The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn

Chapter 9

She had blown Ean up in the game, and she was currently being sniped to death by someone in real life.

Ean resisted the urge to trample Suzy to death. Surprisingly, his next words were said to protect her, "I've finished my homework, Uncle George!"

George was a little surprised, his long eyes glancing over at Suzy's face as he walked toward the desk. "Let me have a look."

Ean took out his homework for George to look through. Sure enough, they were all done and marked. Even the wrong answers had been corrected. He even made a summary of some of the answers. George became more and more surprised as he turned to look at Suzy.

Suzy's big pair of eyes looked directly at him calmly. "I promised Ean to play games with him after he finished his homework."

George's lips curled into a half-smile. He placed the homework down and said to Ean, "Not bad. Continue with your game!"

After speaking, he walked out of the room.

Suzy motionlessly breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Ean as if she had found a new lease of life.

Ean chuckled at her mockingly. "Are you that afraid of my uncle?"

Suzy blurted out, "Are you not?"

Ean raised his eyebrows. "My uncle will probably give me a smack if he's mad enough, but he won't lay a finger on you. What are you afraid of?"

"I..." Suzy was choked up and said embarrassingly, "Who said anything about being afraid of him?"

Ean looked at her teasingly.

Suzy picked up the phone irritably and said, "Stop talking about your uncle. Let's continue."

Ean flipped his tablet and threatened her, saying, "If you blast at me again, I'll shoot you to death first!"

Suzy smiled at him guiltily and said, "I won't. I won't."

...

When Suzy was leaving, she did not see George around anymore, and it was the driver who drove her back. When she left the villa, her mood suddenly brightened up. There were some people out there who could make others feel pressured just by being in the same room.

George did not go out all morning. During lunchtime, there were dozens of dishes presented on the huge dining table. However, only George and Ean were eating. George had a few spoonfuls of chicken soup first before placing his spoon down and asking, "How's the new teacher?"

"Not bad!" Ean nodded.

George chuckled lightly. "Is it because she played games with you?"

Ean disagreed with him. "There were many others who were willing to play games with me, but I've never said that they're not bad!"

He looked rather arrogant when he continued to say, "Actually, I just took pity on her!"

"Why so?" George asked casually.

Ean frowned and said, "She had no parents growing up and only one grandfather who's currently ill."

George raised his eyebrows. "Did she tell you that?"

"Mm-hmm!"

"You can't let her stay just because of this. I hired her to be your tutor, not to do charity." The man's tone sounded light. Ean thought for a while and said, "It's not entirely because of this. I'm also able to understand the things she teaches me." "Hmm?" George did not say anything else and merely added, "Since you can learn well under her, then that's settled." Ean nodded in agreement.

George suddenly felt that whether Suzy was truly pitiful or sold herself as pitiful, she was still somewhat a capable woman.

...

Suzy sat in the Laine family's car and got out of the River University's main gate. Then, she took the bus back to the villa that was in the middle of the mountain.

After the bus passed the eastern suburbs, the road gradually widened with green trees on both sides. It was a large forest park. When one looked around this area, one could see the famous Cecil Lake in River City and the rows of hills on the other side of the lake.

The high-end villas were hidden among the green trees with beautiful scenery and fresh air. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the city center, this was akin to paradise on earth.

When she went to get her car, Nelly, from the dessert shop, called out to her. "Suze, come over and have a sit for a while!"

"Sure thing!" Suzy responded to her.

Upon entering the store, she noticed there were not many customers. They were sitting in the corners in twos and threes. Nelly pulled Suzy over to sit on a wooden chair by the floor-to-ceiling window. "Wait here!"

A glass vase was placed on the log table, and inside the vase was a blooming yellow daisy, which was very suitable for today's fresh weather.

Nelly came over with a wooden tray and placed the desserts on the tray on the table one by one. There was a yellow peach pudding, a chocolate mousse, and a large cup of passion fruit iced tea.

Suzy's eyes were dazzling. Everything here was her favorite.

"Eat up. It's all yours!"

Nelly had a round face and big eyes. She wore black-framed glasses and showed two dimples whenever she smiled. She looked incredibly adorable. Suzy pulled the pudding toward her, picked up the spoon, and started eating.

Nelly supported her cheeks with her palms as she looked at Suzy with a smile.

Whenever Suzy went out, she would park her electric scooter outside the dessert shop. Over the course of time, the two of them became friends. "You can go on your internship this summer, right, Suze? Have you thought about what you're gonna do?" Nelly asked.

Suzy held the spoon and shook her head. "I haven't thought about that yet."

"Then do you have a dream? Or perhaps is there something you'd like to do?"

Suzy pondered it and said with a serious expression, "I'd like to buy Green Garden."

She liked Green Garden, but it did not belong to her. If she were to divorce George Laine, Suzy would have to move out of here.

Nelly knocked on the table and said, "Can you think of something more practical?"

Suzy stopped talking and started to eat the cake after finishing the pudding.

"By the way, Suze, have you ever met George Laine while you were working in Green Garden?" Nelly asked suddenly, trying to gossip.

Nelly had always assumed that Suzy was a working student who was perhaps working as a maid in Green Garden to earn money for her tuition fees. Suzy replied truthfully, "Nope."

"Oh?" Nelly held onto her chin. "That's such a shame!"

Belly studied architectural design. It was said that the mid-mountain villa in Green Garden was designed and built by George Laine, so she had always admired him.

The two chatted for a while before Suzy got up to head back home. Nelly gave her another cake to bring home.

As she held onto the cake, Suzy rode on her small electric scooter around Secloud Road and entered Green Garden.

Green Garden was a privately-owned hill.

On both sides of the mountain road were towering avenue trees that blocked out the sky and the sun, completely shielding those under from the sunlight. Once one entered the green road, the heat would disappear and they would instantly feel refreshed.

The villa was located in the middle of the mountain. When the small scooter rode over, the carved iron gates automatically opened on both sides.

Inside the villa area, there was a large number of neatly built lawns, greenhouses, and century-old flower trees... To the right side of the bluestone road was the main house area, which was more of a modern style. Through the large floor-to- ceiling windows, Suzy could see Parsi lying on the pure white carpet.

Seeing her enter the door, Parsi quickly ran out in excitement.

Suzy crouched down and hugged Parsi. While thinking of George's current dog, she felt a little distressed and patted the cake box in her hand. "I'll share half of this with you!"

Parsi grew even more excited and kept circling Suzy.

After entering the house, before Ms. Wolly could come out of the kitchen, Parsi had already brought the house slipper over with its mouth. It was waiting for Suzy to change out of her shoes. "Why are you being so good today?" Suzy smiled at Parsi.

Ms. Wolly came out and took the cake from Suzy's hand while saying with a chuckle, "Ms. Suzy, if you want cake, you should just let me know instead. The ones sold outside won't be as good."

"This was given by Nelly," Suzy explained. Wolly liked making all kinds of snacks for her and would prefer it if she did not eat out.

Ms. Wolly knew who Nelly was, so she simply smiled and nodded. "Then I'll have Lionel bring some fresh fruit for Nelly when he goes out tomorrow."

"Please feel free to do so," said Suzy with a smile. Then, she brought Parsi and went up the stairs.

After taking a shower, she was eating the cake with Parsi when she heard a phone call. Suzy glanced at it and picked it up, "Hey, JK."

"What are you up to?" The man's voice was low and magnetic with hints of an imperceptible smile.

"Eating." Suzy licked the cream on her fingers.

"Madam Veronica from the Fawn family called today and asked the King to design a jadeite necklace for her. She started the bid at 1.5 million dollars for only the design fee."

Suzy raised her eyebrows. "Madam Veronica from the Fawn family? She's being quite generous this time around."

Madam Veronica was a high-level VIP of GK jewelry store. She came from a modeling background. Although she had married into a wealthy family, her behavior and style were somewhat petty. The woman would only buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry but would bicker incessantly with the shopkeeper for packaging that cost a hundred dollars. What was with the sudden change of temperament?

"Next month will be Madam Eliza Fawn, the eldest madam of the family's, 80th birthday. It will soon be time to divide the family assets. I suppose if Madam Veronica wants to get a share of the pie, she must find a way to please the old lady. Do you have the time? Would you like to accept this request?"

Suzy chuckled. "Of course. Why shouldn't I when there's money involved? One month is enough time for me."

"Mm. Then I'll call her back tomorrow." Jordy Koski paused and asked, "When are you coming to the design studio?"

Suzy had a yogurt drink straw on her pink lips. She gave it a thought before saying, "Maybe the weekend. We'll see if I have the time."

"Okay. I'll wait for you!"
