few feet away from Hippolyta, and I could sense the tension rising quickly. The two of them always fought over her, and it was why they were at war all the time.
“Where is Damian? We need to speak to him immediately…” Hippolyta remained beside the man bound on the floor.
“Get away from him, he is a traitor!” Eric put his arm out to her, but she didn’t move, instead she looked backed to Loki.
“He’s hurt Eric, he saved Diana, he needs help!”
“Help my ass! He can die!” Eric roared.
Loki straightened up his body and stood in front of Hippolyta, blocking Eric from approaching her.
I had to step in before this escalated.
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” I raised by voice enough to turn the heads of everyone in the surrounding area. As I came forward, my warriors surrounding the area cleared a path for me to walk through.
“Alpha!” Hippolyta stepped forward. I’ve never seen her so bent out of shape before. It looked like she went to hell and back, but at least she was alive.
Eric still staring down Loki like a hawk. His face darkened and his hands were balled into fists, ready to make a move at any moment.
“Hold back Eric, NOW.” I narrowed my eyes to him and he immediately stepped back.
“If you’re going to kill him, I’ll do the honours.” He muttered under his breath.
I ignored his comment and refocused my attention on Loki. “Where is Diana?”
His face dropped. “I don’t know.”
“Where is she?!” I approached him, and the scent of blood got stronger. He was most definitely injured. The crimson gear that he wore was bullet proof, but it was obvious there was a silver lodged into the bullet wound on his chest.
He started to lean back a little more, like he was about to collapse. “I don’t know… I went back for her…”
In this moment, I knew everything he has done; to her, to my pack, and to me. He deserved to die, and no one could tell me other wise.
I balled my hand into a fist. I wanted to do much worse, but this was a mere warm up.
I punched him directly between his eyes.
There was a slight sting on my knuckle from the impact, but there was no pain, only gratification from seeing him fall directly on his ass from the punch.
I shook my hand, ready to wind up for another shot.
It took him a couple of seconds to get off the floor, but he didn’t retaliate. He took it because he knew that’s what he deserved.
He grunted as he struggled to get back to his feet. “Please… Damian…”
I went in for another punch, but this time, I directed my fist straight to the wound on his chest.
He howled in pain and stumbled a couple steps back. He held his hand on his chest as more blood poured out from the wound.
“So did my Diana shoot you?” I stepped towards him as he regained his posture.
“No.” He spat out fresh blood from his mouth to the ground.
“He took the bullet for her Alpha!” Hippolyta interjected, but was immediately met with Loki nodding his head to her to back away.
“Stay out of this Hippolyta.” He growled.
Her face dropped and she stepped back. I could see the tears forming in her eyes. She loved him. She would always love him more then Eric, but he was a traitor.
“Who’s your friend then? A new pet? He smells like Crimson… Just like you.” I felt my canines starting to protrude from my mouth. My beast was trying to claw its way out, but I had to question him first before I let myself go.
I had to find out more.
I pushed my foot into his chest causing him to collapse again to the ground, but this time, he wasn’t getting back up. He was on deaths door.
“Stop it! He’s just trying to help!” Hippolyta stumbled forward, trying her best to help Loki up, but he pushed her away.
“GO...” He grunted.
“Eric, take her back home NOW.” I looked back to Eric who was already trying to calm Hippolyta down. On a regular day, I would never let one of my own pack members talk back, but I understood what love could do to a person’s mind.
“NO!!” She screamed as Eric pulled her away. I hated doing this, but Loki gave me no choice. He made his bed, and now he must lay in it.
I waited a moment for Hippolyta’s crying to fade out, and just as I knew we were in the clear again, I continued.
“Now, what were we talking about.” I pushed my foot down on his chest. Blood spewed out of his mouth as he gasped for air.
“Like I said,” I pushed down a little harder. He grunted loudly as more blood came from his mouth. “Why did you leave her?”
I released my foot to allow him to answer.
He was breathing heavily, trying his best to catch more air. He looked like dog shit, his eyes were blood shot, the corner of his mouth was crusty with blood, and his voice trembled like a sick dog.
“Holden shot me, then she ran. I tried to get her back here, I swear…”
I immediately rammed my foot back into his chest, pushing harder then before.
He screamed.
He squirmed, but he stayed down in submission.
He was allowing me to do this, but the old Loki I knew would never let anyone put him down like this. It was strange to witness.
I dug into the wound, harder, and harder, until I was on the brink of collapsing his sternum.
I kept eye contact with him the entire time. Watching the pain run through his body until he trembled. “That’s a fucking sad story. Why should I believe you?”
I released my foot again.
He breathed in heavily and looked up to me. “I went back to find her, and she wasn’t there. No one was there… I can help you get her back…”
“You’ve done enough, don’t you think traitor?”
Loki turned his head and pointed to the man, still bound on the ground. I couldn’t see his face, but he wore similar clothes to Loki.
“Who is this then, a friend of yours?” I approached the semi conscious man.
His black hair was tousled from the journey here, and blood stained his pale complexion, but he wasn’t a typical warrior size. He was too large to be a nobody. He was probably high ranking by the looks of it, but one thing stuck out.
I didn’t smell fear.
I kicked him to the side to get a better look at his face. “Who are you?”
He fell to the side, his eyes were flickering shut, and now I under stood why. There was a silver blade sticking into his abdomen.
I looked back to Loki. “Crafty work.”
“Call it a peace offering.”
I laughed. “A peace offering?! You think a mysterious man will make me trust you again? After all you did?” I continued laughing as I looked back to the man on the ground. “Your pathetic Loki.”
“I know Holden’s weaknesses; I know where he is going to take Diana…”
My adrenaline sky rocketed when he mentioned her.
My Di.
My Diana.
My mate that was still out there with him.
I got down to Loki’s level. He was hazy, and his eyes were slightly closed.
I latched onto his collar and pulled him slightly off the ground. “TAKE HER?! What are you talking about?!”
Suddenly, a cynical, diabolical laugh erupted from the mysterious man still sitting on the ground. Maybe he was going insane from the blood loss or the silver, but he wasn’t holding back from taunting me and my patience was growing thin. “Your too late, she’s already gone… That place is a fortress by now. You will need an army to get her back...”
“WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU ANYWAYS?! DID I TELL YOU TO SPEAK?” I kicked the man to the side once again, but he continued laughing, un-phased by my presence.
Loki coughed. “He was planning on taking her to the city, to the main hospital to save one of the babies…”
“EXCUSE ME?” I lifted the man up to his feet. The blade was still sticking outside his abdomen. He kept laughing, his eyes were black, but he was smiling.
He was smiling because I was powerless to do anything about it.
I latched onto the handle of the knife and pulled it out in one quick motion. His hands were still bound behind his back, but his smile soon disappeared and was replaced by pain.
The wound was already starting to heal, but that’s when I jammed it back in, digging it in as deep as I could until it could go in no further.
He screamed as I twisted the blade at every angle I could get it to turn, slowly digging into his flesh as the silver burned through his body.
“You may want to hold back on killing him right away…” Loki grunted. I noticed more blood pooling around his body as he laid motionless on the ground. I was surprised he was still alive considering how long it’s been lodged in there for.
I turned my attention back to the man.
His face deepened, and his eyes went from black to a blood shot red. I dug the knife deeper to watch the man’s expression dwindle.
He yelled out in agony.
It felt too good to stop now.
I smiled as I continued pushing in the rest of the blade. “And why’s that?”
“That’s Iris, your brother’s Beta.”
