Chapter 027
"Who are you?"
Liv held his eyes as she found herself in the cell with him once more. The last thing she remembered was eating the weed and then nothing. The only thing she could be sure of right now was the fact that she wasn't dead. She had cheched her pulse the moment she found herself here.
Now she was standing in front of her cousin. The one that actually matters to her. The resemblance between him and her father was frightning. Especially because they are cousins and not brothers. She would have expected this resemblance with Rafe more than with him, and yet she was glad that he was the one who looked like her father. If Rafe had, it would have been even more devastating to take him down.
She took a step forward.
"You can see me."
He gave her a small nod. "And hear you."
Doc had told her that it took the Sisters years to master their projection to the other and yet here she was, standing in his cell and talking to him, the third time she had ever visited him without her even doing anything.
The laws of how things were supposed to go were not applying to her it seems.
Right now she took that as a good thing.
"Who are you?" Ulf asked again. His voice not sounding like normal. Even though she didn't know how his voice sounded, the fact that its hoarse and croaky told her that.
"My name is Livana." She said as she took another step closer.
"You're a Moonblood." He said with a slight growl in his throat. Yet it didn't stop her from taking another step forward. "I am."
His eyes took her in, from her eyes to the dress she wore, the one Nessa had given her at Caden's pack, to her loose hair, before it landed on the pendant around her neck. His eyes grew wide as he saw it.
"I am the daughter of Leif." His eyes snapped back to hers as his lips parted in surprise. He looked at her completely again, focussing on her features before she saw the tears lining his eyes. Making her own eyes water as well.
"You look like him." He whispered as he tried to stand up a little straighter, earning himself a grunt.
"As do you." She said as she took a few more steps closer. "You could have been his brother." She added in a whisper.
A sad smile coated his mouth as he nodded. "Everyone used to say that about us. In every way he had always been brother than my cousin." A tear rolled down her cheek as she smiled as well, before her lip started to tremble. Liv dropped her head as she played with her nails.
"I'm sorry about his death and your mother's." She closed her eyes as she tried very hard not to break down into a crying mess. Seeing him did more to her than she wanted to admit.
It was like looking at her father, while knowing it wasn't him, it's still painful.
The bond in her chest hummed as she was close to her family relative. She had never had that feeling with Rafe, yet with Ulf it was instant.
"How are you here?"
She took a deep breath before she looked up again. "I don't know. I know that this is because of the Bloodcall, but according to Doc- Frode- someone who knows about this stuff, it should be possible for me to actually be here since I never knew I had and have never used it out of my own will."
"You have been here before earlier, haven't you?"
Liv nodded. "You couldn't see me back then. I could only see you and hear your thoughts."
"How long ago was that?"
"A couple of days I think." She answered truthfully.
"And you didn't know before then?" Ulf asked suprised.
"I didn't. Honestly I didn't know Ulfhednar existed until a couple of weeks ago, so there is a lot I still don't know." It was easy talking to him. Another thing that came instant.
Ulf looked at her with a confused expression. "What do you mean you didn't know about us? You are Leif's daughter."
A sigh left her as she looked at her hands again. "It's a very long story, but it comes down to the fact that my parents never told me about the Ulfhednar to protect me."
A muscle ticked in his jaw as guilt shone through his eyes. "I'm sorry."
Liv took another step closer until she stood in front of him. "I know you blame yourself for starting the war. I know that you think that you falling in love with whomever her is, is the cause of everything, but I don't blame you for anything. No one does."
"That's because you don't know the truth."
"Will you tell me?" She asked hoping it will help her understand everything.
He held her eyes for a long moment before saying the words she hadn't expected. "I almost killed Psophis."
The shock was clear on her face, but he didn't comment on it.
"Lycanthropes and Ulfhednars have always had their differences, but it never came to war until I pushed Lycaon too far." Ulf lowered his head as he continued talking. "Psophis and I were never meant to meet, but when Gods play games, mortals are usually the pawns and we were no different."
"She was the most beautiful female I had ever seen and when our eyes met it was like my world stopped, yet I knew I would never have her as she was engaged to her brother." The one she was married to right now.
It was known that Psophis was married to one of her brothers. Humans would think of it as incest, for Lycanthropes it's wasn't a taboo, although it didn't happen often as there are almost never a brother and sister which are both wolves. Since females wolves are Moonbloods and normally males aren't born from them, exception of Caden.
Come to think of it there are quite some exceptions when it came to her little circle.
"What happened?"
"Our cruel fate happened." Ulf exclaimed.
She could see the pain it was causing him to tell her this story, but she needed to know. She needed to know what he knew.
"Psophis is my soulmate." Her mouth fell open as she couldn't tear her eyes away from him. "The signs had become stronger with every stolen moment we spend with each other. We didn't want each other, at least that was what we were telling ourselves, but there is only so much denying a person can do."
"But why did you-"
"She became pregnant." Ulf cut her off as he met her eyes with the hard ones of his own.
"Her scent changed and Lycaon knew as soon as it did he knew that she was pregnant with my pup. If he had scented me on her before then is unclear, but he knew then and he was enraged. His Lycan took over and attacked Psophis, he was enraged with her for lowering herself to an Ulfhednar. He stopped himself only because his sons intervened. Her abdomen was in ribbons and it was a miracle she had pulled through, but the seed had died the moment he attacked her. After that everything went downhill. Psophis couldn't stay away from me and I from her thanks to the mate bond and Lycaon swore he would do everything in his power to keep her away from me. I told him that he won't succeed and boy was I wrong. Before I knew what was happening, Lycaon had his wolves infiltrated into my home. I was drugged and dragged out of my bed, before I was brought before my mother. Lycaon told me that I was resposible for everything that was going to happen, because of defiling his daughter and ripped out my mother's throat in front of me."
"Wait-" Liv took a step back. "Your mother? I thought she had given up after she lost het soulmate." He shook his head. "That is probably the story Lycaon spread after he took me and killed her. After the attack on her, they found out that Psophis would never be able to have pups again. A wolf may have incredicble healing-"
"Some wounds can't heal like others" Liv finished, thinking about her mother.
Ulf nodded again. "He blamed me for destroying the future of his bloodline and he vowed to make sure that mine would follow his."
Liv's eyes snapped to his, the dots connect in her head.
She took a few more steps away before turning around and grabbing her hair.
That was the reason why Lycaon was after her.
He wanted to destroy the future of Ulf's bloodline, of her bloodline. And that's what she was. The future of their bloodline.
"That is why he's after me. Why King took me and tortured me." A tear rolled down her cheek.
"Tortured?" Ulf sounded vicious.
Liv wiped her tear away as she turned back around. "It's a long story."
"Livana-"
"One we will have time to talk about once you are out of here." She interrupted him.
"You still want to save me?" She looked at him with surprise.
"Did you really think I wouldn't?"
"I am the reason you are being hunted and why so many of both races are dead."
"I am half Lycanthrope, half Ulfhednar. My mother was a Lycanthrope Moonblood and I am the first Moonblood to be born as half Ulfhednar." Shock was clear on his face. "You may think you are the reason, but a lot has happened that has enraged Lycaon even more. His anger has turned from you to me the moment I was born, so we both could say that we bear the guilt of all those who died."
"You are what Freya had foreseen." He whispered.
"And the one who is supposed to stop the war, but I can't do it on my own. We, I, need you to come back, Ulf."
A tear rolled down his cheek. "You can't free me, Auburn. You are just an apparation."
"Then tell me where you are so we can find you and bring you home." She said as she got closer again. "I know it must be somewhere in Greece, but that doesn't-"
"I never left my homeland." Ulf interrupted her.
"You're still in Norway?" He gave her a nod.
"But, how is that possible, Rafe would never allow Lycaon to enter Norway." A growl left Ulf. "How do you know him!?"
"Who, Rafe?" The gaze he send her was deathly.
"He basically kidnapped me in the ruse of saving me from Lycaon. He pretended that he wanted me to end the war, when all he wanted was to use my power. He may be an asshole but he still hates Lycaon."
"Yes, he does." Ulf seethed. "But he hates his own family more."
Liv gave him a confused gaze. "How do you know about him? You were taken before he was born."
"Because he had made the deal with Lycaon to keep me locked up until Lycaon could use me."
"Wha-"
Before she could finish her yell, her vision went black and she was pulled away from the cell, back to her body.
