The President's Gift is a New Wife

Chapter 17

Hannah slept until the afternoon and was relieved to see there was no one in her bed. When she went

down, she saw Mrs. Wright waiting for her. “Mr. Fullerton gave this credit card to you,” Mrs. Wright

couldn’t bring herself to say what comes next. Hannah understood and smiled. “It’s fine. Just tell me

what he said.” “He said you are no longer an orphan now. You should have gotten rid of that

shabbiness in you.” Hannah accepted the card but ignored those words. She didn’t care about what

Calvin said. The only thing she knew was that she needed money. She paid for the stay in the motel

and retrieved the clothes from Jay before using the card to treat him to a feast. Then, it was time for her

to go to that place. Calvin was busy in his office the whole morning. He was annoyed when he kept

thinking about Hannah, so he called Mrs. Wright. “Did she take the credit card?” “She did.” “Did she say

anything else?” “She said thanks.” “Nothing else?” “No.” “Is she home now?” “She just went out,” Mrs.

Wright asked, “Sir, what’s wrong? You can just give her a call.” “It’s nothing. I’m coming back for dinner

tonight.” Calvin thought about it and realized he didn’t have many chances to eat at home due to his

busy work. “Sure,” Mrs. Wright replied, “What should I cook tonight?” “Just make her favorite dishes.”

After a while, Mrs. Wright finally realized that Calvin was talking about Hannah. Meanwhile, Hannah

realized someone paid for her stay when she returned to the motel. She also realized the new clothes

in her room had vanished. The motel owner told her it was the man who paid for her who took them.

“The man was tall and thin. He was the same size as the person who took you away that day. He even

paid a few hundred dollars extra. What a generous man.” The owner said. “Did that man have a buzz

cut and speak like a robot?” The owner nodded, “Yes. Another person was here with him. What was his

name? Steward?” It was Ciel, Calvin’s secretary. Hannah knew the clothes Jay gave her were probably

in the trash right now. “Calm down.” Hannah took a few deep breaths. She knew she should get used

to how overbearing Calvin was. Isn’t it nice to have free money? It’s not bad. Hannah comforted herself

as she walked towards the school entrance. She waved her hands excitedly when she noticed

someone. “Jay!” Jay ran over to Hannah after he heard her calling him. “Why are you here? Aren’t you

working?” He said while looking at his watch. He knew how much Hannah cherished this job. She

wasn’t someone who would skip work for no reason. So, he asked, “Did something happen?” Hannah

nodded. “Yes, I have been fired.” Jay was shocked. “What?” Hannah had a blank stare as she said,

“Let’s not talk about this. I’m going to treat you tonight.” Hannah was always excited about her job so

she wouldn’t have slacked on her job. So, Jay figured something out as he asked, “Was it Calvin?”

Hannah nodded and replied, “Yes.” “Why?” Didn’t he marry her because he loved her? Why did he take away the job she loved? Jay started to wonder if Calvin could treat Hannah nicely. He was worried yet

he was also expecting something to happen. Hannah shrugged her shoulders and said, “Does Calvin

need a reason to do anything?” Jay asked her seriously after patting her head, “Hannah, do you want

to leave?” “Where to?” Jay noticed Hannah was in a panic. He realized it wasn’t time to ask her yet, so

he shook his head and replied, “I was just joking.” Hannah thought Jay noticed her intention to leave.

She patted herself on the chest to calm herself down. “You scared me.” She decided not to get Jay

involved in anything she was going to do from now on. Calvin was very domineering. He wouldn’t allow

Hannah to disappear suddenly again. He wanted to control everything. Calvin controlled the whole

city’s economy. If Jay offended him and became Calvin’s enemy because of Hannah, the Miller family

would also be affected. He would probably blame himself even though it didn’t look like he cared much

about his family on the surface. Hannah didn’t want to put Jay in that situation. Jay suddenly asked,

“Are you afraid of Calvin?” “No way.” Hannah’s reply seemed unnatural. She continued, “Let’s not talk

about this. Let’s go and eat. I haven’t thanked you for the new clothes you bought me.” “Didn’t you

thank me last time?” Jay was not happy with how polite Hannah treated her. “Besides, do you have

money to treat me? All my meals are expensive.” Hannah took out a black credit card and said, “I have

money now! Don’t be afraid! Just follow me and you can eat anything you want!” “Don’t all your things

come from the Fullerton residence?” Jay asked, “Did Calvin give that to you?” He just realized the

clothes she was wearing weren’t the same as yesterday. They weren’t the ones he bought her, yet they

were all high-quality clothes. “Did you meet Calvin after you met me yesterday?” “Yes.” Hannah

answered. “He took me to his mansion. Aunt Miranda wouldn’t let me return.” He felt unhappy hearing

that because he realized Hannah and Calvin had indeed become a married couple regardless of their

love for each other. Jay replied with a snarky response, “Spending his money to thank me for buying

you clothes? Am I a stranger to you?” Hannah was stunned because she knew what he meant. “That’s

not it…” She said after a long pause. Hannah smiled awkwardly. “He is my foster brother after all.

Spending his money is like spending my allowance.” “Both of you are a married couple now.” Jay was

still speaking gently yet his true intentions were unknown.
