Chapter Chapter Four: Party Planning and Surprises Galore
The next day, I was in the parlor near my bedroom as I was having mid-afternoon tea with Adeline Bervais, one of Denver’s top event planners. “So, young man,” the leggy Korean-American began, pausing to bite into her cucumber sandwich, “things have been rather eventful for you yesterday. I can only imagine how you are handling everything.”
I nodded. “It’s been a whirlwind all right,” I agreed. “With me now set to be homeschooled through online courses and private tutors since the DuMartel disaster, I guess you can say that I need a break to prepare for my birthday celebrations.”
“I can’t agree more,” I heard the voice of my Heavenly Grandmother as she emerged from her ball of white light with the other supernatural gods and goddesses. “And it’s important that my great-grandson be mentally and emotionally calm for this weekend.”
“Your Grace,” Ms. Bervais and I said formally, dropping into curtseys and bows as the Moon Goddess (Trinity by name) and Her Siblings all took their seats.
“Anyway, we’re also here to talk with Malachi about his incoming destiny,” intoned Enya (the patron saint of the Gorgons and hunters). “Ms. Bervais, would you take a few to let us speak with Malachi?”
The event planner nodded, quietly leaving the parlor.
“Ah, Malachi,” crooned Seraphina (the goddess of the vampires) as she and Iapetus (the god of the seas and saint of the merpeople and silkies) enjoyed some scones. “You look more and more amazing with each day that you age.”
“But he will stop aging like his brothers and his family,” pointed out Iapetus. “But he is becoming a fine young man, my dear.”
“Agreed,” commented Sorunos (the god of fire, wrath, and power). “He reminds me so much of Carson with how they carry themselves with quiet dignity yet have an untapped power within them.”
“All the more reason for us to finally sit down with Malachi and let him know of his legacy,” my Great-Grandmother replied, giving me a small smile. “Malachi, you do remember that you and your brothers are Moon Wolf princes alongside Carson, Iain, and Archer. Correct?”
“Yes, Ma’am,” I replied.
“So formal,” commented Aurora (the goddess of the dawn, fey, and lovers). “Anyway, it was revealed to us that you, in particular, are also destined for one more legacy, one that will more than likely set in a new era for the supernaturals, but not without some dissent.”
That caught my attention as Dad and my nine fathers came into the room with Iain and Archer following behind them. “And that is?” I asked.
The Moon Goddess smiled brightly. You, Malachi Jean-Luc DuBauer, are destined to become the Sun God Wolf, the legendary and most-ignored deity that will come into fruition,” She intoned formally. “Anis, my brother. Tell him more.”
Anis (The Moon Goddess’s brother and my ninth father) nodded. “Malachi, the Sun God Wolf was originally bestowed upon me by my Sister, but it was agreed that I was not ready for such a role and I was told to become the Sun God as the demigod,” he began. “Many people believe that the Sun God Wolf is nothing more than a myth, something to give children easy dreams at night.”
“But there is so much more than that,” Vinitra (the goddess of the dragons and demons) added. “The Sun God Wolf is meant to reflect the voices of the Moon Goddess and also all that has been said and done. The Sun God Wolf is also the light for those who search for the truth and the patron for the innocent.”
I nodded. “So why do many people disbelieve?” I wanted to know.
“Mainly because of ignorance and cynical pride,” commented Vinzera (the goddess of the hellhounds). “That, and mainly because people do not want to see an eight god come amongst them, that we are better without an eighth deity.”
My eyes went wide. “So you guys mean that I’ll be a deity?” I asked in disbelief. “Wow. I mean, I don’t mean that I’m cynical or all that. It’s just a bit too much for me to comprehend.”
“We know,” Trinity replied, giving me a knowing look. “My child, your road to being a heavenly royal will not be as easy as your brothers. You will have to face down lots of haters, especially those here in Denver. But you will also be gifted with the secrets of our circle as well as have the love and supporters in your circle of family and friends.”
“Not only that, you will be bestowed thirteen mates,” commented Enya.
Cue the record scratch, folks. Pause the music, stop the presses, and hold the phone. “Excuse me, what?” I said.
“That would be correct, my child,” the Moon Goddess affirmed, Her eyes holding no lies. “You are gifted with thirteen mates, eight of them whom you already know.”
My stomach dropped low. “You don’t mean...”
“That’s right,” Aurora teased. “You are to be bonded with the Magnificent Eight Alphas from DC and you will feel the bond when you least expect it.”
Gulp.
“It’s a lot for you to take in, Malachi,” Sorunos assured me, “but you know that you can never fight the mating bond at all once it’s been blessed by your Great-Grandmother. Not many omegas and Alphas are lucky to find one another these days, especially since some of the omegas are rejected by Alphas and left to die by the bond breaking by the Alpha sleeping with someone else.”
“I know,” I said quietly, remembering Dad’s story. “I don’t intend to reject my mates, though. I’m just not sure if they can love me for who I am.”
“Ah, but a little faith can do a lot of wonders,” Seraphina piped up, pausing to sip on her cup of tea before she went on. “And, it’s important to remember to trust in yourself and to let things happen in due time. Continue to have faith and learn that you can accomplish so much more if you believe in the power that is bestowed upon you.”
I took in a deep breath, steadying my racing heart as I felt all eyes being focused on me. “Well, I can’t say that I’m not surprised,” I began. “If I can be honest right now, I’m far from ready to accept my role just yet. But I know that I need to at least learn to begin studying my heritage and learn all that I must. So I’m willing to do what I can and how much I can comprehend on my role as the Sun God Wolf.”
The Moon Goddess beamed, Her smile filling the room as my fathers and dad nodded. “That’s all you can do and all I ask of you,” she replied. “But I must warn you of something else, my son. There will be two stalkers who seek to claim what is not rightfully theirs. One will learn of his ways the hard way while the other will see reason before he goes too far. And there will be other threats to look out for, but you will know in due time.”
“Mother,” Dad asked. “Is it possible that Malachi begins to learn of his royal duties as soon as possible? With him turning eighteen this weekend and all that you have told him, it’ll be more imperative than ever for him to start learning his royal heritage.”
“It shall be so,” She replied. “He’ll also need to learn to fight and understand all of the ruling Alphas and Lunas in their packs, covens, communities, and other groups.”
“I’ll make some calls to the Hunters for combat training,” offered Iain.
“I’ll inform Eurydice and Topaz tomorrow,” Archer replied.
“Let us talk with the phoenixes and their children,” Seraphina replied firmly. “Malachi will need his friends more than ever once they learn of his legacy as we will inform them and their families.”
The gods and goddess stood forward as they began to fade back into the heavens. “Remember, Malachi, to trust in your family and friends,” my Great-Grandmother reminded me. “Trust in My plan for you as it has been planned for eons. And most of all, trust yourself.”
“I will,” I promised as I watched her disappear.
“This...is amazing,” Gavin commented as Ms. Bervais came back in. “Ms. Bervais, we’ll need to talk to you about-”
She cut him off. “I already know,” she said firmly. “I was told of the same thing and saw it all through the eyes of Enya. And I plan to keep it to myself.”
“Thank you, ma’am,” Francisco commented as he and the others left. “Malachi, we’ll talk later.”
Thirty minutes of party planning (I would have a Met-Gala themed party with a smaller crowd with my friends, family, and a select guest list of Alphas and Lunas with other celebrities with everyone dressed formally with jazz music, dancing, and a buffet/family-style banquet), and I was already back in my bedroom with wanting a bag of Smartfood Popcorn and a can of ginger ale at hand. My destiny and my knowledge of my mates...
Wow.
Just wow.
I can only imagine what else will be in store. “Oh, boy,” I muttered, reaching for my stash to grab my snack (a granola bar) and a drink (ginger ale). “Can anything else surprise me?”
A puff of blue smoke and I saw the effeminate and sharp-tongued blue-dressed and coffee-skinned djinn known as Thebes. “Ah, young Malachi,” he crooned in his musical accent. “The Moon Goddess has told me to tell you one important factor about your birthday celebration on Friday.”
“And that is?” I asked.
He smiled widely. “At midnight that night, you will shift into your species- werewolf, cat-shifter, vampire, merman, angel, demon, hellhound, dragon, and phoenix,” he replied. “You’ll also have three more sides including the legendary Sun God Wolf form and your demigod, but they will be apparent when you meet your other mates.”
He noticed my look of surprise. “Shocking, isn’t it? But never fear, my dear child. I will be there at the party alongside Hermes my master and all of the blue and indigo djinn will be by your side,” he assured me. “Remember what She has told you many times: trust in your family and friends, her plans that were made eons ago, and yourself. If you stay true to those as well as yourself, then nothing is impossible.”
“Thank you,” I replied softly, reaching into my secret stash to hand him a pack of Oreos. “For you, my friend.”
Thebes giggled gleefully. “I love these,” he purred. “And She wants to know if-”
I already had a feeling that my Great-Grandmother would want something to nibble on. I handed him a bag of M&Ms alongside a few other treats for the other deities. “Make sure that you give them these treats.”
“I will,” he promised me. “See you on your birthday, my child.” He nodded once before disappearing into a cloud of blue smoke.
Looks like I’ll also be shifting on my birthday. Let’s just hope I won’t ruin my new clothes for that night.
