Chapter 23 Are You Pregnant?

Soon, hurried footsteps came from upstairs.

Anders, wearing pajamas, came down, looking somewhat flustered.

Seeing Anders, Mary’s eyes lit up immediately. She cried out, “Anders, Anders! Save me, save me… Sally is going to kill me, she’s going to kill me… I just told her you were asleep, and she got so angry she wants to

kill me!”

Hearing the woman in her arms adding fuel to the fire, Sally tightened her grip, making Mary quiet down.

“What are you doing?” Anders looked at Sally unhappily. “Why are you causing a scene at my house in the middle of the night?”

Sally knew the misunderstandings between her and Anders could never be cleared up in this lifetime.

She gritted her teeth and said, “Anders, you have two choices in front of you.”

“First,” Sally glanced at the woman in her arms, “if you want to save Mary, give me five million.”

Anders quickly frowned.

“Second,” Sally said, “if you don’t give me five million, Mary will die tonight.”

Mary’s face turned deathly pale. She cried, “Anders, Anders… save me, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die…

Anders glanced at Mary and then looked at Sally with a fierce expression: “Are you threatening me?”

Sally sneered, “I’m giving you a choice: five million or a life. Decide.”

Anders suddenly laughed: “Five million? You only want five million?”

Sally was stunned.

“So, your son really has been kidnapped, Anders said with undisguised disdain. “You’re willing to threaten me for a bastard child, ha…”

Sally’s hand started to tremble.

What did he mean? Was he unwilling to give the money?

Sally couldn’t help but mock him: “Aren’t you supposed to be so affectionate? Now, your beloved woman is in my hands. What? Is Mary worth less than five million to you?”

Anders’s eyes darkened.

Suddenly, he lunged forward like a swift leopard!

Caught off guard, Sally loosened her grip, and the fruit knife was kicked out of her hand by Anders!

“Ah–Sally fell to the ground in a mess.

*Anders, I’m so scared, so scared- Mary collapsed into Anders’s arms.

Anders gently comforted Mary, then coldly looked at Sally, who was sitting on the floor in pain.

“You despicable woman, you’ll stop at nothing to get money! You…” Anders wanted to say more, but Sally was clutching her stomach in pain.

She curled up, looking pitiful.

Anders paused.

What was this woman up to now?

“It hurts Sally knew her stomach problems had become severe!

She shakily took out a bottle of medicine from her pocket and swallowed a few pills.

Anders watched her with a strange expression.

She had mentioned before that she was unwell, but…

Anders quickly dismissed the thought.

She had to be faking it!

Sally would do anything to gain his sympathy.

“Sir, what should we do with her?” Barlow came over and asked.

Anders had initially wanted to send Sally to the police, but seeing her in pain on the floor stirred an odd feeling in him.

“Forget it, throw her out,” Anders said, holding Mary. “Don’t let her in again.”

Barlow quickly did as he was told.

Sally lay by the mansion gate for a long time before gathering enough strength to stand up.

She looked at the dark night sky, feeling utterly desolate.

Was she really not going to be able to come up with the five million?

Sally walked through the bustling streets, tears streaming down her face unnoticed by the hurried passersby,

She was numb with grief, thinking of going back to her place to figure something out, when she unexpectedly ran into Laura!

Laura seemed to be sneaking out. She was wary of her surroundings, and upon seeing Sally on the roadside, she widened her eyes in surprise.

“Sally?” Laura ran over to Sally, grabbing her hand tightly. “What are you doing here? I was just about to look for you!”

Laura quickly noticed the tear stains on Sally’s face.

“What happened?” Laura asked, surprised.

Sally shook her head and then asked, “Laura, why were you looking for me?”

Laura awkwardly placed her hand on her stomach.

Sally looked down and exclaimed in surprise: “You are you pregnant?”

Thinking of Laura’s husband, who was paralyzed in a wheelchair, Sally was shocked.

Was the child in Laura’s belly her husband’s?

Laura didn’t want to explain her situation and instead took out a warm bank card and pressed it into Sally’s hand.

“What are you doing?” Sally was astonished.

Laura said softly, “Andy is sick, and I can’t help much more. This is my extra savings to the

dollars. The PIN is your birthday. Use it for Andy’s treatment.”

“What?” Sally couldn’t believe that Laura was still thinking of Andy at a time like this!

“No, Laura…” Sally tried to push the card back, “You’ve worked so hard to save this money. Keep it for yourself!”

Sally had barely managed to save enough for Andy’s treatment, but now Andy was kidnapped, and she needed more money!

But Laura’s life was already tough enough. How could she take her money?

Moreover, Jack was a volatile man. If he found out Laura gave her money, he wouldn’t spare her!

Laura insisted on giving her the card: ‘Sally, we’ve been friends for so many years. If you don’t take this money, Ill be upset.”

Tears in her eyes, Sally accepted the card: “Okay, Laura. Once Andy is better, I’ll pay you back as soon as possible.”

“Alright….” Laura was about to say more when a shrill voice interrupted: “Well, well, you sneaky woman! So this is where you’ve been!”

Both women were stunned, and Laura’s eyes quickly filled with terror.

Sally saw a burly middle–aged woman storming towards them with two bodyguards in tow.

It was Laura’s mother–in–law, Hannah.

Laura had been coming and going a lot lately, which made Hannah very unhappy. Remembering her son’s warnings, she became more suspicious of Laura.

Seeing Laura chatting with another woman on the street made Hannah furious.

“Jack’s at home with no one to take care of him, and fiere you are, wandering around!” Hannah grabbed Laura’s hair without warning!

“Ah–Laura cried out in pain.

Sally rushed forward to pull Hannah away: “What are you doing? Don’t hit her!”

The bodyguards quickly stepped in and pulled Sally aside.

“What are you doing!” Hannah yelled at Sally. “Instead of getting a proper job, you’re dragging my daughter- in–law out to chat! Hmph! What are you even worth?”

Sally argued with her, and Hannah let go of Laura’s hair glaring at her: “Jack’s at home with no one to take care of him, and you’re out here? Get back home!”

Sally angrily said, “Laura has the right to go wherever she wants! How can you disregard her feelings like this?”

Hannah glared at Sally: “You young fool, when did you get a say in our family’s affairs? Get lost!” “You..” Sally was about to argue further, but Laura tearfully held her back.
