Chapter 50
Cassie
There was darkness, but there was a soft glow emanating from some unforeseen place.
There was a cool, white mist, there were white marble steps and white columns at each opposite end of the steps.
Cassie instinctively knelt and bowed her head. In doing so, she noticed she wore a white toga that draped across one shoulder. Moonstone-adorned silver armlets rested on her upper arms. She felt pressure on her scalp letting her know her long hair was pulled back in a tight braid.
As much as she wanted to stand, she knew she could not. She felt the pull of something glorious keeping her in this position.
"You have come home child," she heard a voice fill the open space. The moment she heard it, Cassie felt overwhelmed with emotion. "You need not cry, for you are also my child. Your unique life is the one I tasked the Moirai to give you." Although Cassie's head remained bowed, her eyes widened. It felt like a dream; like the most beautiful dream she had ever had.
It surely had to be a dream.
"You are not dreaming my child, but you have been fragmented and you do not deserve this, which is why Magdalena was allowed to bring you forth. We considered your human sensibilities before we allowed your wolf, Evangeline, to act against Elsbeth. When you blacked out, we pulled you from the wolf's body and set your soul to sleep beside us.
“Elsbeth, too, was a child of the Moon. I could not give up on her, alas, blood has washed blood and Elsbeth's wickedness has been forgiven. Please forgive Evangeline. This was not a human's sin, but a wolf's justice, child. Evangeline did my bidding for the sake of Elsbeth's act of contrition. Going forth, you will be blessed. You and your mate's trials and tribulations are behind you now until your final life threads have been cut." Cassie felt a force of love surround her before falling into an illuminated abyss.
