The Sovereign Heir (Book 1)

Chapter 8 Summer 2020

These dummies kept coming every Friday for the past two summers, it was all the same. Greed, lust, plans to suppress me and the final straw was the vampire prince. Even though he kept it cool, and his thoughts composed, I felt nothing from him. He behaved like a perfect gentleman, until Bryant showed up, running late for this dinner and I’d make damn sure it was my last dinner!

This vampire prince lost it when he saw my brother, he was head over heels for Bryant. I have nothing against anyone gay or bisexual, which goes for supe or human. What I did have a problem with was the fact he came disguised as a potential suitor for my hand; as if being with a woman is his preference; clearly it wasn’t. This prince wasn’t even bisexual, he wanted nothing to do with any woman. All this facade while having the most lustful thoughts towards my brother was the final deception I could take.

I was actually able to force myself to stay the entire course. I sent what I saw to Bryant before I even thought of showing my parents. Bryant was not too happy with me for that, but I had to stifle a laugh. Hey, he bailed on me my first summer of this torture so why not spoil his dinner. The vampire prince began to speak, “Prince Bryant, if you don’t mind me asking, what is it you do to stay so … fit?” I was about to lose it when Bryant almost spit out his water. I never laughed so hard in my life. I quickly got my giggles under control after my mother reprimanded me.

I listened keenly as Bryant gave this prince the details. He was just eating it up with every syllable while having even more disturbing thoughts. I stuck around this time as my parents said their goodbyes. Before I could even orb out of there my mother blocks me. “Okay, young lady, what was up with this one and why the giggle fit?” I grab her hands and gave her a mindful; not skipping the details. “Oh my fucking god, that little blood sucking bastard. What a fucking little deceitful shit!” Bryant added his two cents, “More like cock sucker.” Mom snapped out of it quickly, “Watch it young man you aren’t eighteen yet.” He put his hands up in defense and orbs out of the room before I made my announcement.

“Little Traitor!” I mind link him. “Mom, I do not want to do this anymore, especially with the last dinner being with the Lycan princes. They have all been duds. Maybe it’s not my time yet or not at all. Could you please just cancel it, or can you make up an excuse I left for school early?”

“Sweetheart, the princes and Lycan king regent will still be coming regardless to discuss some important matters affecting the packs in the area recently as well as worldwide. Uncle Ken’s pack might not be vulnerable but many of the remote packs are. They have had some missing wolves of both genders and you may need to intercede with your legion.”

“Fucking great! Now I’m stuck mingling with them any damn way! This is straight bullshit! I don’t know if I can promise I won’t snap like I did before or have a complete mental collapse. Before you say anything, yes, it’s been almost five years. I’ve battled my demons, yes, I’ve come to terms I couldn’t resurrect everyone. I’ve been out of therapy for two years and no, I haven’t had nightmares. But I’ve had visions with a Lycan in it and I don’t like what I have seen. Yes, some of what happened in the realm still haunts me every now and then, but nothing like before. Dad was the last of any Lycan blood to ever enter the realm, even then it had been more than one thousand years since. We all know why Allister is the cause of the Tree of Origin being destroyed. What did he become after that?! A Lycan, roaming and raging through the entire world creating monsters in his wake until he was put down! It’s a miracle that Lycan’s were even able to shift back to human form and stopped being monsters. Why should I or my legion help them?”

“Elaina, as the next sovereign ruler, you have to put your personal feelings aside for the greater good. You aren’t just the commander of your team, but all supernatural soldiers worldwide and in the other dimensions. We can’t judge all by the acts of one.”

“ I get it, but can I just look in versus actually being there, please!”

“Okay, Elaina, we will do our best to smooth things over, however, it has to be rectified on your holiday break after finals. Your club, outreach center or any of your side ventures cannot be used as an excuse when the time comes. Maybe giving Dr. Spencer a call to do some check ins wouldn’t hurt. Remember with her you can completely let it out in ways you just don’t feel comfortable to do with us.”

This woman was trying to bust my balls but got to love her for trying. “I promise, I’ll commit to winter break. Any other torture, I mean requests before I leave?” My mother cocks an eyebrow, “Such a cheeky girl you’ve become, but no.” Winking as she left. I orb out of the castle, meeting Bryant in the command center. Everything I needed to ruin Ashton’s plans was already taken care of. All his allies turned their allegiances with some minor persuasion. Any coup on his part would not be going down. I might not be able to stop him from being Alpha at the moment, certainly can stop him from hurting anyone or forcing me to choose him as a mate. I still shiver at my last run in with him last semester. Fate would have it I was one humanities class short, that just went under the radar and of course his manic ass was taking abnormal psychology.
