Chapter 201
Blair POV
I couldn't believe what I was hearing as the man stared at all of us accusingly as we digested his words. "You lie," I said in disbelief, as he sneered at me, my body moving forward, ignoring Braedon's hiss to stay back, wanting to get closer to this man, who dared to stare at me with such open hostility.
I was disgusted that he would be so vile as to name my mother as his lover. It had to be impossible, but even as I wanted to dispute it, a small voice in my head told me that anything was possible and that Luna Bianca would use any means at her disposal in order to get what she wanted. Even use this man in front of me, if it came down to it. I felt revulsion as I fixed my eyes on him.
"Oh it's not a lie," he said with amusement,, tilting his head as his eyes twinkled and then narrowed regarding me coldly "Luna Bianca loved me. She hated her pathetic mate, she would go on and on about how he was so useless, so weak-minded, how he refused to kill his daughter no matter how much she tried to convince him. She despised Johnathon" he mocked "because he would not extinguish your life. She rued the day she became his chosen mate and married him."
I fought back the urge to flinch, not wanting to show any sign of weakness. His eyes gleamed as he gave me a malicious smile, "You think I don't know who you are Blair?" he asked with deliberate emphasis, raking his gaze over me wide-eyed, slowly looking me up and down. "She described you perfectly, but I do have to say that you are more beautiful in real life. Not as beautiful as your mother though, she was a goddess" he added callously "while you are merely average and rather plain in comparison. Then again, not everyone can get their mother's looks can they?"
"I have no desire to compete with a b***h like her" I breathed, as his face contorted into an expression of anger "Luna Bianca was nothing more than a power-hungry, selfish, and vain woman who met her demise due to her own actions. That b***h deserved what she got and I'm glad she's dead" I added, wanting to anger the man and provoke him. He saw right through me.
He grinned at me, unimpressed "It must be so hurtful to know how much your mother adored your sister Brynn and preferred her over you" he said nonchalantly, trying to cut me with his words "Brynn was a perfect replica of her mother, right down to her hair color and eyes. You look like your father, more's the shame"
"My sister is just as selfish and vain as my mother was" I snapped as Braedon put out a hand to prevent me from grabbing at the man through the bars in my anger "And she too will meet her end, even if it's by my own hand."
David gave us a crooked grin as I snarled at him "You still haven't found her yet though have you?" he taunted "Your sister is gone in the wind and I hope she stays far out of your grasp. How is your father doing by the way? I would love to see the look on his face when you tell him that his ex-mate was my lover" he chuckled, shaking his head, looking as though he was thoroughly enjoying himself.
I wanted to throttle him. I wanted to end him, badly. I was over this discussion. David was not going to give up any important information. I could sense it. Even if we tortured the bastard, he would refuse. He was loyal to my mother, loyal to her memory. He was delusional if he thought that Luna Bianca would have shown the same loyalty towards him. She would have given the poor bastard up within a heartbeat if it served her. Braedon put a hand on my shoulder "Steady Blair, you need to keep calm" he said softly as I stiffened and gave him a sidelong glance. "Yes, wouldn't want to harm your poor pup" drawled David, admonishing me "What kind of mother are you, putting yourself in harm's way and putting stress on your baby?" he added shaking his head in admonishment.
I growled while Braedon glared at David. "I've heard enough," he said tightly "Your attempt to kill me was solely out of revenge" he added, looking disgusted with the man in the cell "for a life that was not worth avenging."
David let out a roar at that "Not worth avenging? Not worth avenging?" he began to laugh bitterly "That woman was everything to me, exactly like darling Blair is to you" he said, eyeing me with contempt "If your precious Blair was to be killed, what would you do Alpha King?" he asked "Would you hunt down the man responsible and kill them, without the benefit of a trial King Braedon or would you do the honorable thing and put them on display for the pretense of letting the council decide their fate."
"That is a different circumstance" Braedon snarled "and is none of your business."
"Isn't it? You held my lover down and tore out her heart while it still beat in her chest" he hissed "You held it in your hands and then you flung it away as though it was nothing but a piece of garbage. You killed her and then you walked away, like it was just like any other day, while my heart broke into a million other pieces."
Braedon's eyes were hooded. "You speak as though you were there."
David's eyes were dark and narrowed "Wasn't I? I stood in the back, looking as the woman I adored most in this world was dragged kicking and screaming to be butchered in front of most of her pack. Not a single person lifted a hand to help her. The only thing that prevented me from running forward was the knowledge that I could not even begin to overtake the number of men that you had with you in order to save her. I watched the light drain from her very eyes."
"You condoned her actions for trafficking women," I said frostily, tired of his bullshit ranting "You helped her traffic innocent omegas and rogues to Alphas and men who would use them to breed. You disobeyed the law and you're angry? Get over yourself" I breathed, watching as he looked at me, surprised.
"The breeding program has been in use for hundreds of years. It takes an arrogant man to abolish something that has been around for centuries. Women are made to breed. Do you not carry the future heir of the Alpha King?" he asked amused.
"Women are not chattel," I said with gritted teeth, ignoring his statement "and they are not baby-making machines." "Men have always been the superior species," he said, his lip curling back "They are stronger, dominant, and protect the women. It is only natural. In return, the women give us children, clean, and cook. It is the natural order of things."
