Chapter 4
Ares Lýkos POV
The paperwork just keeps piling up. I’m trying to keep up with all my pack’s businesses and legal stuff. All of it just make my head spin. I’m trying to sort the newest stack of papers when my identical brother and forced Beta Apollo Lýkos walked in with my best friend and Delta Cole Láspi. The tree of us grew up together, but Cole and I were more like brothers than me and Apollo. Apollo is your typical jealous troublemaker and has never liked my title of my Alpha title as he is second born. We look exactly the same, the only difference is that he is a bit shorter than me, and his eyes is dark blue, and he is the biggest jerk I know... Cole is 1.76m and has black hair, brown eyes and a goofy smile and he has already found his mate. I don’t even know if mine exist…
“Alpha” Cole said while I looked up from my papers, giving Cole a nod as permission to speak. “The warriors have picked up a rogue scent at the western border,” Cole said. “These scents are being picked up more and more” Apollo continued, “I think they are planning to attack soon” I sat back in my chair rubbing my temples... “This is the third time this month that the rogues roamed our borderlines. Did the warriors picked up how many we are dealing with?” I asked them “So far we can only pick up scents of two, maybe three rogues.” Cole answered. “You know brother,” Apollo snickered, “Our father will not be pleased if they enter the pack borders, it’s a definite sign of weakness off a big strong Alpha that you are.” He said taunting me even more, his presence is hard enough. He could be overbearing and arrogant at times like this. He doesn’t know his place and it makes my wolf annoyed and uneasy.
I mind linked Cole “Cole, put more warriors on the borders and make sure no rogues get past the border. Kill on site!” I instructed Cole “Yes Alpha” Cole nodded and walked out of my office.
“Apollo... I do not appreciate your disrespectful attitude towards me! I am your Alpha and if you disrespect me or challenge in any way me again, I will kick you out of the pack, and I don’t care what mother says!” I yelled angrily at Apollo. He thinks because he is my twin brother, I will not act against him, but our mother, on the other hand, will not appreciate me killing or kicking out her favourite son.
“Oh, I’m sorry Alpha Ares if I offended you...” Apollo laughed mockingly. “That it!!” I growled loudly. My wolf started to take over, not liking the lack of respect and mockery coming from my brother.
At that moment my father walked into my office “What is going on!“. Apollo shrugged, holdings his hands up “Not much, father, Ares just want to kick me out again” Apollo said laughing. My father turned to him, his eyes were filled with annoyance “Apollo get out, I will deal with you later!” Apollo bowed his head slightly at my father and left my office.
“Ares, you two need to sort out your differences. This bickering between the two off you will be the downfall of this pack if you two can’t work together” my father warned. I was shaking with anger and felt like I was going to lose control of my wolf. My father thankfully saw it and moved closer slowly “Ares, son. You need to breathe. Go outside, take a run and blow off some steam.” he advised calmly.
I ran outside, pulling off my clothes, letting my wolf take over. With my bones changing I turned into my huge charcoal coloured wolf, Xylán. Being a werewolf is like sharing your body with another person, except that person is a wolf and you can also communicate with your wolf inside your head. Weird I know; but I wouldn’t change a thing… my brother on the other hand, I’ll change him in a heartbeat. “Yes” Xylán agreed with a growl.
Shaking out my fur me and my wolf took off into the forest. Trees passing me in a blur. Feeling all the anger and the frustration leaving my body. I ran for what felt like forever, leaving the pack border far behind me. I reached a small creek, drinking some water and relaxing a bit. I suddenly smelled something so amazing, my wolf was acting bit nervous. It smelled like springtime. Sweet and floral. And then the smell suddenly disappeared.
My wolf was anxious when I headed back to the pack house like he didn’t want to leave the creak, but I had Alpha duties to attend to. The afternoon went by uneventful, Apollo thankfully stayed away from me. Father must have spoken to him.
That night my wolf entreated me to go back to the creak. I shifted into my wolf and tried to pick up the scent I smelled earlier. I picked up the faint scent away from the creak towards a human camping site. “We need to go back. This is the human territory.” I urged my wolf “I know, but I need to know where that smell is coming from?” Xylán moaned. “I know, I also need to know, we will return tomorrow in human form and check it out.” Xylán gave out a disappointed howl and sprinted back towards the pack house. He’s going to be pouting for the next few hours, Xylán can be a bit over dramatic. He snarled at me when he heard my thoughts.

The next afternoon I was again busy finishing up with the last stack of paperwork in my office when Cole, my Delta, suddenly barge into my office “Alpha! Rogues!“. I dropped everything and the both us ran outside; I was mind linking the pack warriors to meet up with us in wolf form. I jumped from the porch changing mid-air into my wolf. My wolf and I were excited, killing and hunting rogues were fun.
My Delta, Cole was running next to me in his brown wolf form. Soon all the pack warriors were running behind us.
The pack was getting close to the rogues, I could smell their foul stench. There were at least three rogues. When we got closer, I could also smell something different. I could smell the sweet floral scent again... Then it hit me, the rogues are hunting that scent. I pushed my wolf even harder. The trees around me were clearing and I came to a standstill when I heard the loud growling of the rogues.
I moved closer to the tree line and saw three rogues surrounding a beautiful girl. Anger rose inside me, and I gave out a loud and angry howl, mind linking all the warriors “FOUND THE ROGUES AT THE CLIFF!!”. I moved out of the treeline, making myself known to the rogues. A few seconds later my pack was behind me.
I started running towards the rogues, I could smell the fear in them. They knew they will be dead soon. The one big rogue was standing its ground close to the beautiful girl, challenging me. Unfortunate for him, he will lose. My wolf is stronger and bigger than his and an I am an Alpha.
I ran and jumped on to the rogue, biting hard onto his neck. He tried to shake me off and was snapping at me, but he failed. I moved my head quickly and ripped his throat out. The rogue fell dead to the ground, blood oozing out of his open throat. My pack quickly took care of the remaining two rogues, killing them by ripping their throats out.
I turned to the beautiful girl standing at the edge of the cliff. I could sense and smell that she was terrified. The beautiful girls’ skin was like porcelain. Even with her cheeks stained with tears, she was breathtakingly beautiful. Her eyes were as green as the forest, it was like looking into two green emeralds. Her long brown hair with caramel ends was pulled into a messy ponytail. She was slender build and short. Her scent suddenly hit my nose, she smelled like the scent I smelled yesterday in the forest. She smelled like springtime. Sweet and floral.
I stood frozen, staring at this amazingly beautiful girl. Then my wolf shouted into my head “MATE!”. “She’s my mate! I found my mate! But she is a human, how is this possible. Werewolves cannot mate with humans...” ”Who cares! She is our MATE!” Xylán shouted again.
My Delta Cole stood next to me, trying to mind link me, but I was too shocked and was blocking him out. Cole started to approach my mate, growling at her, when my wolf suddenly snarled at him. ”Don’t touch her! She’s MINE!" my wolf yelled at him through the mind link. Cole suddenly whined and his wolf was lying on the ground revealing his neck while bowing his head in respect.
I moved towards my mate and realized that it would probably be better if I was in my human form, rather than wolf form. I started to change into my human form.
I smiled at her and slowly approached her. “Mate! Are you okay?” I asked her sweetly. I could see she didn’t understand me. Her eyes closed, and she fainted. I moved quickly catching her in my arm before she hit the ground.
I picked her up gently. I had to fight off my wolf off as Xylán wanted to mark her right then and there. But I knew it will be wrong. Cole shifted into his human form “Alpha? Is she your true mate?” he asked concerned “Yes, she is MY mate” I answered him, my eyes not leaving my mates beautiful face. “Congratulations Ares! May the Luna bless you with many pups” Cole said smiling from ear to ear.
“Thank you! Let’s gather up, I will take my mate back to the pack house. Some of you stay behind and dispose of the dead rogues.” I ordered. The warriors nodded their heads and shifted into their human forms and started to clean up the dead rogues.
I started to move back to the pack house, carrying my beautiful mate in my arms. I can only thank the Luna that we found her in time. I don’t even want to think about could have happened if we didn’t show up in time. I would have lost it completely if they have touched her.
