Chapter Extraction: Part 2
Red/Loki
Dust was everywhere, the room was dark, but the light emitting from the hallway allowed me to see the shadows on the other side.
My adrenaline spiked to the point that everything seemed like a blur. My vision, my hearing, all distorted from my pounding heart. I tried my best to focus on my deep breathing, all while steadying my finger over the detonator.
Dust filled the air from the collapsed door, making it near impossible to see.
I held my breath for a moment as I heard a commotion through the doorway.
I was waiting for the footsteps to enter, then that would be my cue to detonate the bomb, but the commotion soon turned to silence.
I gave it a few more seconds to hear them enter.

Again, there was nothing. I was gripping onto the detonator so tight that my hand started to tremble.
“What are you waiting for assholes?” I shouted.
That’s when I heard a body fall to the floor.
Something wasn’t right.
I got to my feet, with my hand still hovering the trigger. I sniffed the air but was only met with dust particles.
I stayed silent to listen to any other movements.
“Who’s there?” I stepped forward and peeked through the empty doorway. I could see part of the poorly lit hallway, but nothing else, there was still too much dust to see clearly.
That’s when I heard hard footsteps approaching. My finger once again hovered the trigger, but why should I blow myself up when there was only one warrior? I could easily take him out myself. I removed my finger off the trigger in the meantime, but still kept the detonator in my hand.
There was a shadow at the doorway. It was a large man by the looks of it, breathing heavily.
“Who the fuck are you?” I asked.
“Who do you think?” He approached through the cloud of dust, and my eyes widened at the realization of who it was.
“What the hell are you doing here Eric?!” I stomped forward and dropped the detonator to the ground.
“A thank you would be sufficient, but I guess we still hate each other,” he smirked.
“No seriously, why in the hell are you down here?” I pushed him back, “Get out of here, I have to protect this place, more will be coming.” I looked behind Eric at the pile of bodies he left behind, then back to him with widened eyes.
I couldn't believe it. Was I dead already?
“No, I’m protecting this place, and you...” He forcefully placed a small handheld device in my hand, “are taking this and going back to help them retrieve Diana. I did my part, you just need to protect this, it controls the entire building.”
“No, no, no.” I looked down at the black device, the screen was on and there was a map of the entire building with a list of various security protocols, door codes, etc.
I was beginning to question if this place was a hospital or a god damn prison.
“You like it? Holden had them install the security system before they took Diana here.”
“Take it back!” I pushed the device back into his chest, but he immediately stepped back.
“No, it’s all yours now,” Eric reached for the detonator that I dropped to the floor. “Nice handy work.” He analyzed the detonator in his hand and smiled, “I could have helped you with this.”
“You’re not staying here! I am,” I growled.
Eric calmly looked down to his watch, “You have six minutes until more come, trapping us both down here.”
“Fuck you, I’m staying, YOU’RE GOING.”
He casually leaned against a nearby wall and looked at his wristwatch again, “I guess we will both die. It will be unfortunate that Hippolyta will not only lose you, but me as well.”
“YOU CAN’T DO THIS.” I latched onto his collar and pulled him in aggressively, but he didn’t retaliate, instead, he just calmly looked to his watch again and smiled, “Five minutes Loki, you better hurry.”
“Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to save me?!”
Eric looked to the floor, then back to me. His smile quickly disappeared as his face dropped and his eyes darkened. Then suddenly, he forcefully whipped my arms away, “BECAUSE I LOVE HER! AND NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH!”
Finally I could hear the emotions pouring out in his voice. His eyes turned blood shot as he continued, “and if that means saving your ass to keep her soul intact and healthy, then I’ll fucking kill myself to do so. Call me crazy, but I will never be able to live with myself if I watched her destined mate die… Especially when I could have done something about it… NOW GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE BEFORE I BLOW THIS SHIT HOLE WITH BOTH OF US IN IT. And without that device, Damian won’t be able to do anything about the doors and finding Diana,” he gritted between his teeth.
I looked back down at the device in my hand and squeezed tightly. “You are willing to die for us…” It pained me to say it, it fucking pained me so hard that he was willing to do this for us.
How could I leave him here?
“We can both escape, we can kill anything that comes through the elevator doors and work our way up. We’ll blow this up when we get to the top.”
Eric nodded in disapproval and grinned, “No, you’re not understanding our situation. How far do you think you can enable the detonator within the signal radius? Twenty feet, or at most, thirty feet? There’s no chance in hell we can make it and blow it up without one of us being here.”
I sighed heavily. He was right, and from my understanding this can only blow from a maximum thirty feet away. It wasn’t a high-tech bomb, and on top of that, I couldn’t trust how far it could really reach because I’ve only made a handful of them in my lifetime.
Eric tapped on his watch, “Four Minutes, you don’t have much time.”
“You’re really a stubborn fool did you know that?!” I barked back.
He smirked, “I could say the same about you.”
“You’re really going to stay then?”
“Like I said, its either me, or both of us.”
I breathed in heavily and picked up my backpack, “There must be another way.”
Eric’s eyes turned cold, “Quit this pity party, just LEAVE, before its too late.”
I wanted to keep brainstorming ideas, but there really wasn’t anymore time. I was torn, but at the same time both of us couldn’t die down here.
“Look – “ Eric cut me off and pushed me back to the doorway.
“Do I have to beat your ass and send you home broken to Hippolyta? LEAVE!”
I stepped back, my mouth was open, but I had no words. I started walking down the hallway as Eric stood silently, watching me closely as I distanced myself to him.
I turned my head over my shoulder, “I will never forget this.”
“Just never forget who I’m doing this for. Its her, and it will always be her.”
I turned my head towards the elevator for a brief moment, and to be honest, I didn’t know how to reply to him. I was in shock that he was doing this. He was saying it was for her, but really, it was for both of us. After everything that happened, he was sacrificing himself so that Hippolyta could be with her destined mate.
“Take the stairs, elevator is probably jammed packed full of Crimson by now.” He pointed to a steel door directly across from the elevator.
“Won’t they be in the stairwell?”
“The stairwell connects directly to the main lobby, which is occupied by Fenrir right now. The elevator connects to the entire hospital, so the Crimson warriors could be coming from anywhere.”
“Oh…” I looked one last time at Eric, then at the elevator that was now making noise. The light above the door signaled it was coming down, slowly counting down numbers until it arrived.
I approached the stairwell door, and just as I turned the door handle, I realized there was something blocking the other side.
I opened it up a jar to see a wounded Crimson warrior. He was a young man, maybe early 20s, closely shaven head, pale complexion, and by the looks of it, severely injured. His hand held onto his chest that was littered with several bullet holes. He was crawling down the stairs from the main floor, where Fenrir warriors created their perimeter.
He was probably a sole survivor from the initial attack and was trying to escape.
His hand came onto my leg as he gasped for air. I took a moment to look at him, then looked back to the elevator that was still several floors from reaching the basement.
That’s when the epiphany hit me.
“Help me Loki…” He muttered.
I leaned over to look at him closely. He knew who I was, but probably hasn't clued in that I switched packs.
He was defeated and exhausted, but I'm sure he was willing to do anything for his Alpha and any other senior ranking officers.
I let out a large smile and extended my hand out to him, “Of course brother.”
