The Palace Beast

Chapter 120 - Betrayers

John accompanied Lady Bonnie to her chamber. She is to stay in her parents' chamber since she will be made the new King of Maxis. As they walked into the chamber, John locked the door from the inside.

Bonnie cast a searing gaze at him. "Tell me you didn't mean what you said to Lord Ramsey?"

"Of course not, I was kidding but if anyone, including him, tries to give you a hard time, they will have me to contend with."

"Don't worry my love, I'm safe here."

"I doubt because there's no place safe Strange Land."

"I know you care for me but please don't pick up a fight with anyone lest they will discover your powers and definitely discover my new identity." ...The Knight's Quarters...

Lord Ramsey isn't happy with the way John has spoken to him. Even though John was just acting up and shouldn't be taken seriously, Lord Ramsey has taken it personal. It's indeed true that John as the adviser of Lady Bonnie is now the Lord of Lord Ramsey. This is the Bonnie, Lord Ramsey didn't want to hear. He can't watch a stranger come into Maxis and Lord over it.

He slammed the door of his quarters open and when he had walked in, he slammed shut it. He unsheathed his sword and tossed it on his bed.

He started pacing up and down with many thoughts going through his mind. First, he started wondering how John left Maxis without anyone seeing him. And now he's back with Lady Bonnie without getting wet even under such heavy rain. "What power do these two possess that I don't know of?"

After a while, he picked up his sword and sheathed it.

"It's time to pay someone a visit."

...The Courtier's Chamber...

As the courtier was taking his bath when he heard footsteps approaching. He quickly turned off the shower. "Who is there?" he asked.

"Is anyone there?"

"Make known your presence or I will have your head!"

He didn't hear any response. He quickly wrapped himself with his robe and makes his way out. Standing by the bedside, he started looking around but there was no sign of anyone.

The door of his chamber is wide open. "I thought I lock this door?" he said to himself as he started making his way to the door.

As he was about to close the door, King Absalom grabbed him from behind and held a dagger to his throat. He just got the news of the arrival of Lady Bonnie and this has changed everything for him. His plans are to be ruined by just the arrival of Lady Bonnie.

"I told you a slew a thousand in the mountain of Belioth and you are next."

"You know threatening me is treason before the eyes of the king?"

"What about killing you?"

"It's still a treason that King Edward II will never pardon."

"But the king isn't here to save you before I slit your throat."

"What do you want?"

"You must declare me the new King."

"And if I don't?"

"I will kill you in your sleep."

"Lady Gilbert is the rightful heir of this fortified city and according to our custom she has come to claim it and nothing can be done about it. Not even the king can utter her rights to claim this fortified city."

"How about for the sake of your life? I will spare you now if you swear to announce me as the new King."

"I will do that, but I want something else in return."

"Speak!"

"Half of the tax you will be making from Maxis will be mine."

"Now you are speaking my language."

King Absalom releases the king's courtier from his grip. They both chuckle and shook hands to seal their deal.

"Get ready, tonight will be your night as the new King of Maxis and as my business partner."

...At the Dungeon...

On the order of Lord Ramsey, every vervain attached to Gallo's veins was removed. Gallo has been weakened with vervain flowing through his veins. Gallo was lying on the floor feeling feverish. He was still in chains that have been socked in vervain. The only vervain removed from him was the ones attached to run through his veins.

Gallo looked up and saw Lord Ramsey seated in front of him. "She is back to kill me." His words can barely be heard by Lord Ramsey as he spoke in a low tone. He was weak that he couldn't stand to his feet.

"I can't hear you but perhaps this would help." Lord Ramsey tossed him a flask.

Gallo didn't know the content in the flask but that didn't stop him from picking up the flask. He quickly opened the wooden stopper. He was able to perceive something he's familiar with, 'blood.' He glanced at Lord Ramsey and then quickly emptied the blood into his mouth.

His eyes glowed red. Blood is the only thing that can help a weak vampire regain his strength but in this case, Gallo still has chains on him that have been socked in vervain. He has regained his strength but he can't get the chains off his wrist and ankle.

"From the look on your face, your kindness comes with a price."

Gallo is certain that Lord Ramsey didn't just revive his strength without a price. He knew he has not come for retribution but he came for something else but he couldn't make any sense of what it might be.

Lord Ramsey from where he was seated fixes his eyes on Gallo and then opens his mouth to speak. "My late King wouldn't show you this kindness. But I did."

The late King was already planning on how to kill Gallo before Gallo killed him. There's no way she will ever feed a vampire. Even his sister was detested by him and he doesn't want to have anything to do with her. "Can you stop going around the bush and tell me what is it that you want from me?"

"I want answers, and you will give it to me."

"And if I refuse?"

"Vervain will continue to run through your veins and this time around no blood will be given to you to revive your strength."
