The Million Dollar Man

Chapter 47

<< Shut up! >> Sebastian roared, slamming his hands onto his desk. The muscle in his jaw jumped, and from the way his entire body shook, the amount of rage built up within him was on the verge of overflowing.

<< I have done everything right. >> Sebastian said quietly, << Our drug rings are impenetrable, I run the strongest and most powerful gang London has ever seen, and my gang is made up of only the best. >> There was a moment of silence, and then it happened.

Sebastian lost it.

All the contents on top of his desk were shoved onto the ground as a flurry of profanities spilled from his lips.

<< How dare he ! » Sebastian seethed, punching the wall. He withdrew his bloody fist without wincing or even giving it a second glance. << I will destroy this son of a fucking bitch, who dares thinks that he can overthrow me ! >> His eyes were blazing, << Me! >>

I watched as Mason hesitantly took a step forward, his hands held up in surrender.

<< Patrick was nothing but a manipulative piece of shit. >> Mason said slowly, << You can't just assume that he's telling the truth! For all we know he was just trying to screw you over before he died. >>

Even I could see that through Mason's attempt to calm down Sebastian. It was pitiful really, how Sebastian was reacting to this.

So, me being the impulsive idiot, I told him that.

« For the love of God, Sebastian calm down. >> I said, stepping forwards. I was well aware that all eyes were on me, but I couldn't care less. I was much too determined to get my point across before Sebastian could cut me off with another rant. << You have done everything right. >> I said, << You are the leader to the most dangerous gang. You know, I know it, we all know it. You need to stop bitching and whining about what some low life asshole said and you know what, even if it is true, who cares? You're Sebastian King, you can have them in ruins with a flick of your wrist ! >>

I took a deep breath and continued. << I know we didn't get off to a great start, but through the last couple of weeks, I've been able to see how Kings works. This gang is invincible, and you know what? If it's a war they want, then it's a war they'll get. »

Sebastian's eyes were piercing my own.

Then came round two of the deafening silence.

He took slow, deliberate steps around the desk and in front of me.

<< How valiant of you. >> His voice was cutting, but his eyes held many more emotions than just anger.

<< Mason, » he snapped, his eyes now directed to him. << I want to do as much research possible. Look for anything unusual, new drug cartels, any murders or acts of violence, anything. >>

Mason left the room without another word, leaving Callum, Sebastian, and me.

<< Callum, » Sebastian spoke, << talk to our insiders. I want all eyes and ears on this 'new' gang. You got that? >>

<< Whatever you want. >> Callum quickly exited the room.

I stared up at Sebastian, my breath catching in my throat. His dark eyes still on me as he leaned in, casually draping his hands against my waist.

<< This is the second time that someone has used you as a weakness against me. >> He stated, his eyes drifting over my face. << Patrick basically implied last night that you were a weakness for me, and let's not forget the gang that thought they could threaten me- with you. >>

Annoyance built up within me and I narrowed my eyes. << What are you implying? >>

Sebastian smirked, << That if you weren't such a good baiter, I'd have to get rid of you. >>

I rolled my eyes at him and tried to push his hands off, but that only lead to his grip becoming more severe. I felt a slight twinge of fear spark within me when I saw his eyes darken. «You just loved having Patrick all over you,» he said slowly, his jaw clenching as a show of his anger towards the subject.

My eyes widened at his words, << Sebastian, wh-what are you talking about? >>

He pulled away, scoffing as he did so. << You were so eager to be felt up and touched like some kind of toy. >>

My hands formed fists at his words, and I felt the anger bubble inside of me. Sebastian wasn't even making any sense right now and it made me furious that he would imply such things.

I bit back my tongue and forced a sickeningly sweet smile onto my face. << What? A girl has needs, and Patrick was more than happy to help out with that. >>

My back was roughly shoved against the wall for the second time that day. I let out a painful hiss as the scrapes were re-opened and a sting flooded over me. Sebastian's expression was deadly and the dark look in his eyes made me want to run away.

His eyes held so much- he was controlling, murderous, lethal, and possessive all at once.

« G-Get off of me. » I whispered, my eyes hardening into an equally as cold glare. Sebastian only smirked, though his expression remained emotionless.

<< Listen, Evie, »> he whispered, his warm breath fanning over my face, << I don't appreciate your attitude so how about you fix it before I lose my shit with you. What do you think about that? >>

Sebastian gave me a hard push towards the doorway, and I nearly fell from the force held behind it.

I knew I could have gone upstairs at that moment, with my tail in between my legs like a wounded animal; white flag raised in surrender, or I could let my stubborn, bitchy self show through.

<< Shame you killed him, really. He was quite the kisser. >> And with a final smirk and sinister wink, and I turned and left his office.

The hot water scorched my skin as it came down, but I didn't mind the pain. In fact, I find that times I take comfort in physical pain.

It's a reminder that I'm alive- that I'm not some cold, lifeless shell of a broken girl who was hallowed out by death, and the cruelty of others. Danny called yesterday.

In my defense, he should have expected my reaction, after not calling for months.

<< Hello? Evie ? Evs is that you? »

My breath caught in my throat and tears immediately began to sting the corners of my eyes. I took a few calming breaths before I found my voice.

<< What do you know, it's the return of the prodigal brother. >> My tone was harsh and mean, which was ironic due to how overjoyed I was to hear his voice.

<< Evie... please don't be like that. >>

I scoffed, rolling my eyes as tears streamed down my face. << Oh I'm sorry, was my greeting not as pleasant and love filled as you had expected? Should I hang up, wait a couple months until you call again, and then try again? >> There was a pause, and I held my breath as a sob nearly broke loose. I didn't understand why I was being so awful- why I've ever been so awful to Danny.
