The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 431

Chapter 431

"Don't worry. I'll spend the rest of my life with you," Dylan said softly.

Was that a promise? It was a promise, wasn't it?

Jean stood across from him, suddenly unsure. Her mouth opened slightly as she stared at Dylan in disbelief.

"No matter what, we'll get married and grow old together. That's my promise to your father, and I'll definitely keep it. But I really have to go now to attend to some matters. If you don't want to leave yet, feel free to keep shopping. I'll see you tonight."

With that, Dylan walked away.

This time, Jean didn't stop him. She stayed rooted to the spot, as if frozen in place, unable to move.

So, it was a promise!

But a promise made to Brian-no, it wasn't so much a promise as it was a condition.

Dylan said he would spend his life with her, and then what? What about the rest? Just a life together, but never any affection-was that what he meant?

This realization left Jean speechless, the pain in her chest unbearable. But soon, a name surfaced in her mind Noelle.

Why did Dylan react this way? Wasn't it because of Noelle?

Yes! It was all because of Noelle! Everything was because of her!

Noelle quickly returned to Nivis Villa. Although she had bought a lot of things at the mall, they were all everyday items-hardly suitable as a birthday gift. So, after getting home, she began browsing online for ideas.

She was so absorbed that she didn't even notice when Hendrix walked in.

"What are you looking at?" his voice suddenly rang out.

Noelle snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at him.

"Are you buying something?" Hendrix asked seriously, having only caught a glimpse of the web page. "Not really," she replied quickly, turning off her phone screen. "When did you get back?"

"Just now. I have a work dinner tonight, so I'll be heading out again."

He headed toward the walk-in closet as he spoke.

Then, as if remembering something, he added, "You went for a checkup today, right? Everything went well?"

Noelle paused, then nodded. "Yes. The baby's doing fine."

"Yup, I already know. The doctor told me so."

By then, Hendrix had entered the walk-in closet.

Noelle glanced at the coat he had taken off and suddenly said, "I ran into Ms. Fisher at the mall today. She told me something."

"Which Ms. Fisher are we talking about?" Hendrix paused mid-action, as if realizing something. "You mean Jean?

"Yeah."

"Was she alone?" Hendrix's voice tightened, his eyes fixed on her.

"Dylan was with her," Noelle replied before she quickly changed the topic. "Aren't you curious about what she told me?"

"What?"

Hendrix looked at her, but Noelle knew his concern wasn't about what she was going to say. No, it was the mention of Dylan's name that caught his attention.

Not caring one bit about his feelings, Noelle said, "She told me you took another woman to a hotel." As soon as the words left her mouth, Hendrix froze.
