Gerald lashed out. "But if you don't talk, the king will have you all executed and the charge will be on your head. Your families will lose their lands," Gerald threatened.

"I'm not sure what to say, Your Majesty, but I must be on my way now. I have important matters to attend to," Eva replied softly, avoiding eye contact.

"I can sense that something is troubling you. Please, speak to me," King Afa urged, his concern evident in his voice.

He could not understand why all of a sudden Eva pushed him away. His thoughts were going round and round that he became lost in his thoughts staring at Eva. "Please talk to me," he persuaded further in a soothing voice. She retorted, "I wouldn't want to lose my life for nothing."

"What are you talking about?" With his gaze fixated on her, King Afa questioned. "I will be dishonored if you hide your thoughts from me," he said as he leaned in to gently grasp her hand.

"You have been with Kay for a very long time, so I don't want to get in the way of that," Eva retorted.

"Is this truly just about Kay and nothing else?" the curious king said.

"Obviously, my king," she murmured.

"Will you let what I feel for you take over and forget about her?" stated King Afa.

"But lord king..."

Eva was just about to share her thoughts with the king when he suddenly cut in, sounding a bit firm. He explained that there was no need for any ifs, ands, or buts, and that it was just the two of them in this situation. "I will pretend you haven't falsely accused the king since I admire your husband. Your spouse hasn't been assigned to any other assignment by me," said the king. He tried to restrain himself from lashing out in anger to the accusation. "I'll dispatch a search party to find your husband."
