The Sun God Diaries

Chapter Chapter Two: Friends, Mates, and Drama

Now, what can I say about my best friends?

First off, there’s Vincenzo Paulo. The son of both Yesenia and Armando (both werewolves), he’s the one lone member of the royal staff to go to my school and be my best friend and godbrother. He and I basically grew up side by side and he (when not dragged around by his father, being the star soccer player, or hanging out with my brothers) is one of the most modest and sweetest Alpha teens in school.

Then you have the Zallenda brother-sister duo known as Carson and Floriana of the Four Aces werewolf pack. And since most of y’all know my dad’s story with how he had Auntie Ciara and her late parents and friends to show some love, then you know that those two are also my god-siblings and the two of them are like yin and yang with Floriana’s Alpha female blood taking down bullies and Carson (named after Dad) was the sweetest omega who could make anyone laugh.

Next comes Mia Albritton-Hedare, heiress-apparent to the Altimare hunting dynasty AND the daughter of Bianca Albritton (Dad’s personal bodyguard and close friend). She, alongside her godsister Charissa Dwyer (the daughter of another close friend and bodyguard of Dad’s), made sure that Omegas weren’t harassed and were twice as bad as my brothers- but also loved karaoke and home-cooked food.

Persephone Suarez is the daughter of the timeless and ageless Dame Valentina Suarez, one of the founders of the Supernatural Council. And she was as glamorous as she was bossy (in a good way) and street-smart. And yes, she could hold her own- had to, since her mom married Clayton Draper (yet another friend and bodyguard of Dad’s).

Last comes Travis Joneslake-Burke and his female cousin Sapphire Skye-Alamendarez, the rambunctious phoenix duo who can read any hater for filth, make any school or family event look glamorous (thanks to their dads- my uncles- Topaz Skye [Radio host] and Eurydice Joneslake [Luna of the Winged Victory Phoenix community]) and get the gang back in order when trouble brewed.

And when it came to all of them, they made sure to keep me grounded and not put on any airs despite knowing of my royal heritage.

And as I joined them for lunch after the first half of classes was finished (with extra homework, ugh), I knew that the hot topic for today was me turning the big 1-8 this weekend. “So, Kai,” Sapphire purred delightfully as she finished her chocolate smoothie. “Word on the street tells me that your family is planning on the big celebrations for you and your brothers’ big birthday bash. I bet you know what that will also mean.”

“Obviously,” Charissa agreed, nodding her head while picking at her bowl of salad. “It’ll be time for you to find your mate. And all bets are placed on who it might be or who it will already be known.”

“Don’t remind me,” I replied unhappily. “Dad and my fathers were all but happy to remind me to settle down with the Magnificent Eight as soon as possible. And what’s worse is that I’ll be spending more time with them and less time with y’all, especially with Homecoming plans coming up. I mean, come on. Eight Alpha Jocks for me to be harangued and treated like fragile glass?! I don’t know how Dad could handle that.”

“But you already know of Uncle Carson’s story and how he went from a comatose and rejected omega back in our pack to what he is today,” Floriana reminded me. “Mom and Dad already told you the story over and over again.”

“Who can forget it?” I exclaimed. “It’s been drilled in mine and my brother’s head since we were toddlers. Dad was rejected by Aunt Ciara’s douchebag brother and then exiled out of the pack. He went into a deep coma for four or five weeks- give or take a few- after losing his supposed girlfriend and her kid to a car crash on the way to their wedding. He found out that he was a Moon Wolf alongside Iain and Archer. Then came the lovelorn idiot who wanted to kill Dad and become an evil god. Dad and Fathers got married and had us. And the rest is history.”

“Then you already know that you need to accept the bond between you and whoever becomes your mate,” Carson (the caramel-skinned and statuesque omega) reminded me. “To reject the bond could spell a nightmare for us all. Your Great-Grandma knows that and so do you.”

“I know,” I commented. “I’m not too sure that having eight mates is something that I can handle, though. I mean, Dad and his mates could handle themselves. Me? I just want to wait until I’m actually sure that I can handle the bond.”

“You will,” Vincenzo told me, giving me a reassuring grin that calmed my nerves. “If anything, you might find someone who can love you for you. Just make sure to strap up when your heat begins. No need to have little ones running around the palace just yet.”

I frowned at that last sentence, pushing my still-unopened lunch to the side. “Thanks for ruining my appetite, Yanez,” I sassed.

“I’ll eat it, Omega,” sneered a female’s voice.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes as I saw Marissa DuMartel (the future Alpha of the Black Spade werecat-shifter pack) hover over me as she grinned at me with the same look that Abaddon and Azrael gives me when they were planning a prank on me. “What is it this time, DuMartel?” I said.

“As I said, I want your lunch,” the blonde said. “You’re too pathetically fat to eat it anyway. And tell Zallenda and the phoenix brats to hand over their desserts. I’m a big and growing Alpha and you omegas are too pathetic.”

“You got that right,” I heard Floriana mutter bitterly.

We omegas handed over our lunches to the waiting blonde femme-fatale (who could put away food like ten football teams and still remained skinny), who quickly gobbled them down in a heartbeat.

“Is that all?” I asked.

“Nope,” Marissa beamed. “I want to know when you can become my mate so I can fuck you and have you wait on me hand and foot.”

I gave her a pointed look. “Let me know when you see a tabby cat do the nasty with a poor rabbit while a bear and a chicken do ballroom dancing,” I commented. “Then we’ll talk.”

Marissa giggled. “Silly Omega,” she crooned. “Bears and chickens don’t ballroom dance and cats and rabbits can’t have sex.”

“And neither will we.”

Marissa glared me down yet kept her grin, the cafeteria suddenly growing quiet with all eyes focused on us- teachers, lunch ladies, and students alike- to see what will happen next. “Come on, DuBauer,” she purred seductively. “No one ever says ‘no’ to a DuMartel. Think about all of the prestige you can give me when I become a ruling queen. Think of all the little girls you’ll bear for me while I sell the boys off to slavery. Never say ‘no’ to me.”

“I believe that my mate just did,” came a booming male voice.

I whipped around to see the Magnificent Eight arrive at my table with Gabe, Mike, Taylor, Terrell, Kaden, and Clayton following suit. And none of them were happy to see Marissa trying to bully me into being her mate.

***********

A moment if you will, dear readers.

If you thought that the Elite Eight Alphas of LA (eight of my nine fathers) hated bullies like the late Regan Zallenda, were close to each other as friends and mates, and unconditionally loved Dad; then the Magnificent Eight Alphas were ten times that. Originally from DC, they came to Denver and became fast friends with my brothers and the apples of my fathers’ eyes. And yes, they were friends AND mates to each other but needed an Omega to fulfill their circle.

The Eight consisted of the following: Damian St. Matthews (Alpha werewolf), Ian Raynier (Alpha merman), Vincent Wesley-Shipp (Alpha Vampire), Isaiah Wayland (Alpha werecat), Nathaniel Barrow-Sloane (Alpha angel), Ivan Barrow-Samuels (Alpha demon and Nathaniel’s identical cousin), Thomas Ambrose Ellington (Alpha dragons shifter), and Yavier Machado (Alpha hellhound).

They were handsome. They were the gods of the aquatics teams. And at the moment, they hated Marissa on sight.

We now return to the storyline already in progress.

************

“Ah, the Magnificent Eight,” Marissa crooned sarcastically. “You guys here to watch me claim what’s mine?”

“We’re here to tell you to stand down and fuck off,” Yavier said in his rich Venezuelan accent. “You know that he’s ours, DuMartel.”

Marissa grinned wickedly, letting her eyes glow red. “He’s not anyone’s yet, hellhound,” she replied. “He’s still fair game and he will be mine! M-I-N-E. All MINE!”

When hell and half of the South Pacific freeze over, bitch. I stood up and faced down the blond bully. “Listen, tootsie roll,” I said calmly. “I get that you’re the future female Alpha of your pack, but you’re not my cup of tea or any beverage. If anything, you’re all that I despise and what I want in a mate...you ain’t got. So kindly make like the wind and-”

Before I knew it, her lips crashed onto mine as I tasted rotten eggs and week-old sandwiches. “Yuck! Bluck! I’ve been kissed by a foul-smelling Alpha hoe!” I screamed. “Get hot water! Get some disinfectant! Call 911! Call 911! Call 911!”

“Come on, Omega,” Marissa laughed heartily despite everyone else glaring at her, her Betas shaking their heads in dismay. “It was only a kiss!”

“A kiss that he didn’t allow!” Kaden yelled angrily just as Principal Andrews (a towering Alpha merman) stormed in with Marissa’s parents. “Principal Andrews, she kissed my brother without his consent and he’s still chaste! I want her out of here!”

“As you wish, Mr. DuBauer,” the principal said tersely. “Miss DuMartel, you’re expelled for harassing omegas and harassing the Royal Omega.”

Mr. DuMartel, a small omega werecat, gave me a sad look. “Come on,” he said. “I’ll escort you to the nurse’s infirmary.”

“No need,” commented Clayton, motioning for the Magnificent Eight. “My brother’s betrotheds will escort him.”

“But of course,” Mrs. DuMartel said. To me, “Your Grace, I am so sorry for my daughter’s actions. Rest assured that the council will deal with my daughter. And I’ll be talking to your parents about this.”

Ah. Fuck.

If my fathers get wind of this mess, then hell will be raised and I will be watched and guarded by the eight Alphas for sure. It wasn’t even Thursday and already this week is heading downhill.
