The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 141

Chapter 141

"You're talking nonsense!" Sandra blurted angrily. "Stop trying to drive a wedge between Hendrix and me. I know you're jealous, but-"

"It's true Beatrice asked Hendrix to marry me in the first place. But the problem is, he didn't stand his ground, either. Maybe, to him, it's all the same who he marries. More importantly, if Hendrix likes you, do you really think he'll let you get engaged to Maxwell?

"Oh, Sandra, you shouldn't underestimate how possessive man can be. All this just means he doesn't like you as much as you think. Besides, I'm no longer with him, which makes everything you're doing now even more pointless," said Noelle in one breath.

Sandra's expression darkened. She just sat there, with her chest heaving violently, staring daggers at Noelle.

Noelle didn't bother to say anything more. Instead, she ordered the driver in front to stop the car. The driver didn't answer. Nonetheless, the car slowly came to a stop.

"So what if what you're saying is true? You've already been disgraced. I'd like to see just how long you can continue to put up a brave face!" said Sandra, just as Noelle was about to get out of the car. Although Noelle paused for a second, she didn't turn around to look at Sandra. Instead, she continued to walk away. It was also then that she received a call from Brandon

"Where are you?" he asked.

Listening to his voice and recalling Sandra's words from earlier, Noelle suddenly felt a wave of nausea. Even though she knew Sandra's words couldn't be fully trusted, it was still difficult to pin down everything that had happened tonight as a coincidence.

However, Noelle no longer wanted to think about it, so she immediately hung up the call after taking a glance the caller ID.

Brandon quickly called her a second time, then a third.

It wasn't until Noelle had hailed a taxi and gotten into it that she finally answered Brandon's call. "Noelle," said Brandon, a hint of anxiety in his voice. "Where are you? You-"

"I'm on my way home. I'm sorry that I didn't wait for you."

"It's okay. I... I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have brought you there tonight. Are you hurt?" The anxiety in Brandon's voice became even more pronounced.

Noelle simply smiled sarcastically. "I'm fine."

"But I'm still really worried about you. I'm going over to your place now, so let's meet up, okay?" said Brandon firmly, leaving Noelle no choice but to concede.

Soon, the taxi arrived at Serene Street. Noelle saw Brandon the moment she stepped out of the taxi. He looked utterly defeated with a cigarette dangling from his fingers, while his other hand tugged at his hair in frustration. He immediately looked up when he heard Noelle's approaching footsteps.

"Noelle!"

"It's late, Mr. Quinlan. Why do you want to meet up?" Noelle kept her eyes on him while calmly taking a few steps back. The distance between them was immediately widened

Brandon could clearly see her reluctance, causing his mouth to tighten.

"Did Sandra send you back? What did she say to you?" he asked.

"Are you worried that she might have told me something she shouldn't have Brandon was speechless.

Noelle stood unwavering, her gaze locked onto his, as if waiting for him to answer.
