The Treasure Hunter and The Mirror

Chapter 3

Finding the legendary mirror was one thing getting there was certainly another. It was quite the ways away from where he was. He estimated it had been about 300 light years away from where he was when he discovered it, as such it would take them 30 years to get there at his ship’s top speed. This meant he had to go in hyper-sleep.

He explained this to Tonya and she didn’t mind, she was in fact excited enough they made wild passionate love as the capsule they slept in began to do its sleeping sequence. They had woken up what felt like 2-3 hours later but they both knew it had been 30 years that they were in hyper sleep. Once out of his hyper-sleep hangover as Walter called it, Walter began to look at the readings and see how far he was from this belt of the hunter.

A short while later Walter was surprised to see a planet in the habitable zone of the center star. Alnib, he thought the star was called. This was not really a surprise to Walter, but he still was surprised that his star charts didn’t show a planet here in this part of the constellation.

This planet was considerably smaller than his home planet. It was probably the same size as the moon back home called Tess. Walter looked at the planet and he started to look at the read outs from the computer. It definite had an atmosphere that was made mostly of Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Carbon. Walter was glad he didn’t need to put a space suit on to go down on the surface.

Now the question was where the mirror was. Walter looked away from the readings and headed back to his research. He knew that somewhere he would find something that would tell him where this mirror was.

Reading over the legend of the mirror and where it was placed was like reading an exact account of things that transpired. The amount of detail in the legends he was reading were written as if they were written by someone was there at the time that the mirror was on Gaia and at the time that it was moved to this planet, apparently called Asgard. That didn’t make any sense to Walter because the planet of Gaia was apparently destroyed trillions of years ago and it was moved what seemed like only millions of years ago to this planet called Asgard.

The mirror was part of a massive transport of things from this planet named Gaia to other places in the universe. At some point the mirror and the temple it was in and the mirror itself was transported to different planets. Apparently, there was fear someone would try using it for evil purposes. The mirror and the shrine eventually made its way to this planet. Why this planet? Walter had no idea.

Walter followed the instructions. Some of it looked like coordinates. It was a remarkable form of codes that hid the coordinates. Walter had never seen such a code before. It was interesting because in the code was the means to decipher the code. Upon first looking at this description of where the mirror was hidden an untrained observer would think just that, it was just a very verbose description of where the mirror was. However, Walter was used to looking at codded messages in finding his treasures, so he was astute to be able to figure it out.

It was quite an interesting way to decipher it, in the very verbose description of the location of the mirror lay the means to decipher the code hidden in the description. Essentially every there was the mention of the name of the mirror and the temple it was in (and there was a lot) then this was your indicator that these descriptions had the coordinates of where to find them.

The way to decipher the code was simple enough, in the description itself it mentioned how to do it. For example, the first coded description was:

“Above the eye of the

Mountain that the mirror is in

One finds the entrances to the temple.”

It was written exactly like that. Walter realized that it was referring the letter “I” in the word mountain. Above the “I” in this case was the letter “E”. Then the second part of the part of the code is “is in one” and “the entrances to the temple.” So, the secret message was “Above the E of the mountain is one of the entrances of the shrine.” The E clearly meant “East.” So, Walter looked for some Eastern mountains on this planet.

Walter found Eastern Mountains quite easily. To the southeast of the planet were these massive valleys of mountains, and he looked above these eastern mountains. There was a dessert area of the planet. Walter looked back at the description and tried to decipher the rest of the code.

“Below that what you see lies

The temple of the mirror”

Walter thought that was an easy one. Walter looked at the map of the planet and sure enough right smack dab in the middle of this dessert was what looked like an oasis. This was clearly the “Sea” it was talking about.

After a while Walter deciphered the whole coordinates of the shrine.

“Above the Eastern Mountains are entrances of the shrine of the mirror. To find this seek below that sea in which lies the temple of the mirror. To enter the temple, one must travel through the unforgiving desert.” Walter felt it unnecessary to decipher the rest of the code.

Walter looked at the desert he scanned it with his computer. He looked for any ridges anything that could be a temple. Soon he found it. Walter saw an entrance in the dessert floor.

“Eureka!” Walter said.

“You found it?” Tonya said behind him.

“Yes, I did,” Walter said.
