Chapter 61
Samuel leaned back in the sofa and threw his arm over the back of the chair. This just got more and more complicated by the second. He wanted to say Zion couldn't catch a break but then again when has life ever been easy.
He watched as he finished doing the last button. There was also something he'd been meaning to discuss with him. It was very vital for tonight and for their survival.
"What is it Sammy?" Zion didn't have to look up at him. Samuel knew they were brothers and they knew each other practically their whole lives but it still amazed him at how easy it was for them to read each other. "We're going to your mates' mating ball" Samuel threaded carefully.
"Mhm"
"Where she will be sought after by other powerful males in the beast kingdom to be mated with."
Zion's expression alone made him wonder if tonight was a great idea. He played a tune with his fingers on the back of the chair before leaning forward. It is naturally a wolf's instinct to be protective of one's mate and even worse when you have created a bond. "Zion this is going to require a very strong will. Maybe even more than a strong will. Men will be all over her, watching her, flirting-"
He received a low growl as warning and stopped.
"She will be what if not all the men in the room will be after, trying to secure; the very center of attention. What I'm saying is they will be trying to get her attention and things might happen that you might not be prepared for. Just for this one night you have to use more strength than you've ever used. I'm not saying you should let them claim your mate, but as of now I just want to make sure she listens to you and then reconcile. If it goes sour she could reject you at this ball in front of everybody. Maybe that's why the king invited you so-"
"Do you take me for a fool? Of course I know what I'm walking into."
"I'm just saying." Samuel defended. Zion was very possessive and being alpha didn't help. He couldn't even walk too close to her without getting grilled.
"I don't know what happened to her the other day and I know I can't do anything too rash or she'll get hurt in the process. Also, she's not going to reject me. Can't you be a bottle of fucking sunshine for once?" he gutted out.
"I'm sorry"
"You never used to talk that much and now I can't get a fucking break. If you have no fucking faith in this then why did you come?" he growled and his heavy alpha vibration came out. "Because so far all I've gotten from you is how this wont fucking work. How about all the ways it can work? Can your brain come up with that or will that be too fucking hard for you?!"
"You know it's not like that."
"Not like what? Because you've been acting like I'm a kid who needs safety gear! Now you either come and be quiet or shut the hell up. I don't need a fucking therapy session every six hours!"
Samuel didn't say anything anymore and he tried not to take it personal. He understood where he was coming from and knew it must be hard.
"Fucking Christ", Zion cursed and backed up.
Zion knew he had forgotten something. He went into his room and opened the desk drawer to retrieve the photo. All of his anger dissipated when his eyes landed on her. He ran a hand over his hair and breathed in deeply. He didn't know how many countless hours he'd stared at the photo. He traced his fingers over her.
"Come back to me" he whispered brokenly.
He tucked the photograph away and headed out. Samuel was waiting for him and they headed down to get in the car. The ride was silent and Zion was grateful. He could think about her uninterrupted. He was intrigued to see what the Lycans were like in their natural habitat.
They drove along the busy streets until they were in what would be deemed the country side, passing rich, luxurious homes and then eventually they were almost there. He'd heard rumours and descriptions of the palace but he'd never seen it.
He wondered what she was doing now. She was more than likely ready already. The weather was good today with clear skies and the familiar chill in the air. He knew the moment he was in Lycan territory. The houses were beyond luxurious on large well tended estates behind secured gates. Extreme wealth was evident, they looked like what you saw in luxury home ads with ample land space spanning in between. Though they in no way compared to what they were about to come upon. They continued to drive for a good while until it came into view.
The Lycan Palace, it was a palace indeed, it was more than impressive. The grand imposing structure stood proudly before them covering massive ground space that seemed to never end. It was surreal. The regal building's architecture was impeccable. "Whoa" mouthed Samuel as they slowly drove for the gate that was miles ahead. Zion silently agreed, it was spectacular. Lycan guards spanned every inch of the perimeter as they drove past. The gates and fencing were unnaturally high for what it was to guard against. The lawns and spaces were extravagantly decorated for the event and he could see a small crowd of people up walking up the steps to enter while being escorted. He could feel the unbearable pressure from his wolf for its mate. It sensed it's mate close by. It had been suffering for too long.
