The Last White Wolf

Chapter 14

Apollo POV

Trees are passing by me in a blur, I’m pushing my wolf to its limit. Time is the one thing I don’t have available to waste. I need to stop this from happening... And the only way Ares will believe me is if I do this. Nerves were settling in my stomach the closer I got... I was promised a beheading if I ever return to his house.

With a loud snarl, I was tackled from my right side, air leaving my lungs from the impact, while dirt and leaves drifted around us. The black wolf quickly got up, moving in for the kill. The only thing I can do is bow my head to show him respect and that I came here in peace. I can’t mind link him... we don’t share the family bond. It pained me to do this, but I have to make myself completely vulnerable to him. Shifting into my human form, I stayed on my knees, still bowing my head.

“I did not come here to harm you... or your mother... All I need your help. We are all in danger!” I expressed calmly almost begging him to listen to me. The wolf growl angrily at me, ready to jump at me and rip my heart out at any second. “Apollo? What are you doing here?” I heard Rhea asking, concern lacing her voice. “I need your help... she is going to kill us all if we don’t stop her...” I almost cried out while I lifted my head slowly looking at Rhea standing shielded behind Achilles.

“Who is going to kill us?” Rhea asked frightened. “My mother...” I answered truthfully.

With a bone snapping sounds Achilles sifted into his human form. “How do we know that this isn’t another trap set by you and your mother... How can we trust you? After the two of you have threatened us endlessly...” Achilles shouted, balling his fists out of anger on his sides. “I know I have broken my trust in both of you... time and time again... but I am telling you the truth...” I admitted “Then why don’t you go to Ares or Zeus? Why come here?” Achilles fumed. “Because I need YOUR help. And I needed to warn you and make sure that your mother gets as far away from here as soon as possible... If I go to Ares alone... he will not believe me, and I cannot trust our father... she is controlling his mind.”

Rhea gasped “I knew Aphrodite was capable of dangerous things... but are you sure about this Apollo?“. I sat upright, still on my knees in front of them “Yes... I overheard her talking to a woman named Madeline and my grandfather Abaddon... They are planning to kill us all and make Madeline the Alpha of this pack... She has been giving me potions... controlling me...”

Achilles shifted uncomfortably, while Rhea stared at me with disbelieve. “Please, you have to believe me...” I begged... which says a lot because I don’t beg anyone for anything. Rhea stepped forward towards me, Achilles grabbed her wrist, silently pleading with her not to go near me. She gave him a small smile while leaving his shielded side. Rhea kneeled in front of me, placing her small hands on my shoulders. “I will place my trust in you, please don’t break it.”

I followed behind Rhea and Achilles. Every time I moved closer a load snarl escaped from Achilles’ throat. Warning me to keep my distance from them. I waited, leaning against a tree far enough from their cabin, while Rhea packed her belongings. Achilles stood guard by the door, observing me with a darkened stare.

Behind Achilles, Rhea appeared with a small bag. She gave him a tight hug “Please be careful” she urged Achilles. “I will mother, I love you” he promised “I love you too,” she said kissing him on his cheek. I stood there uncomfortably looking at Rhea and Achilles. They shared a bond full of love, only a mother and her son can have... something I have never had... Rhea made her way towards me with a warm smile. “Apollo...” she said her voice almost shaking and I knew she wasn’t sure how to approach me. “Thank you for trusting me, Rhea.” I responded, “I know I haven’t given you any reason to trust me and I am truly sorry for treating you wrong... she led me to believe that you were only trying to steal my father away from us.” I admitted. She pulled me into a warming hug “I have always loved you Apollo, all of you, even if you weren’t my own children, I have loved you. Please be careful and take care of each other.” She said giving me a kiss on my cheek. “I will” I promised her.

Rhea shifted into her brown wolf, taking her small bag into her mouth and with a last glance at both me and Achilles she sprinted off into the forest.

Achilles was still giving me a darkened stare “What is the plan?” Achilles snorted.

The two of us sneaked back into the packhouse. We masked our scents, so the patrol wolves won’t notice us. We quickly made our way into Ares office, closing the door silently behind us, I took a deep breath of relieve, thankful that his office is empty. “I don’t think this plan of yours is going to work” Achilles uttered again... “We have made it this far. Haven’t we?” I snickered... “I now see why no one likes you.” Achilles moaned, “Ahh that’s not true little brother. Some people just can’t resist my amazingly good looks and charming personality and my awesome ability to listing to mind-numbing love songs” I smirked whilst leaning against the desk.

Achilles closed the space between us, clearly unimpressed by me, “Oh Goddess help me! If you think I would place my mother’s life in danger because you just want to joke around... you are definitely an idiot” he growled and just at that moment, the door opened and in walked our father. He froze in place “Achilles? Apollo? What is going on? What are you doing here? If Aphrodite finds you here son... all hell will break loose...” he said quietly whilst closing the door behind him.

Both me and Achilles stood there silently staring at our father, not sure if we can trust him. “I am waiting for an explanation boy’s?” he said sternly. Achilles shifted his weight uncomfortably and I moved in closer to our father. “We have a problem... and we are not sure we can trust you, father,” I explained, well somewhat, I smirked to myself. Our father stared at us blinking a few times “And why you can’t trust me?” “Your mate has been controlling your mind... as well as Apollo’s.” Achilles clarified. Our father gave out a deep sigh whilst taking a seat on one of the nearby chairs.

“I know...” he sighed again “I knew she was controlling me at some point, but I never knew she did the same thing to you Apollo?” he admitted. “You knew?” both I and Achilles said in unison. Our father looks at both of us and nodded. “Is she still controlling you?” I asked grimly “No, not for a while now. I figured it all out. She has been slipping me some sort of potion and I have been pretending to take it.” He explained while running his hands through his hair nervously “Then why haven’t you done anything? Why let her do whatever she wants?” Achilles asked furiously.

Our father sat back in the chair “She has spies everywhere... some of her father’s followers are in our pack... I never knew who to trust and I had to protect my family. They are ruthless... they would sacrifice anyone to get what they want. The tribal packs have been trying for years to take over, bring in witches and dark magic….” He continued “Have you informed Ares?” he asked looking at me. “No, I haven’t. I thought bringing Achilles with me will help with the tension...” I smirked, “He is going to be very pissed when I tell him our mother is planning on assassinating his mate and everyone else.” I pointed out. “She wants to kill Thalia?” father gasped “Yeah,” I said, “Sweet Thalia, Ares, Achilles and Rhea, oh yeah and then me...” I blurted “Rhea?” he whispered, and he almost looked pained by the mention of her name.

“We have to tell Ares?” father stated. “Ask him to meet you now, but don’t tell him I’m here... otherwise, he won’t come...” I pointed out. Father nodded in agreement and his eyes glazed over, mind linking Ares. He is going to be fuming if he sees me here, I noted to myself.

“He is not responding” father reported. “Try again. Try until he answers.” Achilles emphasized.
