The Transfer

Chapter 13 - The Day

I woke early the next morning. The rain had stopped and Kade had told me the night before that if it had, training would go on. I was ready to get dirty in the mud and I was ready to kick some ass out there.

I slipped on clothes and happily skipped out my room. I entered the kitchen where Jenny was. She was buttering toast and humming softly. The song she was singing sounded familiar and it suddenly brought sadness to my wolf.

But as I listened, I couldn't figure out what it was that she was singing. It was right on the tip of my tongue but I couldn't put my finger on it. I sighed.

"What song is that?" I asked her softly. She turned around to face me, smiling weakly.

"A song that I heard while I was away. I thought it was beautiful. You know it?" She cocked her head at me. I nodded my head at her.

"I think. What's it from?" I asked her again. She smiled some more and bit into her toast.

"You know that film, called 'Holes'? The one about the boys who were sent away to the middle of nowhere to dig holes?" She asked me. It snapped in my mind and I suddenly remembered.

It was the song from my favourite childhood movie. The song was so familiar because my mother used to sing it to me. Every night before bed up until I was eleven. I can almost hear her voice singing it to me now.

"My mother used to sing it to me when I was little. It was my lullaby,” I said to Jenny. She smiled weakly at me and nodded knowingly.

"Well I have a run to go on. I'll see you after I finish my training,” I changed the subject quickly. Jenny nodded at me.

"Ezra is out with the tracker wolves scouting the area

If you see him, tell him that I want his hide back in this kitchen,” Jenny told me before I could walk away. I giggled and nodded at her.

I slipped out the cabin and met Lila and Brayleigh by the trail we ran. They greeted me with wide smiles and then we took off. We decided not to run in our fur, seeing at it was miserable outside and the ground was slippery.

I didn't mind though. I liked the mud. I used to play outside in the mud with my brothers as a kid all the time. My mother would be so angry with us when he came inside for lunch covered from head to toe in mud. But she always laughed and then bathed us anyway.

"So have you thought about what you're gonna do about leaving yet?" Brayleigh asked me as we ran. I sighed at the thought and realised that I needed to talk to Beckett. If Henry wanted an answer, I had to give it to him quick.

"Yap. I've thought about it and I still don't know. I'm going to talk to Beckett about it. I have to go back to fill in as Beta female but I don't want to. Terialta doesn't make me happy anymore. I was kind of thinking that if things don't work out, that I could go and join the Uncle's pack up in the falls,” I explained to them both. Lila groaned and pouted. Brayleigh just looked upset.

"You could stay here! It would be the best for you! You love everyone here,” Lila pleaded. I shrugged at her as I ran

"I'm not sure yet, Lila. As I said, I'm going to talk to Beckett about it. I know that all the other boys will want me to go home, but I know that he'll give me his honest opinions,” I stated quickly. I didn't want to leave Lila and Brayleigh. I was so close with them and leaving felt wrong. Plus, that pull between Lila and I make my stomach knot when I thought about leaving.

I truly didn’t know want I was going to do. There were so many options and I could only pick one. "Just at least think about staying here. We all want you to," Brayleigh suggested. I nodded at her. I would think had about staying in Terialta. I really wanted to stay here but I didn't know if I could. My beast whined. We were torn. Still.

After our run, Lila and I split from Brayleigh and found Alfie who was standing by some rings. He was talking to some other wolves, one of which was Brayleigh's mother.

"This mud will be terrible for open wounds! You can't let them fight in the dirt. They'll get infected gashes,” Cameron said to Alfie, who just shrugged.

"It'll teach them to toughen up," Alfie said quickly. Cameron huffed angrily and stalked away back to the infirmary. She didn't seem happy and I made Lila and I giggle. She was much like Brayleigh. "Morning girls. Let's get straight into it. Lila, I want you over there with Austin. Ali, you're sparring with Kade today," Alfie said as he saw us. I waved goodbye to Lila as she walked over to Austin. I followed Alfie towards the rings.

I was getting better at fighting. There were a few times where I almost beat Kade. I had yet to best him in a fight, but I was getting closer to it. He struggled to overpower me now.

"I hate this. It's cold!" Kade complained as we stepped into the ring. I rolled my eyes at him and Alfie scoffed.

"Stop being a pussy, boy. I raised you as a wolf, not a bloody cat!" Alfie scolded his son. This made me laugh and Kade lunged at me.

I dodged out the way and nailed him in the side. He winced and held his side as he stepped away from me. He lunged for me again and this time I used his weight against him. I grabbed his arm and tugged him into the dirt.

Kade growled at me and tugged his arm back aggressively. I chuckled as he got up. His shirt was dirty now. He didn't look happy about it.

Kade punched me in the gut and then in the chin. It hurt and I felt my mouth begin to ache but I didn't stop. I threw myself at him. I slammed my shoulder into his chest and then swing at his cheek. He blocked my punch and shoved me back. I landed hard on my ass and grunted. Kade growled again, a warning that we shouldn't try again. But I was going to.

I got up and swung at him. This time, I punched him in the nose. But he was quick to retaliate. He hit me in the sternum and I felt the wind get knocked out of me. I clenched my fists and held my breath as I blocked another one of his punches

I got my breath back and inhaled deeply. That hurt!

I growled at him and threw a punch. He grabbed my arm and I fell forwards. Kade held me tight, so I stomped on his toes. He yelped and jumped back, but not fast enough.

I knocked him to the ground and we both we tumbling onto the dirt. I punched Kade in the cheekbone and he returned the blow by slamming his elbow into my mouth. He tossed me to the side and I rolled. I grunted and spat blood.

My lip was split and it was stinging painfully. My eyes sting from trying not to cry but my wolf growled and we felt better.

I kicked out Kade's leg hard. He fell to one knee and I brought his face down on my hard knee. He groaned in pain and blood began to spill from his nose. I went to punch him, but he grabbed my fist and pulled me down, elbowing me hard in the ribs. I heaved out and pulled my legs up, wrapping them around his torso and throwing him at my feet.

I got up fast and so did Kade.

"Shift," Alfie said.

I tore forwards, shifting into my wolf. We knocked Kade to the ground before he could shift. We clawed him in the belly and he grunted and used all his strength to push us away. He got up and shifted fast.

Kade and I pounced at each other. He took a hard bite out of my shoulder and I yelped. I clawed his side as we hit the ground hard. I got up immediately and circled him.

My shoulder throbbed so badly that I felt like it might fall off. It was sore and I hated it. It made me angry.

This male wasn't winning. No way.

I threw myself at Kade. His wolf snapped at me and I moved to the side to avoid his teeth. He clawed my back hard instead and and swiped his paw across my cheek. It stung and began to bleed instantly.

My wolf growled at him so we jumped on his back. We bit onto his shoulder and clawed ruthlessly at his back until he dropped to the ground and rolled over. He crushed our leg underneath his heavy body. I held back a loud yelp.

He bit at my ribs, tearing away with a chunk of my skin and fur. I growled as he tossed it to the side carelessly. I got up and growled again.

I was done playing games. I didn't want to play around anymore.

Kade jumped at me. I dodged out the way and he crashed into the mud hard. I spun around and pounced on him. I clawed his side again and then stood on his paw and clamped my jaw around his neck.

Kade squirmed and then he sighed and thrust his neck towards me as best as he could. I released him and stepped away.

My beast wanted to how! in joy.

We had just won our first fight.

Kade shifted back and pulled on a pair of shorts. He was bleeding pretty badly around his torso but he didn't look angry or upset. He was smiling.

"Nice job, Ali!" Alfie grinned as he rushed towards me with a baggy shirt. I nodded my head at him and looked back to Kade. He was still smiling as he walked over to Alfie and I.

"Nice one, Ali. You deserved that win. After me putting your ass in the dirt so many times, I think it was time that you won,” Kade nodded his head at me. My beast swirled with pride and we nodded back at him.

"You've got the rest of the day off. Nice job kiddo. Tell Jenny that we're coming for dinner, by the way," Alfie told me as he motioned me in the direction of the infirmary. I nodded my head again as I turned and walked back to the infirmary with my shirt in my mouth.

A different nurse tended to my injuries this time. She worked cautiously around me, almost like she was scared to be near me. She looked intimidated and flinched every time I moved.

After I was fixed up, I left the imfirmary and headed back to my cabin. I couldn't wait to tell Ezra and Jenny that I had won my first fight.

Against Kade too!

I chuckled to myself as I walked into the cabin. I shut the door behind me and walked through the house. Jenny was sitting at the dining room table with a coffee and a hell lot of paper work.

"Jenny! Guess what?" I beamed as I rushed over to her. She looked up and stared at me. "I just bested Kade!"

Jenny's eyes lit up with excitement and she got up from her chair. She squealed like a child and then hugged me tightly. She held me tight.

"Well done, Ali! That's amazing. Ezra and I will cook you up something real special for dinner tonight as a reward,” Jenny winked at me as she released me. I nodded eagerly at her.

"Alfie said he was coming for dinner by the way. I'm assuming he's bringing Kade and his mate, too," I told her. She nodded at me and stood up, beginning to put away her paper work.

"I'm truly very proud of you, Ali. You've come a very long way compared to what Ezra told me,” Jenny told me. I smiled and nodded at her. "Get your smelly ass out of here. Go take a shower and then come help me make dinner.”

I grinned at Jenny and nodded as I turned around and headed down the hallway towards the bathroom. The smile didn't leave my face for the rest of the day.
